You know that before actually making a TAS, you should preferably know the game from top to bottom. So I'm gonna make this short since I don't have much time to post this message before I have to do something important. While trying to actually beat a game with no walkthrough, sometimes you get stuck. I know there's ways you can recruit people to co-TAS a game with you. But is there a way on the site to get people to help you actually beat the game to the point you want it to be beaten first, or to help you explore all the various aspects of it and glitchhunt, etc.? Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer [DS], a dog training simulator game for the DS, was the crap game I was looking at recently. It looks like good and easy TAS material, but I can't figure out how to get perfect scores on all of the levels. Some I'm stuck on. Any way to get people to help with that? Plus with beating that LEGO Friends [DS] game 100% of the way through. I talked a lot about that on IRC.

Well, everyone's doing this on their own time, and we don't have a designated role of "TASer adjunct" or what have you, so the best way to get help with a game is to either know someone who would be interested (which kind of bites itself in the tail if you need to put your plan out there first) or post a thread with a couple WIPs and documentation (the more you found and the better you present that info the better) or ask someone of the RTA/unassisted community (SRL, SDA) via one of their channels whether someone has experience with or interest in the game/run. The 2nd way is probably the most solid and a good thing to do either way. If you get stuck and can break down your specific problem far enough that someone would be willing to take up that now hopefully relatively small task (including help with scripting, system internals or mathematical optimization), chances are someone will notice and assist. And of course do your own research as there might be a detailed walkthrough on sites like GameFAQ or similar.

Dog Whisperer and LEGO Friends are too unpopular and unknown even to have full walkthroughs, much less non-TAS speedruns, and even more less TASes. Which WOULD be perfect for me, if I could actually beat them 100%, because they'd be great TAS material. That's the only issue; I don't think anyone on earth really has experience with these games. I've looked just about everywhere top to bottom for a full and complete walkthrough and all I found was 1 partial walkthrough with 12 parts of LEGO Friends, and a gameplay video for Dog Whisperer. So what to do then?

Post a thread with everything you found and the specific problem you have. The more specific, the more likely you are to find help. Yes, this costs time and seems like unnecessary overhead (esp. if no-one comes forward) but it might well be worth it.

If it helps, you can also use cheats during the game; just don't submit a run that does so to this site. For some games, it may be possible to find saves from sites that people have uploaded. For certain obscure games however, you might either have to beat it yourself, or use cheats (made by yourself) to help get through the game.
