OK guys, I'm sure some of you already know about this, but it's EXTREMELY important. Reason being, most Genesis games have upwards of 3 or 4 versions (some can reach 8 or 9, I think), whereas NES and SNES games tend to only have 1-3 versions usually. An example of this is the Quackshot timeattack that was just posted here. It only works with Revision 00 of the game, as in Revision 01 it desyncs after a little while. For those who don't know how to do this, here are some instructions: 1. Download GoodGen from Zophar's Domain or another such site. 2. Unzip everything to C:\GoodGen 3. Place all of your ROMs in that GoodGen folder. 4. Go to Run and type in "command.com" to open up a DOS prompt. 5. Type "cd\" to go to the C drive, then "cd\GoodGen" to get into that directory. 6. Type "goodgen rename", and after a little while all your ROMs will have proper names. 7. Said ROMs will be in C:\GoodGen\GenRen , so place them back into your ROM folder. And there you have it. EDIT: Or alternately, as several people have noted, you can use a program like GoodGUI or GoodWindows to simplify the task greatly. Hoping this doesn't break any forum rules, Josh.
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Well the thing is, everyone conforming to GoodGen names would help a great deal in determining which ROM version would be needed to play a certain movie. Like I said before, Genesis games tend to have around 3-5 different versions (sometimes more), with slight differences which might cause desync. -Josh

I believe renaming isn't necessary as long as CRC or MD5 of the ROM is known... and anyways, that's not the problem of the vid creator :) Overall, I'm very happy with how the Genesis section has branched out. (Bisqwit, you rock) By summer's end, i expect to see a much more varied movieset being exhibited. Thanks for all the input and community support.

Well, the vid creator could list the CRC, which we'd all have to go through extra steps to see, or he could just go WhateverROM (U) and save everyone the trouble of hunting down multiple ROMs from pages that are generally very unstable and/or are annoying "Sign up for a site account so we can spam you" traps. So yes, it pretty much IS the vid creator's problem. Renaming your ROMs according to GoodX standards benefits everyone, including yourself.
