Any possibility of seeing a WIP of your work thus far Saturn? Maybe when you get to phantoon (where MF stopped working on his run)? That'd be swell

The first WIP will be after the Chozo statue fight. Reading the previous posts wouldn't hurt as well since I mentioned it already.

I shaved of 28!!! more frames (1/2 sec) alone in the room with the shooting-blocks (the one after the missile pack) by using a insane and unbelievable strategy to get up there much faster. Total lead 84 Frames now. I will check some last variations to possibly save even more frames before recording further. Sorry for the low progress, I had absolutely no time for recording in the last days.

Awsome work Saturn, I actually thought Micheal's run was perfect but you have improved upon it by quite a bit, over one second already. I hope you stay motivated to finish this run, because the existing Super Metroid run looks amazing and this run could better it by several minutes.

Well, I decided to change my run a bit. Before recording a any % run I will do a different - never shown in a movie before - run. It's for sure the most crazy and insane run you can perform in this game (much harder than a 14 % run for example). I will let you guess what kind of a run I try to pull off. My goal is to still beat the game in less than 1 hour even in this mode. I also decided to not take that much effort for frame-optimizing anymore as it would just be too long and too boring. I understand now what you ment, Highness. And about the WIP, don't worry. You will definitely get one before Christmas. I'm in Norfair already but I don't want to spoil the surprise until I complete the most insane part.

"I also decided to not take that much effort for frame-optimizing anymore as it would just be too long and too boring." This meaning just for your special run or speed running this game altogether?

Frame-optimized or not, I can't wait for the Phantoon first run (that's the route you were planning to use, right?). Are you doing a reverse boss order run now?

I dont understand the logic in: "Frame-optimized is boring and long." I find it much better when a run is optimized. Anyway, do we dare ask Mister JXQ, when/if he will take on the huge task of doing a 100% run? :P

AngerFist - Did you notice how super-serious Saturn was in the beginning. Took him ALOT of time just to improve 2-3 frames. Entertainment is not always about each-frame-super-perfect-movie. If I did a movie like that I would probably get sick or something. Even though I encourage people putting down that kind of effort into their movies. :)

This is why its hard making a good Super Metroid run and I never mentioned anything about entertainment being related with frames in this situation. In many cases, doing a TAS requires to gain every possible frame as we strive for art and also fast as possible runs. You said he was super-serious at the beginning, so how is he now? I can't speak for Saturn so he will answer soon for himself but I merely stated my opinion about his latest post.

Don't get me wrong. Of course I still optimize the run frame-perfect as good as I can, I ment I don't take the effort to seek for improvements after I did a move I think is the best in this case and I don't compare every step I did to Michaels run. The quality and speed will be not worser than Michaels run but I can't guarantee improvements all the way using this method (which would be minor anyway). Oddity: It is only for this special run, the any % run will be more serious anyway. Fredrik: You got it! And yes, I would make Phantoon first in any%..

I must admit that it still seems a very daunting task. I think about everything that would need to be planned and it's overwhelming - but it's something I definitely want to try eventually. I'm going to at least work on SMB3 first. There's also another game I may want to try before that, but for now I'm keeping it under wraps. But I haven't forgotten about this run! :)

Btw, Phantoon first in an "any%" is not faster, even though it was thought it would be over at metroid2002, it's been tested thoroughly.

Really? Can you give a source/link where we can check the results of the testings? That would ease my work on a any% run enormous.

I did it myself, I thought it would be revelutionary for Super Metroid speedrunning, but it wasn't. :/ I'll upload my work if I can find it, I'm not sure, but it might be lost, I spent weeks on it, so I'm gonna cry if it's gone. :(

I'm now right before the Speed Booster and reached this location with only 2 Energy Tanks during the Heat. Now I need to refill my Energy on this flyig Red 5-pack creatures. Here comes the power of luck manipulation in question to only get the best energy gain with every kill (aside with the Missiles fill-up). I decided to make a small movie-clip containing a couple interesting parts to demonstrate some nice techs and the speed of this run. http://rapidshare.de/files/8967497/Super_Metroid_-_Speed_Demos.avi.html Enjoy!

Looks very clean and tight run so far, keep it up! One question though, at 01:41 min into the avi, wouldnt it be faster if you'd not kill that enemy and instead jump on it to move to the right?

Spoony Bard: Yeah I know, thats why I made this clip to not let you wait any longer :-) Angerfist: The thing is I needed a Super Missile in any case and this was the only situation I could get one without much delay.
