That's just it. A lot of us like when the player uses "WTF" tactics to win faster, even if it means whining "Oh I can't see where the walls are" or "Oh that could have been 'no-death'".

IMO.... Some games are entertaining if done As fast as possible. (Like Megaman/Rockman).
But when i do my Holy diver, I will do a full Non-hit run. while taking a hit may improve it by a few frames, it wouldn't be as impressive. If you have ever played the game, it seems impossible to not take a hit.
Fraction of a second? No. Genisto/Acmlm go into dungeons at least four times, I recall torches are one-use each (and besides the torch hardly provides much viewing range), and Radiant isn't learned until level 9. I have a better idea that could maybe satisfy Dr. Morbis or anyone curious about the dungeon paths.
Genisto or Acmlm: When making your movies did you use a Game Genie code or some sort of patch code that turns on Radiant (or possibly gives a full viewport beyond Radiant) without affecting the timing? If so, please post that code. We could even go as far as encoding an alternate version of the AVI with the code turned on.

There may be an emulator option - in SNES9x, I turned off transparency (the '9' key) to make a dark level light. But I don't think it needs a seperate AVI, myself.
Edit: Might as well answer the forum topic question. To me, it's usually speed, but it depends on the goals of the run. The biggest example I've experienced is in the Super Demo World runs I've worked on - for the short, 15-exit run, speed was of primary importance, including reducing lag, etc. at the cost of some possible entertainment. Now in the 120-exit run (which is over 2 hours), I realized that entertainment can really make a long run, well, better. The same ideas were used for the Super Mario World warpful and 100% runs.
As FODA said, just don't make it look slower.

About Dragon Warrior. I just found myself a code enabling Radiant, but of course, it change the random. I tried it in my last version: the code work well, but I got a battle at frame 55114 (at the end of the last dungeon) the random begin to change at frame 54662.
To enable the effect of Radiant:
Goto the Cheats option
Put 00D0 in the address field
Put 007 in the Value field
Push Add then Close
If there is a + in the Cheats field: the code will work
