I decided to share my Silver run: http://rapidshare.de/files/7452028/pokemonGSC.zip.html Note that the run desyncs if you watch it from the beginning. The only way to fix the desync is to load it from the savestate in the .zip file.
How do I load the savestate so that i can resume watching? When I load state normaly it stops the playback. [edit]: Okey, I found it. You need to turn on the Read-only mode, and load after that.
Which run should I encode next? :)

What, is it the game timer problem again?
I think I said before, but I'm not sure. It may be a number of problems, but I think either the problem is with playing the game beforehand and doing the run with the same ROM in the same folder, or saving when not recording; it may be the latter. Basically, I took my first savefile, dumped it into another folder, and recorded from there. The time proceeded to mess up, referencing the time of the first savefile even when it was gone. For some reason, I had the idea of saving a game when not recording. Although it could have desynced long ago (I never bothered checking from the beginning since I left the lab), the game desynced since and the time now says at the beginning "TIME NOT SET" no matter how many times I saved, even if I deleted the savefile and saved another one. Only when I moved the ROM to another folder did it act like it was fresh off the download.

Maybe there's an extra component to the save file that we haven't found.

There's only 1 save file, which has extension ".sav". FractalFusion, are you sure you are deleting the right one, and did so while the emulator was not open? Also, you did make sure that "Options->Emulator->Real Time Clock" is turned on (and that you're using v15 of the emulator), right? It's possibly a newly-discovered emulator problem, but I thought this had already been tested by a few people with the times being correctly loaded from the movie file.

I've been thinking about this run and i've got a question. Is it possible to manipulate random encounters and captures? If so couldn't the player capture the legendry Dogs as early as possible in order to give themselves a very powerful team...it may save time but will it be entertaining? Also, where is the end point...beating the Elite 4 (plus champion) or beating Red?

Yes, it is possible to manipulate random encounters and captures. And with the experience I have, it happens by frames. About the Legendary Dogs. I also wandered this questin myself some time ago until I remebered that you need to wake them up in Ecruteak City before you can find them in the nature. And for the end point. I have thought about this one too, and I think the end should be at beating Red/Ash. Although it could be ended in Elite 4, but I think it would be better to end in Ash.

This is Super Ghouls and Ghosts all over again. People will not want to watch someone manipulate luck just to beat Red for a very long movie, and thats the reality of it too. :(

Yes the movie would be very long and I'm not too interested in watching it. But how is this like Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts? You don't need to play the whole game twice to get to Red. You don't even need to fight the Elite Four more than once or repeat other parts of the game. -hanzou

Yes but my analogy was that when you beat the elite 4, credits roll. Thats beating the game on the first quest. Then beating Kanto and getting to Red is the second quest. Maybe, atleast its new frontier unlike super ghouls and ghosts.

I would say beating Red would be infinitely more entertaining (and worth watching) than the analogous SGNG situation. As you said, it's a completely new world than what's already been watched. Plus, if nothing else, it could serve as a sort of nostalgia trip for those who stopped playing after RBY. So if my vote counts, I say keep going until you beat Red. But we all know it doesn't :)

My answer to the "End movie at beating Red instead of beating Elite Four" question: Good luck on that one. Sure you'll have plenty enough opportunity to level off of all the Kanto gym trainers, who use level 50-ish Pokemon, but from there you get a massive and sudden jump in power from level 50-ish to level 80-ish. Who knows, you might be fairly close in level by that point in time, but still, that huge gap might be a bit much to overcome smoothly without powerleveling, which will drag the movie down. The fact that you have to go back to the title screen after beating the game once, potentially screwing up the clock rhythm, could also put a dent in things. Also, what looks to be the optimal moveset plan for beating the Elite Four as fast as possible could leave Typhlosion fairly vulnerable to some of the Pokemon the Gym leaders and Red might use. If I were to run G/S/C I'd stop after beating the Elite Four. The rest is really more of a bonus quest as far as I'm concerned, and would consist of little more than mass slaughter of Gym leaders with your overpowered Typhlosion, at least right up until you get to Red.

I'd like to see both. I myself never really got that far in Gold/Silver/Crystal. Well, I beat the Elite 4, but never beat RED myself. My pokémon were always too low of level to be any match for him. Probably because I was always training six of them and got bored training them out in the wild for little experience. Well. I'm going to play Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on my PS2 now. ;3

Here is a test run of Pokemon Silver up to Ecruteak City getting Surf: http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=286710 About the Silver run itself, I believe that the strategies in my run are good, although I don't know much about the game. I wanted to get more out of the Goldenrod Dept. Store than I actually did (I was hoping for Return, but Quilava wasn't happy enough :p ). Any comments on my run would be appreciated. See if you can spot what I did wrong early in the game. It affected my whole run.

Try playing the movie with a SRAM already in the folder where the Silver.gbc ROM is located. It seems that playing the movie without an existing SRAM causes desync. I have an SRAM in the .zip file. If that still doesn't work, run the movie using the savestate in the .zip. I fussed about the desync in the above post, but I think users are ignoring me for it. Either that or people just hate Silver. Edit: I responded to a deleted post.

Hehe, it was my VBA. It was out of date. But I am now interested in another thing. How do you manipulate the game to get a Female starter? :3 I like to make a team of all Females, since I myself am one. Just getting the starter to be one without a Gameshark Code is a real pain in the rear. Clue me in if you can. ^.^ EDIT: I do have some suggestions now. You should Register your Bicycle to the Select button once you get it, it'll save you having to open the menu all of the time. And you can shave off a few seconds in the area where you catch the Pidgey, by just taking the exit on the right side of the field.

Actually this is still a problem with the current version. If it happens (and it's really likely to desync the first time you watch it), just play it again and there's a good chance it will be fine next time. (Reason for the problem as I understand it: There's some code I missed that messes with the clock time if there's no SRAM present, which can affect the randomness or timing of this game.)

I noticed that all starters (this applies in Pokemon R/B as well) have 7/8 chance of being male and 1/8 of being female. I believe the starter's stats are set when you look at them, but I'm not sure. You could try saving before you pick up the starters.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't realize what the SEL option underneath USE was. I tried it and thought it did nothing. I exited National Park the same way I came in because I'd rather fight a trainer with one Pokemon rather than a trainer with four.

Ahh. I see your points there. I too have noticed that every once in a while the Starters turn Female. Guess you just got it to happen, hehe. And I do see the time saving going out the other way. It saves a few more seconds than just metely fighting a trainer with four Pokémon. I think I'll try playing this game again. I haven't played it in a long, long time.

Would it help to change the date or manipulate your id number so you can win the radio contest to get the master ball? This might help catch lugia or a rare dog.

Using luck manipulation one can catch anything anyway. Any poke ball can act as master ball. I might be wrong though.

I had no problems catching the L30 Red Gyarados with a Poke Ball. With luck manipulation, of course. As for the radio contest, it keeps messing up and I have no clue what's going on. "Congratulations, the ID matches with the ID of your Charmeleon in Box No. 2, even though you never touched the boxes at all. This is the third time you won, so you win a super potion!" :? Besides, you get a Master Ball from Prof. Elm, and it's much faster to get. Edit: Oh wait, that's after you beat the Elite 4. Never mind.

Hello, potential Gold runners! Although it isn't up at the main SDA site, I have completed a console run of Pokemon Gold at a total time of 4:15 that you can refer to. By SDA rules, the run ends after Red, explaining why the video takes so long. http://www.archive.org/details/PokemonGold_415 Improvements for TAS: -No unecessary trainer battles like the ones I got into a few times. -Manipulate luck during Red battle to freeze Venusaur first try. -Catch red Gyarados. -Obvious ones, such as manipulating luck to get Pokemon you want from grass, etc.

Thanks for reminding me. Can't believe I withheld this for a whole month. Pokemon Gold TAS (Johto): http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=6973032 If it desyncs, try again or fire up a savestate. This is a Geodude run, simply because Geodude learns Magnitude and Rock Throw. I'm not exactly sure which Pokemon would be best to level up, or if the Red Gyarados is worth using. There were plenty of mistakes in the run. I lost a lot of time by not getting Dig or Escape Rope (and was forced to fight an unnecessary battle). Also, if I aim for fastest Johto completion, I shouldn't get the Radio Card first. The first gym could have been done better, too. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Edit: In-game completion time is 2:25

I would comment, but you keep hitting this Pidgey battle that you aren't supposed to be.
