This project is meant to complete Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii, the best hack of NSMBW made by NewerTeam, as fast as possible. The movies in this post are all "obsolete", which means that I have already made a movie faster than these ones. If I cannot find anymore improvement in a movie, the movie will be submitted. If you have any suggestions for improving the run, please drop them below to have your name included in the advising credits. I'll really appreciate it:) If you attempt to stop this project or tell me I'll never make it, go a head and do so, and your comments will be ignored. The fact is I'll keep improving until it is good enough to be published, unless I'm dead. If it takes twenty years, forty years or sixty years, that's how long I'll work on it for. Thank you for supporting this project. All the movies in this project is made with Dolphin 5.0 Stable Release. The game version is Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii USA 1.11. To play the movie on Dolphin, Dolphin's Dual Core and Idle Skipping should be off.

Please give any suggestions you have after watching. If you feel like the movie has to be watched with frame advance, please download the dtm movie file. Thank you very much.

I felt like writing a new chapter of my guide I mentioned earlier: http://tasvideos.org/TasingGuide/TASArt.html#Perfection
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

These videos used the 1.0 version of this game. The version used in this TAS is 1.11, which fixed a lot of bugs but includes changes in level designs like in 8-Tower 1 that helps save time. After all, the TAS is still 12 minutes faster.

Dolphin has matured a lot since Soig's NSMB Wii run was published a year ago. Have you thought about trying to improve that one? I'm sure you can learn a lot from it and maybe save some frames with a more stable Dolphin.

Seconding this. Even if the closest you can get is matching Soig's time, you'll have learned a lot about how to optimize NSMB mechanics in the mean time.

New "obsolete" movie 1:33:16.25 No encode/movie (I'm going to have tons of obsolete movies, and I can't upload them all) Obsoleted by a faster route found in 1-Tower and penguin suit momentum problem. Predicted full movie length 1:33:12

New "obsolete" movie 1:33:15.53 This movie is improved by a new strategy found in the final fight that saves a little less than one second, so I only redid the Bowser fight but not any other part, so it is still "obsolete". I'm doing a movie right now that uses the new technique in 1-Tower and a new way to save time in 8-Tower 2 that I just found.

A series of acceleration and power-up usage improvements are found, a huge theoretical improvement is estimated at about 1:32:40. I'll start working on the run tonight and I'll test more possible improvements until I can't find any.

Which version are you using? I wonder what's new in 1.2.0. Rvlution.net is currently down.

Yeah, I'm using the newest version.
Okay, so when you do corner boosting, do you jump pass the object or actually hit it?

About 7 frame save found in your 1-1 movie. You missed a 4 frames save by forgetting to boost from the pipe at the end, and you missed 1 frame on the pipe entrance. You also could have maintained the goomba boost before the checkpoint a bit longer, since I was able to touch the top of the ckecpoint flag and you only touched the middle, missing 1-2 frames. Yeah... I can't do anything with this information when your dumping method is very inconsistent in playback Unknown. You gain time by some dump issue, then lose time up ahead for the same dump issue. Your transitions screens are too fast. So there's definitely something up with your settings on that front.

Okay, so you never actually dug into this hack. you press A rapidly (in this case, turbo) to skip a part of the opening cutscene.

Don't assume stuff when you don't know what I was on about. I was on about your work on the world, both of your works and I'm going to restate. The way you encoded yours was dumped poorly, and seems like the settings on your encode were not correct as you have slight advantages on points that should be equal as your transitions are too fast The fade in and out with Mario's head to be specific.

Might be, since my Wii is pretty old, but I was still able to save time INSIDE THE LEVEL.
