No, this is not a full run of the game, if anyone thinks that. I haven't pulled another "Link to the past" and completed the game this fast. This is the PRO levels on Adventures of Lolo 2 played as fast as I could manage. For those who don't know what the PRO levels are, they're secret levels that are accessible by typing in certain password in the PASSWORD option. There are a total of four PRO levels, PRO A, PRO B, PRO C and PRO D. I'll now give a brief explanation of the four PRO levels:
PRO A:
This level is very hard. The key to this PRO level is to figure out how and where the Gol (the pink enemy) appears. Once you have done this, you can manipulate him to respawn somewhere that benefits you. There are also a lot of techniques that you have to use on this PRO level that you haven't used before, such as letting another enemy block the statues' fire.
I manipulate where the Gol appears by moving the green blocks over the squares where he would normally appear. This way I can make him appear on squares where he normally wouldn't. That's why I move around the green blocks so much, in case you're wondering.
PRO B:
On this level I use the technique that Slotermeyer told me about, slightly changed. Not much to comment on here, as you can see you have to be really fast with shooting the enemies if you want to beat this level. This level has been improve a lot (about 12 seconds)thanks to Slotermeyer's strategy. At the end of this stage you have to zig-zag between the Gol-fire. This level is also very hard.
PRO C:
The shortest of the PRO levels. I use a technique that hanzou told me about on this level. The only thing you have to think about when playing this level is to avoid the Gol fire. With savestates and slowdown, this isn't that hard, really :)
PRO D:
In my opinion the hardest level. This level is really complex, and I'm not positive that the route I use is the fastest one. There is a waiting period of a few seconds on this level, but I try to move around in entertaining ways during this time.
To sum things up, the PRO levels really are "pro" levels, if you can beat them on console you can consider yourself very good on this game. And for those of you who never beat these PRO levels, here's how it could be done!
Special thanks to:
  • ktwo, for his PRO levels guide on Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com)
  • Slotermeyer, for his strategy on PRO B.
  • hanzou, for his strategy on PRO C.

Bisqwit: Rejecting in favor of Baxter's faster movie. But thanks for this submission anyway :)

I voted yes. It's a nice movie, completing all the pro levels. A pro level run should definately be published. I must say that I'll probably attempt a pro level run myself some time.

Here's a significantly faster strategy to finish off PROD: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/253/Lolo2-PROD.fcm. I rerecorded this from Randil's run, so be sure to fast-forward past PROA-C to see what I've changed in the final level. Unfortunately, this does not address the waiting period where Lolo stalls so that the two Almas trap themselves. Until a strategy is found that remedies this, I feel this run is not complete. In comparison to the regular Lolo 2 run, the pro levels--involving side-stepping Don Medusa (PROA), rapidly blasting Almas (PROB), and dodging Gol fire (PROC)--capture the essence of a speedrun rather than an optimized-puzzle run. Although the undesired waiting period has been made somewhat entertaining, the proper climax for this run would be to avoid this by quickly manipulating and dodging the Almas (PROD), and I am quite certain that this is possible. -hanzou

Nicely done on PRO D. People have to stop improving these levels or I won't even feel like a part of this run soon *kidding* :) Thanks for the tip. And I agree with you that the waiting period is really annoying, I'll look into it some more. It's likely that I will cancel this, even if I can't find a way to avoid the waiting period on PRO D, at least I'll use your technique on the fcm.

Well... that was considerably faster... good job on pro D. I haven't looked into Pro B, Pro C or Pro D, but I think they all can be improved. Sofar, I analyzed pro A, and it can be done over 700 (!) frames (= nearly 12 seconds = nearly 44 full squares) faster. I'm sorry for not submitting a wip, but like I said; I think the other levels can be improved as well, and I'll submit my movie when I'm done.

Here's a new strategy for PROD that demonstrates a shorter wait period, kills one more Alma, traps another Alma, and gets one of the bottom hearts without using an emerald block: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/254/Lolo2-PROD_newstrategy.fcm. Again, this is built off Randil's run so if you have a saved state from that run you can load it to the start of the last level. With some combination of these demonstrated techniques, I'm sure somebody will soon find a way to beat PROD without any stalling. PROA will inevitably be the slowest since it's the only one that requires waiting for an enemy (Gol) to reappear. It's good to hear you managed to speed it up a lot, Baxter! -hanzou

Great movie, but I've managed to do it even faster now. Check this out: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/255/Lolo2_pro_levels.fcm about 21 seconds faster than first version. And good luck on your version Baxter, I look forward to it.

Thank you. :) Frame advance is the shit, you know. I'll also look into PRO B and C and see if I can find out something. EDIT: PRO B now done 320 frames faster: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/256/Lolo2_pro_levels.fcm

Hmz Randil, that was kinda my strategy on pro B :P, nice find though. THe thing that's been bothering me in all pro D version I've seen sofar, the first egg that's being pushed into the water.... you only need to push it in a half square. You can walk back then, this saves one square.

Ah yes, you're right about the egg. I'll get it fixed for the final version. Or if you make that version, I don't know right now :) either way, i'll keep posting my findings here. EDIT: Oh, and hanzou PM:d me this small improvement on PRO D, if anyone's interested: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/257/Lolo2-PROD_bitshorter.fcm

I saw it, he posted it on IRC. /Edit I'm done with Pro C now. I improved it with 31 frames. Total improvement is now 1180 frames (I also saved a total of 18 frames with entering "PROA, PROB and PROC" as a password. (I'm taking a small break now, but hope to finish Pro D tonight.)

Not sure if your newly completed PROB does this, but here's a modification that saves one square and shows another trick: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/259/Lolo2-PROB_allshots.fcm -hanzou

Yes... I knew about that, I also used it. My Pro B is a little faster than the version you posted.
