Seeing as how this forum has been set up, I'd like to know how much longer until blip's modified SNES9X with rerecording capabilities is available for a final release. There's quite a few SNES games I'd be more than interested in making runs for.
I hope that whatever SNES re-recording emulators get released either have shift as the pause button or let you choose what button pause is. It's really annoying how ZSNES has escape as the pause button and you can't change it, so if they keep it like that it would make it much harder to make speed run videos.

why is esc so bad? i think it's easy key to press cause it's detached from the rest you can punch the key fast without looking at the keyboard and u know u won't miss it heh
Shift is best because it's right next to the arrow keys, but you have to move your hands to press escape. How would a speed run look if the character stopped moving every time the person pressed pause?
but not everyone uses the arrow keys for movements. I personally use A,S,W,D instead.
If you savestate before you pause there won't be any problems. Just load state after you resume.

Escape is still far away. It's best if you can choose what pause is so you aren't forced to use controls that you don't like.

What if you pause and then switch save states?

Zsnes allows you to rebind most interface keys to whereever you wish, including gamepad buttons. If you have a controller with a suitably high number of buttons and axes (personally, I use a PS2 pad) you can bind savestate handling, slowdown toggling and such to your ancillary buttons. Also, although pause is not among the bindable functions, you can do a less-pretty-yet-still-effective pause by simply holding down the load state button.
haha, rerecording counts would go through the roof! you "pause" it for 5 seconds, you add 50 re-records to your movie.

Well.. "final" is relative... as bugs are being SQUASHED ... If anyone wants the Snes9x rerecord "public beta" I can setup a host for it, etc.
Personally I think all this is great, especially since most SNES games are MUCH longer than NES games and so a recording would suffice for awesome cost-benefit value.
***NOTE: Then again, should videos be created for these SNES games... would it be prudent for the developers working on rerecord on ZSNES or SNes9x to check out better movie recording capability while the code is being hacked out as-we-speak?? (just my $0.02)
I thank Blip and Nach for continuation of awesome efforts for expanding the realm of possiblities. :)

No need for anyone to go wild about hosting a special Snes9x.
We plan on releasing an Snes9x shortly, with whatever stuff Blip and Bisqwit whip up. Of course in addition to other stuff we're working on ;)

Actually, you can currently rerecord with ZSNES, it's just not as smooth as some may like. Anyone familiar with ZSNES's rewind button? Apparently it works while recording too ;)

ooooooo i think i get it... zsnes saves a temporary state every 2 seconds or so, and the rewind button simply loads it. but on my tests it only "rewinded" 13 times in a row (maybe 12, i didn't count that hard lol). it's a tool that is maybe BETTER for rerecording than save/load buttons, cause it does 2 things at once. gotta test it.

hmmm it doesn't go back on the movie record, so it doesn't work. also, the slowdown key has to remain pressed so you can get slowdown effect, wich sucks for recording.

I just dowloaded the ZSNES from that page and I couldn't figure out how to get the re-recording to work. When I load a save state it just stops recording just like in version 1.36.
