So, which teams are going to be in the final? So many big names have fallen out. :|
Judging from how things are going, I could make predictions, but then they'd all be wrong.
Haha, sorry for jinxing the hexa, guys. Good luck on Qatar!
Brazil was absolute shit today. Last time I saw them playing any good was ~2007.
Sad to see no more South Americans left, but France and Belgium were the better teams today.
Yeah, there's a saying in medicine along the lines: "If you hear hooves, think of horses rather than zebras."
I'm still hoping for Belgium to reach the final. Since Switzerland is out, I hope for Russia or Croatia from the other side of the bracket.
At least England exceeded everyone's expectations. They're mostly not a shit team now.
And Argentina can now say they only lost against the two finalists! Yay...
(By the way, Argentina has never lost in a semi-final: 5 played, 5 won. :P)
And we'll have a England v Belgium again, yay.
:D
Player wise the England team wasn't as strong as it was during the 02-04 period, but the players played much better as a team compared to the stars of the past who thought the team should revolve around them. Both Croatia and England have over achieved this World Cup as a result of how the draw for the knockout stages have played out.
Despite the slow start France have had. They've clearly been a step above everyone else in this tournament. They were unlucky not to win the Euro's as a result of Portugal being even more fluky than Greece was in 04. They've dispatched superior opposition to Croatia in convincing fashion to get to the final. Short of a backs to the wall performance and dragging the game into a penalty shootout I don't see any realistic way Croatia will win the final.
I disagree. The scary thing from France's perspective is that Croatia have reached the final while playing well below their best (helped, admittedly, by the relatively soft opposition they have faced in previous rounds). If they turn it on in the final like they did against Argentina, France might be in trouble. France are still favourites but Croatia won't be pushovers.
As for England, I think you do the players a disservice. They aren't just a bunch of plucky underdogs like the stereotype - they are very good individual players (who also play well as a team). Most people didn't predict England would get this far, but in honesty they shouldn't have been surprised - England's performances in youth tournaments over the past few years have been very good, culminating in victory in the Under-20 World Cup last year. We are now seeing that talent, that the FA has nurtured for years in its intensive youth training programme, finally breaking into the main team. This is a side that has age on its side, and will only get better. Bring on 2022!
For comparison's sake, Argentina won the Under-20 World Cup 5 times (out of 7) from 1995 to 2007. They also won the Olympics gold medal in football (which is Under-23) in 2004 and 2008.
Our main team hasn't won anything since 1993.
France is obviously the favorite, but I'm really hoping that Croatia wins. So I bet and cheer: 2x1 in the regular time. They can't handle yet another extra time.
It's the single most anti sportsmanship competition and I prefer to just keep playing it myself with friends. It's not that France wasn't slightly better, but I can't stand this kind of fraud anymore and pretend it's normal.

Watch Women's Soccer then cause there's the sportsmanship.
Also get stuffed. There was sportsmanship in all this in their games.
During Australia v France the ball was kicked out for the other team to give the ball back to the other possession.
If you want to talk about anti:
The player that "didn't know" he was being sub'd off comes to mind.
And the other player who was taking the scenic route before being carried off by Ronaldo grabbed him and got him off the field faster.
And both Neymar and Mbappé's existence.
Hey look, time killing.
Don't globalize the term "anti-sportsmanship" cause the team you didn't want to win won.
Or
Don't watch a shit sport to begin with.

I think the use of VAR in this cup has been mostly positive. It still did not get rid of referee mistakes, but at least it could catch the most blatant situations. After VAR, infamous cases like the Hand of God should be past now. Anyway, congrats to France for winning.
It turns out to be another right prediction, but I really feel Croatia has played extremely well in this World Cup. That penalty is really devastating for Croatia. They almost controlled the game before that.
Recent projects: SMB warpless TAS (2018), SMB warpless walkathon (2019), SMB something never done before (2019), Extra Mario Bros. (best ending) (2020).
I don't see how France were unsporting. It's not their fault they were awarded a questionable penalty. What are they supposed to do, deliberately miss it?
Overall, maybe Croatia were the better team in this particular match, but France have been the best team over the whole tournament and are deserved champions.
Croatia played the worst possible match they could play. They made all the same mistakes Argentina did, except they could have prevented them this time if they had watched that match first.
France was an awful team (almost as bad as Spain in 2010), but they're the champions and that's what everyone will ever care about. In a few weeks, no one will remember that Brazil was the best team or what a bunch of nice people the Japanese were.
This is how you win a cup when you're not Germany or Brazil.
Why do you even come to a thread about a shit sport? 5000 posts on these forums and 5 million messages on Discord and other crap... We don't need to hear your opinions on everything, especially if it's about something you don't care about.
Congrats to France for winning the World Cup. Croatia played well in the tournament for the most part but was unable to pull it off in the final.
I'm a bit puzzled by the reactions in this thread though. This site is supposed to be tasvideos.org, not some crazy soccer board.
I didn't even know this was a thing. How do these players not know the rules?
If you're passionate about something, you're always going to look crazy to anybody else doesn't share your passion. What reactions did you find crazy, by the way?
There are at least 5 million rules, changing all the time.
This whole thing started (IIRC) with a viral post showing a picture of Portugal leaving a single player inside the field after scoring a goal, otherwise Spain could have resumed the game without waiting for all of them to end the celebration and come back. This rule is obviously fake, but it appeared everywhere... Then Panama and England tried to apply it.
For what it's worth, one of our 1986 champions told the story about how they trained for the celebrations: always leaving one player in the middle of the field protecting the ball, to prevent the other team from resuming the game.
So, this probably was legal at some point in the past.

Take a breather. Read who I was writing to. Read into the fact that the person is ranting. Read into the fact that I mentioned watch the women's soccer if you're going to be shitting up a storm cause they hate.
You got that down now? Good.
Now. Explain the point you were attempting to make when you were not using your head like you should've been and instead just ranted cause you decided to skim read. That was a poor personal attack.

Maybe it's because you're Canadian.
To put it into context, our soccer league here has matches pretty much every Wednesday and Sunday. When I was in school, every Monday and Thursday the subject was about what the results of the match on the day before were, how well the players did, what the coach should have done, and how the referee sucked. It was so much that sometimes the teacher had to threaten to expel people from the class so that they stopped talking about it.
Every four years it's the same thing. The media keeps hyping up the cup saying we are going to win it, and when the cup starts, everyone only talks about it. Some weeks ago I was swimming at the gym and some 50 year-old ladies who were doing hydrogymnastics were discussing Neymar's playstyle! The days when Brazil plays are effectively holidays, because even government services shut down to watch it. Hell, when people were protesting against the government some time ago, they went to the streets wearing the jerseys of the national football team. To most people, the national soccer team is the highest symbol of national identity. The FIFA has more countries than the UN. If you someday figure out why people take this game so seriously, tell me, I'd like to know :P

The reason that people might eventually "shit up a storm" is because you're expressing yourself with total disregard for the people your message is destined to, so quite frankly, there's very little use of it.
I agree with you that football is full of problems and outright corruption and is not a sport for everyone, but no one is in position to tell other people what to do on their free time, and the mere fact that you sound aggressive by saying it's a "shit sport" is enough reason to not bother to read it in detail.
