My suggestion would be to get Super Mario All-Stars Plus Super Mario World and make a run of all five games in a row. Yup. also don't forget the edit button

To answer the question. No, we don't need a run of SMB1 with All Stars. But, we want a warpless run of SMB2j (aka. Lost Levels). Do that, if you want. But don't come short in quality :)

Is there a cartridge with all five games? I got SMAS but it only includes SMB1-3 + Lost Levels. Or + Doki doki panic depending on how you see it. Oh well, those 4 games anyway. Also, nice new avatar there Bisqwit. First thread I see it in.

Doki Doki Panic is the game which SMB2 "Mario Madness" was based on. I don't consider SMB2 USA to be the same as Doki Doki Panic, because even though the levels are the same, and the number of characters is the same, and most monsters are the same, there are some big differences too. Greater differences than between the real SMB2 (SMB2j) and Lost Levels. Avatar.. yeah, let's see how quickly I revert this time. :P

Aha. I've always learned that Doki Doki Panic was the same as the USA SMB2, perhaps with changed characters. I haven't played Doki Doki myself though but I trust your word on that one.

They're mostly similar, but in Doki Doki Panic there is less animation, characters are tracked separately (no switching characters to play some stage, then switching back - all of them start at the beginning), and you can save your progress. There are also a few other graphics and music changes, and I think one boss change.

since that you are new here. I'll give you a head-up.. PLEASE read FAQ (see blue text /\up there on the top/\). I'm not saying that you are doing something wrong, but I'm just letting you know that it has nearly everything you want/need to know relate with emu/rerecording. -_^ oh by the way, frame advance rocks, mess around with frame advance feature and you might get a chance to find new trick/glitch with it. I dont know which are you doing tho, assuming it's Lost World in SMAS since its in SNES section?

Maybe someone should find out which of those (from all the mario tricks pages) affect the SNES version, as extra information that maybe someone will use.

If you are going to time attack mario bros lost levels full run, you should do it on the original nes. It does not make sense to me to work on a remake if the original is just as available. Possibly I have overlooked something here, does anyone know of any advantages of the snes version for a tool assisted run? For whichever you choose, I wish you best of luck on your first run. Lost levels is probably my favorite mario game actually, coincidently I played it on the snes (because that is what system I have).

Yes; the last of the levels can only be accessed on the original by playing through the rest of the game 8 times (!) (edit: ok, not necessarily in a row for normal play), whereas you can go through all of the levels in one run from the start on the SNES version. A version of smb2j hacked to not have that silly requirement is accepted, but that is still a hack so I'm not really sure which one would be preferred.

The SNES version of SMB1/Lost Levels is likely immune to most (if not all) of the existing glitches, except for possibly wall jumping. It does, however, have an additional glitch of its own - if you try to smash through a brick as Big Mario you will NOT bounce back down afterwards, but instead continue upward at a reduced velocity - enough to take you about 1/4-1/2 into the empty space and clip your head against the next block in front of you. In the NES version, this only happens if an enemy was walking on top of the block at the time you hit it.

Well that is a good reason, and man that is a silly requirement, that game was hard enough as it is, since I played in the snes version I could and did die alot, I would have not gotten through this game without saves, let alone 8 times wtf. So ignore me I obviously don't know anything about this game, and good luck on your run.
