Hello everyone, I am the little new guy and I decided to probably make a TAS of Mario Golf as my first one. Now, before I start, here is THE question: what do you want to see in that TAS? Some things I could do:
-Whole tournament and aim for entertainement (and hoping to get 1500 points with first 5 courses to unlock the last one).
-Speed golf and aim for ingame/real time.
-Mini-golf and aim for fastest time or entertainement.
-Ring challenges
-Something else?
So yeah, I would like to get your comments on what YOU would like to see, and what would make an acceptable TAS.
I decided to TAS the first hole of the first course, for fun, for understanding TASing techniques and for understanding game's mechanics.
Here's the .m64:

I would like if you could check if my video works and if my technique wasn't too bad.
Some things I saw while doing that quick run (well not that much 672 rerecords):
-Code input to get all characters (and 5/6 courses) is really annoying to enter. I haven't tested everything, but fastest way I found is to hold each button for 5 frames and release for 1 frame. So: V,V,V,V,V,,V,V,V,V,V,,<,<, ...
-Wind is hardly manipulable. The manipulation is done by pressing start at a different frame at the press start page, and by navigating in menu items. Though, even by manipulating, you often fall on the same wind. In about 20 tests, I got the wind I used in that test once, a 9m front wind twice and the rest was a 17m front-side wind. If anyone finds a reliable way to manipulate it, you'll be my hero.
-I first thought there are a load of different shots you can take from a given position. You can change clubs, change shot power and change alignment (big with joystick and small with direction pad). Then, I noticed it wasn't true. There were in fact WAY TOO MUCH positions, when I remembered you can hit the ball at different positions by holding Z. 10000 different positions of that too, for each of the previous. So yeah, testing them all by hand would be pretty futile. Even with a bot it would take forever I think.
-The game is really cheap. Look at my failed chip in frame advance to see what I am talking about. I posted the run with the failed shot to show that purpose. Yeah, the ball fell in the hole, but not.
-I would need a good video plugin (with settings preferably) for that game. I don't know much about them, and only finding some plugin took me 20 minutes earlier and it has some minor graphical bugs.
So yeah, that's all I have to say for now, so any comments on whatever pertaining to that run would be appreciated.
