Tall, ALAKTORN, and I started focusing on the any% TAS instead of the 100% TAS. So ALAKTORN had saved 102 frames on the talk to Toad part thanks to Y run and 12 frames on the swimming part of the basement. I saved 2 frames going into the Mario's painting (lol). Then I recently saved 6 frames on the glitchy LJs in the basement. I also improved LLL reds by 8 frames by literally redoing the whole star in a better way. And now, I TASed SSL star cancel and it saves 283 frames over the no-star-cancel route ! A lot of new improvements and new strats are coming, and I hope we don't spend years on it.
Any% has a time of 08:45.74 now, which is 00:06.90 less than the published run. So nice
I've uploaded an alternative method to skip the endless stairs that is slower by 4 frames, but uses a slightly different strat and I thought it was cool.

The progress of the 150 star is being serious again. We are past JRB and 2nd key door skip and are now doing the 1st trip of Wet-Dry World. I have decided to upload the first try of the 100 coin star.

I haven't followed this in a while, but after realizing all the new discoveries along with 0 B press strats this game actually starts looking quite different in general compared to the original outside "no BLJ + more characters". Nice!🙂
I've been busy with studying this whole year but me and Adeal recently tried out many ideas to make the future 150 star TAS faster. One example of those is doing to HMC as the 1st stage instead of LLL because 3 of the stars in HMC are fastest as Yoshi and 2 of them can be cancelled by licking them and falling in the void, skipping both 1 and 3 star texts, as opposed to LLL where we would only be able to skip the 3 star text. If any of you reading this has a question about the route or has even the weirdest ideas to make it faster, you will be welcome to tell them.

Also, this is a cool strat for DDD 100 which comes from Adeal's idea, and the result of a collaborative work was able to tell us that this was faster than using the regular swimming strat with Luigi.

Hey, so I made this TAS about 20 days ago, but I didn't actually post it here, so here it :D
It's a movie that aims to complete the game without unlocking Mario or using his caps. This is more of a proof of concept than a TASvideos submission, and I talked to some judges who told me that it wouldn't get accepted anyways.
Well this was pretty fun to do. BitS was a real challenge to figure out the best moves as Wario, but I al gkad with what I came up with :)

What's the deal you might ask? I make SM64DS TASes. You watch them. And you won't get disappointed.
(I hope)
Months after... the 150 stars route has completely changed. The main change is that we've swapped the 2nd floor trips to unlock Wario early in order to do BBH in only 1 trip as Mario, whereas you would normally need 2 trips because of the red coin star needing Wario in BBB. Also, The Secret under the Moat is faster as Mario (by clipping inside the black brick) and doesn't need Luigi's cap anymore because we can get inside the star cage with a dive reset. Many tests have been done in SL and TTM, and the route is now cooler with even more star cancels. There's still the possibility of Goomboss Battle secret stars being faster as Mario, but that hasn't been tested yet, and wouldn't radically change the route. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/1/d/1ZQYTkPwaL9AXUFAvYo9ulFZ1e8MpDmJwATpNOhXMZas/pubhtml
I posted a video with a description that explains stuff about the new route :

To clarify: three months ago Jordan Raugutt (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgrETgba3PsvDva9EqMfS3w) made the SM64DS community aware of a pause clipping glitch. In some courses the camera will display a zoomed out view when you pause, and this will unload certain objects very briefly, giving you enough time to clip inside. In the 150 Star TAS this will be used for the black brick at the entrance to The Secret under the Moat, as well as the cannon in Whomp's Fortress.

Now for some other information about the 150 Star TAS. Since the summer, Adeal and Migu joined the project, so there are four of us working on it. We've been focused on lots of different tests, mainly route tests: even before figuring out the Wario Early route we'd already made some changes.
There was another recent discovery back in August that makes this possible. You may remember that previously, a star cancel in Snowman's Land required a special setup with an 100 coin star:

For loading zones that have a slow white fade, just licking a star as you enter them isn't enough, because the celebration will interrupt the loading zone. That doesn't happen with the other type of loading zone that has a quick black fade (like the SSL loading zone used for the star cancel in the Any% TAS). So the solution for the slow loading zones was to regain tangibility and control using a 100 coin star, then touch the star after the transition had begun. But it turned out that regaining control is actually simpler to achieve than we thought. Sharkey found that by simply swallowing something, such as a coin, you get the same effect:

This means that a star cancel is now possible in TTM, and SL will use more than one!

There's one other thing worth mentioning. Over the past couple of years we have been doing a lot of research and testing to try and determine whether Bob-omb Battlefield is faster as Yoshi or as Mario: they both have their advantages. The main thing being tested was the 100 coin star. For a very long time we were combining it with the red coin star as Mario (latest version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cz0i0IOJgI). At the start of 2017 I figured out a Yoshi route that was a similar speed, and this is when the uncertainty began. Adeal also recently tested combining the 100 coin star with Footrace with Koopa the Quick (latest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp_NFdE-zSI). However, he didn't beat the new and improved Yoshi version I worked on over the summer that utilises hyperspeed. So 100 coins combined with red coins as Yoshi is confirmed to be fastest, and we can finally say that Bob-omb Battlefield will be completed as Yoshi!

So... the 0 Star TAS in the previous post wasn't an April Fool's fake, it's 100% real! Submitting it here would have given that away :^)

The new glitch I found, Quantum Tunnelling, blows the game wide open. Migu's made a video explaining it:

The 6:17 TAS was rushed for April Fool's and we've got a lot to optimise before the proper submission. We're hoping to get it under 6 minutes! Look forward to that later this year, fingers crossed :)
After almost a year... we're still making progress, in the middle of TTM 100 coins now. The route has changed a little bit: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQa-iasZF9joYZM4APcUnXFvmbbhnt_dfDOHBBS-eMkweCSTXiPHhQSE37Yqs2mB5h72Wyvr5P1fvro/pubhtml Most notably, it's faster to do all of CCM as Mario thanks to strats to get the red coins in ice blocks fast as Mario:
Link to video
It also might be slightly faster to collect Breathtaking View from the Bridge as Yoshi instead of Mario because of a glitch that shortens the mushroom transformation.
We are also working on optimizing the 0 star run, but it's very hard to optimize the glitches since they are extremely precise. Here are some optimized segments:
Link to videoLink to video
However the remaining clips are much harder to optimize. The fastest strat for entering the castle is to use this clip at 6:04:
Link to video
As you can see in the video, the clip requires you to reach a 1/64 x 1/64 x 1/64 unit^3 position with sufficient downward speed, and in order to actually reach the seam next to the door, you need high enough speed in the right direction as well.
The last two clips are reverse 1 star door skip, which skips exiting course from PSS as in the current 0 star TAS:
Link to video
and the pillar clip near the WDW painting (same as current 0 star TAS). These two are more precise than the floor clips but should be considerably easier to optimize than the castle roof clip.
We've also been working on a "3 star" run, which bans tunneling, and would follow the same overall route as the published run. Though we've found lots of timesaves since that was published, and it might be unique enough for a separate branch. There's also a 80 star run in progress, which bans glitches in the castle:
