Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is a 1999 remake of the classic NES title, released for the Game Boy Color. This movie aims to complete the game as fast as possible, using warps to skip sections of the game. This movie is a 5 frame improvement over the previous publication; 3 frames were saved in 1-2, and 2 were saved in 4-2.

Emulation Details:

  • Emulator: BizHawk 2.9.1
  • Core: Gambatte
  • BIOS: Official Nintendo BootROM
  • ROM Checksum: 94466f48d8b4f811608ce8641de5f82315cd60b5

Level-by-Level Breakdown:

1-2: By jumping into the ceiling in the warpzone, Mario falls down faster, which saves 3 frames here.
4-2: By ducking under the 1-block high section in the beginning, you can get a speed boost. Due to the slowdown required for the 1-block wide gap immediately after, it only saves 2 frames.

Special Thanks

Huge huge thank you to Denial140, who came up with the idea for these timesaves and showed me how to perform them! -King Kappa

Just when you think there's no more time to save, someone finds time to save. Yes vote.

Just after I heard about the time save potential in Kosmic's video on the category, makes sense!

Would these timesaves also work on the NES or Famicom original Super Mario Bros.?

Unfortunately no, due to differences in the gameplay some glitches are exclusive to one version, and each version has a different strategy/route for optimization
