  • Emulator: FCE Ultra 0.98.15
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Uses warps
  • Uses "flying" to save time and the fast climb is the best. The last stage take damage to the Terrace

  • Thanks to everyone who gave me informations on the flagpole-stuck glitch.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Lion King(J).nes
  • I updated it to Lion King, The (Mapper 182) (Unl).nes

adelikat: Rejected, we already have the gens version, and this doesn't offer anything new. Also poor viewer response. Also, I am skeptical that this is an ok ROM choice.

So as part of the process of looking at older submissions this game came up. First this is a bootleg and more information can be found here https://bootleggames.fandom.com/wiki/Super_Lion_King. There are actually two different versions of this bootleg, the most noticeable difference is whether the bug toss mini-game is present or not. This particular submission is the bootleg version that does not contain the mini-game. After looking at this submission and comparing it to the WR on https://www.speedrun.com/super_lion_king?h=Any&x=q25757wd there is a newer trick to clip through a wall that saves about 15 seconds over this tas https://youtu.be/yAMKXB_1Yy0?si=5AU2E6oscyneyRum&t=182. Due to this, this game would fail on optimization if it was re-judged as is due to this. That flying trick also seems like it could be used more often, but I am not exactly clear how that is done and the submission notes do not describe how it is done either. There is also a discussion to be had about the acceptability of this obsolete FCEU 0.98.12 emulator for these submissions being re-judged as well. I could spend time testing whether this older game would work on acceptable FCEUX versions to bypass that issue, but since it would not pass optimization anyway it is not needed.

A reminder that it's been determined that tricks that were found after a run's submission are not supposed to count against said submission.

Yesterday I converted the run to FM2 and tried getting it to sync in FCEUX...but the emulator crashed partway through, and I couldn't get the rom to boot again after that.

I didn't have the issue JD reported after converting the FCM in FCEUX 2.6.6. However, the romFilename and author fields had garbage characters added, so I fixed them. Here's the syncing file. It may also sync with one controller instead of two, and I'm not sure what the correct framerate should be, but 60 seems inaccurate (and shows as Obsolete). Now judging can proceed either with this file or the original FCM. I didn't make a new encode because Critical_five's are still up, and no input was changed.

JD, I wonder if something got corrupted on your PC. You could try running sfc /scannow in cmd or PowerShell, and maybe checking your disk's health with a free tool like CrystalDiskInfo, then playing back the TAS again.
