abuses:
-glitch at tank battle allowing me to bypass it completely after taking some damage. -glitch at supercomputer allowing me to skip it all together and head right for big boss. -glitch where you use the transciever to make items and ammunition reappear without leaving the room (this is also used in the Arnold boss battle to defeat him more quickly with the Rocket Launcher). -walk through enemies to save time -(unsure) slowing down gameplay so i could optomize going through the menus.
i take damage. gas rooms, heat panels, sewers, some gun shots, and a few boss battles. i do NOT use death.
i aim for fastest time with fewest items found throughout the game.
Metal Gear: metal gear is not the shoot-em-up game for soldier boys... its tactical action. is stealth. its using your head to get passed soldiers instead of mercilessly killing them. it is also the bastardized version from the ORIGINAL MSX console game.
Movie making was tougher. variables seem to tackle me at every turn this time around. however, through help from several board members (as well as previous knowledge that some things will happen for odd reasons), i have completed the game. its not that its hard, its just that it took longer with the speed trick. this movie is definitely not for anyone who doesn't know metal gear. dont expect me to walk through walls or do any other awesome tricks over and over like bisqwit can. i suggest you watch it, keeping in mind that games are intended for different audiences.
NOTES:
after the tank battle, when i take out a few mines, it looks as though the game skips. i have no idea what that is. it happened when recording as well, so it may just be from taking out the mines.
i utilize the slow down to the best of my ability, learning late in the game i do not need the menu to load to move the arrows (by about half a second).
i also seem to take a bit more damage this time in one form or another (just to get through things quicker). its still a combo of killing, stunning and avoiding... so dont expect anything to be a set pattern... EVER.
when i contact jennifer AFTER the arnold battle, it stays black for a while with no sound. DONT worry. everythings fine, the game just needs time (its like its playing the transciever but not...it also seems to have wasted a moment or so...but i could tell no difference between waiting for the sound and not).
bisqwit, i do hope you enjoy this one better. dont let the rerecord count fool you... i put everything into this.

Constructive criticism: 1: You get machine gun, yet you never seem to use it? Why? It is in the room after silencer, and I don't think you need silencer either. 2: You end the game with too many rockets and other ammo (1 box too much?) 3: You end the game with 1 ration too much I honestly believe you can push this below 30, and then maybe some more, even down to 28. Otherwise, nice run, apart from some small pauses and some movement where you moved too far in a direction and had to move back slightly to hit a door.

1: You get machine gun, yet you never seem to use it? Why? It is in the room after silencer, and I don't think you need silencer either. never got the machine gun, i got the hand gun. if you mean the grenade launcher, its necessary to beat the bulltank in building 2 (i used it). the silencer is still a big question. one, it may alert guards too early and make me use unnecessary ammunition. two, i was low on life at the beginning and afraid of risking a ration because there are times when you get hit regardless of what you do (in any way, shape or form). 2: You end the game with too many rockets and other ammo (1 box too much?) 1 box of rockets at rank 4 in equal to 30 rockets. that i cannot help. 3: You end the game with 1 ration too much i thought about that. it looks like i could have made a mistake. however, the time before, i had to use a ration on the heat panel before coward duck. this is where it all stems from. i agree in seeing the small stops. it didnt seem to happen during recording, but i saw them in playback. as far as pushing it to below 28, that'd require using rations a lot more. i can see this only done if i use death as a shortcut as well and just run through enemies all the time. and placement problems for doors happened. yes...i cant think of specifics, but i did have some trouble during the runs (scorpion desert most notably) with placement. otherwise, thanks for the criticism! (sorry if that sounded sarcastic, its not meant to).

O. That was grenade launcher, they all look the same to me :P And 1 ammo box gives you 30 rockets? Thats nice :D How would your run look if you used deaths for shortcuts? Would it save backtracking (going back where you came from)?

I don't know enough about this game to judge how good the movie was, but this game seems extremely boring so I voted no. Besides the game being boring, I also noticed some inaccuracies that could be fixed by playing at a slower speed and by re-recording much, much more often. 239 re-records isn't nearly enough for a movie of this length. Phil's 25:29 LoZ movie had 38433 re-records. This game doesn't look quite as complicated as LoZ, but I'd say that anything under 5000 is definitely way too little.

How would your run look if you used deaths for shortcuts? Would it save backtracking (going back where you came from)? its at the bridge, coming back from the twin shots (i dont kill them, just run through). it'd basically save me from coming back down the elevator (as ur starting point is then the 1st floor of the elevator). theres some backtracking saved, but its not like i pass through an area where i already got items, just rooms with enemies. still, i wonder if it'd be accepted on those basis. unfortunately, im now working on the one for nintendo. so im not gonna get back to this one for at least a day or so. i will continue to try and clarify things or point things out for anyone.

Perhaps your perspective might be different if you had memories of standing by each door, cycling through keys one by one, or moving in elaborate patterns to avoid both guards and bosses, or wandering around for hours trying to find where to go next; by comparison, Slashteryphen's run seems positively blazing (and I enjoyed seeing Snake's running practically under some of the guard's noses without them noticing.)

Ah, now that's another matter. I'll agree that there are still corrections to be made, but LoZ is a little more complicated of a game, with a lot more random factors to take into account when re-recording. Part of the reason for such a low rerecord count may be because there's not so much of a need for it, in this case. In any case, I vote "yes".

I agree about the inaccuracies, which is why I don't think this is worth publishing yet. But, Michael, I just wanted to say that Metal Gear is very probably the most popular NES game not featured on this site yet. Viewer's experiences are highly common, and a great many would appreciate a quality video of this game. -Josh

ok...this might just be the sleepy side of my talking at the moment, but would someone mind sighting ONE inaccuracy specifically. you've all gone on and on about these. just sight specifically where it is and what the problem was with it. thats all im asking. everyone talks about them but no ones really sited specific ones.

thanks. i found some new tricks when i just did whats gonna end up being a REJECTED submission to nintendorecords (i used death as a shortcut before checking the web page... ****). oh well, get it done tomorrow at some point i suppose.

I love it - and personally, I don't understand why people think Metal Gear makes a boring movie. I suppose if you've never played the game you could think that, but as stated, you've probably never stood behind a closed door inanely selecting your card-keys one by one to just discover a box of ammo. This could use improvement, but I loved watching it. Do you need the flashlight? Also, I heard something about the glove - necessary?

do you mean for the one i did WITHOUT using the Super Computer Glitch? if so... the Flashlight i may not have needed as i could try and memorize exact movement on the darkrooms (or just have a duplicate emulator up at the same time to help me or just take screen shots for reference). but either way, thatd be one weird little thing... watching me move in the dark for 5 screens, avoiding pits you can't even see. hahaha. the glove...ok, heres the deal... i went through the entire game right before this testing out all the things id need for that run. when i came to the walls for firetrooper and others in the building (where punching walls is necessary) nothing would happen. id punch and punch and punch and still nothing. so its going to be my little conclusion (despite what EVERYONE else says), that the glove IS needed. i know, its not suppose to, but for some reason it always is for me.

the silencer isnt necessary. i need to redo the nintendo one (odd how i decided to combine that with the nintendo one), then ill redo this one if its still not enough. actually... i want this:

Yeah, I saw that, afterwards... It seems like they actually know what they are talking about. They call them time attacks (And wasn't that word invented by Morimoto?) and mension "emulated runs" in their info.

'Time Attack' has been the name for time trial mode in Sonic games since Sonic CD (1993). I'm not aware of any earlier uses.
