Let's make this weirder.

The Stuff:

  • Bios: SCPH5500 (NTSC-J bios)
  • Hardest Difficulty
  • BizHawk 2.3.1
Stealing my comments from YouTube again cause it's easier.
This is an updated version of the original title "One on One" featuring more characters and much, much less menus.
The lowest score value is chosen as well, dropping from 11 to 3, not 2 since it's quicker to shoot from the three-point field goal than to either lean in or rush for a dunk, shooting out means control is gone.
The character used in this TAS is Lamour who is one of the tall characters in the game.
The only downside to tall characters in this game is their skill level in shooting for 3's is trash.
Unfortunately using the shorter characters for their speed such as Furin are much worse when they face a taller opponent making the quick shots near impossible.
And lastly, there's always one round no matter the character where the opponent will take the jump ball before you.

feos: Judging...
feos: Delaying until I figure out how to guarantee consistency of decisions.
feos: After a lot more discussion, private and public, it looks like my take on how similar these two games are wasn't shared by other judges, nor have my arguments convinced them. It was important in this case, because these games look at the very least borderline similar to me, so I needed more educated opinions.
The main argument is that the rules of the games are rather different. Not as different as "one has fighting and it's heavily used, while the other one doesn't"; mostly in how they tweak the basketball rules. Since the sports are played by different rules, and in-game controls are also different, they are most logically not the same game. Which means both this game and 1 on 1 can be published in Vault separately.
Gameplay is super repetitive, and the feedback was almost non-existent. Accepting to Vault.

This game is indeed similar in TAS to its other version, but it feels much more annoying. In addition to random enemy behavior (and randomly failing to grab the ball), it also has random delays, and not a lot of room to manipulate it, because each level consists of just one round (or whatever it's called). Here's a movie where I reach the third enemy some frames sooner, but grabbing the ball just stopped working: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/63205307056897331 I tried delaying some prior actions but that resulted in being slower than this submission, in various ways.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
