I came across this DS emulator. http://melonds.kuribo64.net/ Seems to be a couple years in development now, so it's still fairly new, but seems to have come a ways in development since then. It looks quite promising, but I haven't seen any discussion about it. I'm not sure how it fairs currently compared to DeSmuME though.

Rundown: melonDS is brought up on the updates on the Discord of TASVideos ever since v0.1. Arisotura made this as a spite emulator against DeSmuME. All features and emulation work is to avoid using hacky methods. The emulator is more accurate than DeSmuME (besides endrift's medusa which is in preivew for 2 years and is the next emulator goal). It's also able to draw the ground better than DeSmuME rather than having broken pixels all over the place. (there will be images in a bit) It supports Wifi before DeSmuME and it's much cleaner (in which the response from DeSmuME was to work and then release theirs) When melonDS first came out it was noted that DeSmuME was playing catchup on certain functionality. There is DSi work being done to the emulator so something besides no$ will support that system. Between versions 0.7.1 and 0.7.2 there was a massive timing renovation that made some games bug out, however it's been fixed for the most part. Test whatever game you enjoy and see how far it goes. If it's completable great. If you land in a bug make a report about it. It'll be looked after, and completed rather than deleted.

Thanks for the rundown. A 'spite emulator' you say, lol. That's really interesting though. Speaking of medusa, I'm looking forward to see what becomes of that myself. Out of the 3, which one do you think has the most potential for an addition to Bizhawk? My guess is probably medusa, but some time down the road.

Should've mentioned this back on 20th June but I honestly forgot. DSi is coming. More info about it can be read on these 4 links: http://melonds.kuribo64.net/comments.php?id=94 http://melonds.kuribo64.net/comments.php?id=96 http://melonds.kuribo64.net/comments.php?id=97 http://melonds.kuribo64.net/comments.php?id=99 The related source code can be found here: https://github.com/Arisotura/melonDS/tree/melonDSi Also to note, EZGames has quoted me on a feature request for a list of requirements needed for it to become a TASing emulator. https://github.com/Arisotura/melonDS/issues/463 melonDS also has functional OpenGL scaling for the people that don't want to see pixels around the screen at 2 times (or more) on 3D games. It even defeats our resident DeSmuME emulator in graphics and performance in this field. That has been released for some time now. Weakest point as people still point out is the sound quality, which personally I haven't had any issues with.

melonDSi beta release, testing is open. Requirements can be found here: http://melonds.kuribo64.net/comments.php?id=103
Using melonDSi As with regular melonDS, System->Run will boot the firmware, which should land you into the DSi menu if you did everything right. You will need to recalibrate the touchscreen through the system settings app to have it work correctly. melonDSi can boot some DSi-mode apps, but they currently don't work that well. Booting games melonDSi is able to boot DS-mode games from the DSi menu. They currently run with the DS-mode BIOSes and backwards-compatible touchscreen mode, but at the 133MHz clock speed and with 16MB of RAM. DSi-enhanced games do not boot yet. Direct boot is likely to break things as it hasn't been updated yet. Other issues Do not attempt using savestates, they can and will go wrong. melonDSi is based on melonDS 0.8.1, so it will have the bugs present in that version.

I like melonDS better than DeSmuME for ONE BIG REASON: It runs better on my PC through RetroArch :)
