I ran a search for movies by type (PSX), and a super Metroid came up. Not labeled PSX or SNES, but does redirect to the SNES game's page. Turns out it was only submitted, not published. Only bringing awareness in case this is a bug with un-labeled games. :)

What do you mean you ran a search by type? Not sure what you mean by "un-labeled games" either. Could you provide more context/specifics to what you're referring to?
If that's the case, there's nothing wrong here. The game "Super Metroid: Kaizo Edition" doesn't have any game versions in the catalog, so the site can't know which system(s) the game belongs to. Despite this, the reason the one existing submission for this game (#5902: Hoandjzj's SNES Super Metroid: Kaizo Edition in 1:17:59.24), is listed as a SNES TAS, is because submissions have a separate field for specifying the system.
Edit: Ohhh the game list, I thought we were talking about the general search bar (top right corner of the site). The game showing up regardless of which system is specified, could be considered a bug I guess? For games without any versions: either it never shows up, or it always shows up. I'd think the latter would be preferable so the game doesn't become too hard to find.

So is this something that can be manually added to the catalog so the site knows where to put it? Obviously this is not a pressing issue, or an issue within the site's code whatsoever, I didn't realize there were catalogues that would automatically populate different aspects of the site.
I assure you I am not pressing for this to be fixed, you guys are wrong, etc. I'm more interested in the new site workings. Is there a forum post or wiki that explains these changes when they were brand new? I would like to catch up on the workings.

I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

When a submission is made, the author enters the name of the game, but it's not initially linked to any Game entry on the site. It tends to be linked by the publisher, or it may end up sitting on the todo list if not published. The system/console for the submission is determined by the movie file.
When a game entry is made, it's not linked to any system, since the same game can be released for multiple systems. The editor has to add a Game Version, including the system, region, ROM name, and checksum. In this case, the game entry was made and linked to the submission, but no game versions were added.
I'm not sure if there's a summary of the new site; it's been completely rewritten but maintains a lot of the old features and compatibility. It's open-source and was announced here, and launched Jan 2022.
