This submission is a 0 frame improvement over my previously rejected run of American Idol for the GBA - #7374: ShesChardcore's GBA American Idol in 10:58.71 I feel that with the improvements that have been found and implemented that this TAS will be deemed good enough for submission and eventual TAS of the Year award.
List of improvements:
0 frames were saved in the menuing portion of the game, including an additional 0 frames during character creation. Further still, another 0 frames were found during the song selection process. Some songs are shorter than others, leading to 0 frames saved through optimal song selection.
A further 0 frames were saved in every song, including the 2nd one which I had previously thought was optimal and unimprovable. I'm shocked that I managed to save 0 frames there.
Thanks to Logan for reminding me that I saved another 0 frames by optimization of ending input.
Total frames saved: 0
Thank you in advance for the upcoming publication of this run. With all of the saved frames this all but guaranteed to be accepted and I will accept the TAS of the Year award ahead of time with humility and grace.

So instead of the triviality rule (ban) we now have this:
While most of these are matched by this game, the question is how do we determine/define optimality? Can you be more or less optimal and get different completion time? Is optimality there outside of how it sounds? By playing as good as possible, do you get higher score and/or better time?

I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Would "contains speed/entertainment trade offs" fit here?
feos — Today at 10:32 AM
I have no idea, I don't know how the game works
Chardcore — Today at 10:35 AM
It's possible that there are better speed outcomes by choosing different songs. I never tested every song on both male and female. The initial run was meant to be an April fools joke so I didn't do a deep dive into it since I didn't expect it would ever be eligible for publication
feos — Today at 10:35 AM
and now it is! (maybe)
[10:36 AM]
"great improvements, accepting"
Chardcore — Today at 10:38 AM
But in general yes a higher "score" would be possible with actually putting effort into hitting all the notes but then you get to hear just terrible singing and not "hilariously terrible" singing
feos — Today at 10:39 AM
sounds like separate branches (edited)
Chardcore — Today at 10:39 AM
I still finished the game successfully with a win condition
[10:40 AM]
Yeah, my run is more like a low% run technically
feos — Today at 10:40 AM
low% as in it's longer than any%?
Chardcore — Today at 10:41 AM
Plus I'm pretty sure there's at least one note that is mechanically impossible to hit so 100% is out of the question
[10:41 AM]
Not longer, but lower score
[10:41 AM]
I hit the bare minimum amount of notes to win. Maybe it's like pacifist sort of
feos — Today at 10:43 AM
if potentially shorter songs is the only way to potentially speed it up, it's worth checking at some point
Chardcore — Today at 10:44 AM
I think I used the same songs as in my RTA WR (I'm proud of this) and I think the Rta run uses the shortest
[10:46 AM]
What I don't know is if the opposite gender singing the songs changes their run time
ikuyo — Today at 10:47 AM
Gender is a scam to make the run slower then
Chardcore — Today at 10:47 AM
Agree
feos — Today at 10:48 AM
is there a way to gain more score by taking a different route? (not mandatory to answer unless max score is planned)
Chardcore — Today at 10:51 AM
Potentially yes. Score is basically: when you hit 5 notes in a row with success you get a star. Theoretically longer songs would have more stars available
[10:51 AM]
You need X number of stars to advance in the competition each round

it's what I though
feos — Today at 11:03 AM
@Chardcore please reply in the thread too, so it's recorded and I can proceed
Chardcore — Today at 11:04 AM
I am just going to copy and paste the discord conversation in the spirit of doing the bare minimum for this game
feos — Today at 11:05 AM
0 improvements to the discord chat?
