Hey everyone, i am having trouble doing this simple thing. What i do is open super mario bros, play for a bit, rewind back the tas tool a couple of seconds, input right and a at the tas window for mario to jump and when i unpause the tas tool runs and nothing happens. I watched a ton of youtube videos but i cant grasp this. CAn anyone give me simple to follow instructions along with what i must press? I assume i am doing something wrong with the record option

Which emulator are you using? What exactly do you mean when you say the tas tool and tas window?
Current Projects: TAS: Wizards & Warriors III.

Make sure you were actually recording your inputs as a movie(Yeah, that is what it's called) and not just playing the game, rewinding it, and playing it again. Even if you push buttons, if you don't record your inputs, it won't actually do anything. If you're using FCEUX, you should see a red circle on the bottom-right part of the screen when you're recording. If that is not the problem, like the response above has already mentioned, you should use the correct terminology. I hope this helps in any way.

Should i change to fxeux from biz? I think there is the problem, i pressed it and i think it was recording but wasnt keeping the commands, then i tried the play button and it was deleting all my inputs. I will try again in a bit and report back Okay when i have in the tas window the recording mode selected it doesnt do anything, all my inputs are deleted when i unpause it, if i deselect it it keeps the commands it seems

Uncheck "Recording Mode" in TAStudio, that's for recording live input instead of painting it in. When you have that disabled, it won't delete your input on playback.

exactly that was happening, i thought it was for recording what i input but that was not the case. So after i input my commands i do what? Save the project and run it to see what happens? That recording box was causing the problems.

You can play it back within TAStudio using the controls above the checkboxes, set Markers on specific frames so you can jump back to them whenever you want, click in the box to the left of a frame number to jump to that specific frame... TAStudio's pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it, but there are tutorials on the forums that can also help you out if you need it.
