Finally! After several days of attempting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, only to wind up with desync problems (this happened to me several times), I now bring you my next version of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Speed-Run! Yay!
Now, before you rush for the forum to vote 'No', I implore you to watch the movie: this one is FAR better than the first two i've submitted, and it's more than obvious that all the runs that I made over the few days (and, which weren't submitted, thanks to the aforementioned desync problems) were improving my skill and knowledge of each particular Zone. So, it comes around to an incredible show, and Sonic 2 fans will surely delight in the stunts that I was able to pull off with that super-nifty slow-motion.
There were a few things that I find wrong with the movie, however. Though most of the maneuvers are flawless, there are points in the game where the game's time conflicts with where I want to go. In this case, platforms are generally in different places than they were, etc., though this also applies in an opposite sense, with a platform being in a certain place, etc.
The next problem was Metropolis Zone. It's comprised of THREE zones, not the normal two. This makes for tedious gameplay, making it difficult to improve. The only way I could find to possibly shave seconds off my time was to make use of Tails to get the screws to move faster.
Speaking of which, I wasn't able to use Tails as much to assist as I could in the previous submission. I'll see if I can't work on that.
But, anyways, here it is. Hope you enjoy it!
Update: Just to throw this stuff in here, there were several parts that made beating 'records' impossible. For example, in Oil Ocean Zone, the record-beater goes under the oil to reach places previously unaccessible, and thusly, beating the levels in a much shorter time than going through the maze above. I spent several hours trying to achieve this trick as well with a previous version, but apparently, the console version has advantages over the version I picked up. Also, on Chemical Plant 1, there's a non-existant door leading to the end of the level quicker. Either i've missed it, or it's not in my version, but I followed the movie to the utmost detail. Oh well.

Bisqwit: Rejecting this submission, because it can apparently be done better.

Collins> Dash less, run more. Or if you Dash, don't rev up as much. I was thinking the other way around. Dash more, run less. And when you dash, make sure to rev it up to max. But maybe I'm missing something. SprintGod> That movie is nothing *evil grin* When can we expect this new gift to humanity?

Sometimes taking the time to rev up -- even if it only takes, say, half a second to get there -- can effect your time in the long run. Take Metropolis Act 3 for example. Revving up on those bolts instead of simply running up them actually takes a bit more time to do, considering you have to wait until you're done Spin Dashing before you can stop and rev up again. If you're playing Alone with either character, I'll admit that it's probably faster than trying to run it alone, but if you're playing with Sonic and Miles, running instead of Super Spin Dashing works just as well, and perhaps quite a bit better.

It's true that all of that had to be said, but I'd still like to thank m.i. for putting in the effort. Yes, working virtually every waking hour for 3 days is a lot of work. This pursuit of perfection is demanding, but it also has a measure of nobility in it. Emulators may help us overcome the limitations of reflexes and "skill", but they don't overcome the need for the imagination, creativity, and dedication it takes to play a game perfectly. This is a general thank you to everyone who takes the time to try, whether their submission is accepted or not. Also, I don't think it's true that everyone's first submission is lousy, though the movie itself may be lousy. I've spent months (on and off, because I give priority to work, family, and taking time to enjoy life) on my current speed run, but I decided to submit a different movie first because I knew it would be easy to do and might be noteworthy for it's incredibly short length. I played NES Where's Waldo (yes, Where's Waldo) perfectly, but it was unpopular because, well, it's a freakin Where's Waldo movie. The run was good, the movie was lousy. Just wanted to make that distinction on behalf of the many people who have submitted perfect runs that weren't accepted, not because their "first submission was lousy", but because the game they played was boring. Anyway, keep trying; don't let anyone get you down if they say that your submission is lousy, or throw the fact that it's your first submission back in your face; and above all, do it for the love of the game.

I found this movie quite enjoyable, because i find sonic games insanely hard to play at supersonic speed (no pun intended). There are a few questions though: In Hill Top Zone you jump on to the first 2 lifts (both going down and right) and then charge up a spindash, but as i recall and tried it out to be sure the lifts can be just jumped over, any reason why you don't? To me jumping over them seems faster. In Aquatic Ruin 1 at the very end you stop and charge up a spindash even when you have the supershoe, is spindashing really faster? On Aquatic Ruin boss you jump to the right pole, but i was thinking why not jump to the left one? I think you could defeat the boss faster if you did that. Also as a general advice i think you should rethink where to charge up the spindash and where to just plain run, because often it felt it took a lot more time to stop, charge up and dash rather than just keep running. I personally enjoyed this movie, but im afraid to vote for it... id be crucified either way! :p

I mostly did this to renew interest in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Perhaps when Q comes out with his Sonic 2 movie (which is leagues better than this one, trust me), i'll take some notes, study the movie, and try again. As far as it goes, though, this looks like a rejected submission.

For those of you thinking of voting 'Yes' on this movie, I suggest you first watch my WIP Sonic 2 run (first 5 zones, half of the game), taking into consideration that all of those levels can be completed significantly faster than I did them.

This was definitely more impressive than the submitted movie.
