An old favorite of mine. I like the game, but back then I was only able to play 10 demo levels. Is the 100-level version really freeware?

Jetpack is a great game! I remember getting the Christmas edition on my family's 486 years ago. It came with the computer, and it took me so long to finally beat it. I downloaded the full version a while ago, and played up through several levels, maybe 20 or 30 of them. Haven't beaten the whole game, though. Squarez Deluxe is also fun.

i had played those games in shareware version back in 94. didn't like jetpack much, i was more into dangerous dave, electro body, dynamo, jazz jackrabbit, bats... but this squarez deluxe is actually good. jetpack reminds me of lode runner, which i had played too much already.

Jetpack is one of my all-time favorites. I don't care for Squarez Deluxe. If anyone is looking for Electroman, Jazz Jackrabbit or Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom, they're all on my website. I don't have Dangerous Dave yet because I'm not sure about its legal status and I don't take any chances on this sort of thing. I'm going to email John Romero to be super sure, since Softdisk told me absolutely nothing when I asked about it, other than forbidding me to charge money for it.

Jetpack is great, but is there any way to turn off the PC-speaker sounds? They really make the game unplayable.

There are no more Apogee games. I have every single Apogee game that's legal to distribute.

Yes. The other episodes are illegal to distribute.

Like the start of your site. Lookin Good. Also I'm a SuperZZTer and you're holding ZZT 3.2 on your site. If you want 3.0 or 2.0, i have a site that has em all and fan-based upgrades that increase the k limit per board and things like that. Yes we're always breaking limits. I gotta be on topic here though. Jetpack is a good game. It reminds me of lode runner.. cept, uhh, you can fly around. And it still has a following. Ando and Zandor, two guys I know, and I think Dron too were at one point all making levels.. It's a good hit, and the PC speaker adds to its glory, not kills it.

Ah, I loved this games when I was younger. I even made ~30 awesome levels for it. Just wish I was able to do more. I spoke to the author about adding certain features, but he refused. Although he did concede to my request to give away GOT for free :)

ZZT is kind of a problem. Normally a shareware game includes a license that allows it to be freely distributed, which is the point of shareware. The ZZT license rescinds the right to host any previous version, which I guess was Epic's way of making sure that BBSes and other distributors kept their version of ZZT up to date. ZZT was released as freeware on Epic's website at one point (although Epic Classics will still sell you a copy), so hopefully they don't care any more. I'll email Mark Rein or Tim Sweeney about it. In the meantime, thanks for your help on completing the ZZT collection.

Don't bother e-mailing Tim Sweeney. He said it all here where he says ZZT is a bastard stepchild, and not to e-mail him. As for epic classics, i think that includes the maps of the worlds and stuff for the 4 files. Not sure anyone's buying it though, considering it already sold 20-30,000 copies.

Ah, excellent. That's exactly the archived page I was thinking of. I was planning to write to Mark Rein first, because he was extremely supportive of my preservation efforts and got back to me right away, whereas Tim Sweeney understandably took some time to get back to me and was too busy for follow-up questions. You folks really know your ZZT, don't you?

Ah Jetpack... I remember having loads of fun with PC games like these back in the day (shareware, of course >.>). Maybe I should try making a decent level for it for the first time in my life (or a graphic pack (if only I could remember how to (it should be pretty easy to make a Rockman or Metroid pack (nested parentheses ftw)))), or finish the single play mode, or learn how to program so it can remake it for windows, or...

There are command-line parameters that you can use to select the sound. Use "jetpack -s0" to turn off the sound. I think it goes up to -s3, with one of them being the PC speaker, one the Sound Blaster, and one some other sound source. I can't remember, as I've always turned off the sound since switching to a Windows OS.

I was just going to send him my collection of levels, but looking back on them I realized that many of them aren't very good/balanced. Now I'm attempting to polish some of the better/more salvageable ones, but that's taking me longer than I expected.
