There are no normal rabbits in the Korean Version since there is no rec room, but there are glowing rabbits spawning randomly after getting 50 stars. But with the new glitch used this cannot be faster

1. Is there even a completionist category of sorts for unlocking all minigames? 2. Does the glowing rabbits appear even if you never caught a single normal one on other versions?

1. No, as the minigames unlocked are unlocked forever, independent of save files. 2. Yes, as long as you've talked to Toad to make the rabbits appear, the glowing rabbits will start appearing when you reach 50 stars.

Implemented the Y run improvement in the characters room to any%. 76 frames improved, 432 rerecords. What else is there to implement? Has the star eating thing been routed at all for any% yet…? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SK2XVwZM5k I abused the fact that crouching (pressing R) retains Y run speed for a decent amount of time without depleting the Y run timer to do a really late longjump that lost 0 frames and kept 25 frames (30 total) of the Y run. Then I had to do a jump exiting the minigames room to preserve the Y run because crouching doesn’t let you open the door, and jumping seemed to be the fastest way. I retained exactly enough Y run to run out of it as I touched Mario’s door, but I probably could’ve run out a few frames earlier without losing time. To door: +20 frames To Toad: −40 frames To door: −26 frames To Mario: −30 frames Total: −76 frames saved Edit: ↓ Yes, that.

It would be cool to do Ron hacks of this game. Sad we can as tasvidfeos doesn't allow it :(

It's allowed as long as it changes a substantial part of the game, and not just like a graphic hack.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

For the new Any% TAS, the route would be 8-Coin Puzzle with 15 Pieces, Shining Atop the Pyramid, and then In the Talons of the Big Bird. On the third star the star carrying glitch would be used to spit the star into the loading zone and collect it at the same time, and then you would exit course. (Like this, but a lot faster: https://twitter.com/Really_Tall/status/728640763660226560) Ideally the star would be spat out directly towards the loading zone when you land from twirling, but I'm not sure if that's possible in practice. You will probably need to do a small jump backwards and then spit out the star to avoid instantly collecting it. Bear in mind this also skips the 3 star text, so it saves time from that as well. These notes I made about spitting out stars should be useful when optimising:
Really_Tall wrote:
I also figured out how to make a star move slowly when you spit it out: jump, then hold forward two frames, neutral two frames, then hold back. This will make your speed go up to a maximum of -108108 instead of 108108, which halves the speed that the star travels at. To get the slowest star it is also best to press A before you hit the ground, so you spit the star out exactly as you touch the ground, losing no speed from sliding along the ground. Spitting out the star any earlier will cause it to be permanently intangible, and fly upwards. Using these strategies, on flat ground, I managed to get a star to move at a speed of 40000: https://youtu.be/ysYieuWI4-w I also tested what the speed you need to not instantly collect the star is, and it seems to be about -60400. -60482 worked, but -60299 did not. This is assuming you spit out the star as you touch the ground so you lose the least speed. The star traveled at a speed of 70000 when doing this: https://youtu.be/U5kh0aA2H5U Spitting out the star with a speed of 60480 made it travel at 140000 speed, which is how I know the speed is halved when it is a negative value. These observations should be very helpful when optimising the star cancels in SSL and SL in a TAS.
Additionally, ISceptul was working on an potential improvement for the TAS: using the pillar glitch in the JRB room to get OoB, instead of the rabbit, and navigating to the key door from there. It's definitely possible, just the question is whether it's faster or not. It should certainly be looked into. Whether it is or isn't faster, using superspeed while doing Bowser 2 skip also has a chance to save time, as you stop at least once when going through the door, and multiple times if the rabbit strat is faster. Using the same logic, superspeed may also save time during 50 Star Door Skip.

Could do. Is there a way to do this with the rabbits? I know if you eat a rabbit and land in the water and make it so yoshi slides after 1 frame of spitting out the rabbit. He will swim around fuck off Siri

And when you surface and stand on land you will continue to carry your momentum you had. And unfortunately it kinda softlocks you, you can reset the game and pause and quit. But not anything else.

I finally finished writing the 150 star TAS route, not too late ! It might change if we find some new improvements, but here you have it. I must just explain that we do BOB in 2 trips since we've timed and it's faster to do Behind The Chain Chomp's Gate as Luigi, because the improvement is more than doing the castle movement, it is an improvement of 3 seconds if I'm not wrong https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZQYTkPwaL9AXUFAvYo9ulFZ1e8MpDmJwATpNOhXMZas/pubhtml

What’s the pillar glitch? If the 50 stars door skip could be done without rabbit, then I could see it being useful.

No idea what you’re talking about here. Bowser 2 isn’t even skipped, it’s just ignored.

The only other viable alternative is doing Shining Atop the Pyramid and doing the star cancel glitch (skipping 1 star text), collecting Inside the Ancient Pyramid by climbing all the way up, and then doing In the Talons of the Big Bird and the star cancel, and exiting course. Me and Sharkey both thought that an extra star cancel and climbing all the way up the inside of the pyramid would be slower than LLL reds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0b5j2XF3AA This can be done on both the left and right pillars next to the painting. Not the 50 Star Door Skip, but Bowser 2 Skip/upstairs early/2nd key door skip/whatever you want to call it. Instead of landing in the fish tank like in the video, you can land on the seam of the fish tank and from there navigate to the loading zone behind the key door. Unsure if this is faster than using the rabbit.

Bowser 2 Skip/upstairs early/2nd key door skip/whatever you want to call it. The thing in the JRB room :P Getting superspeed after leaving the character changing room may be faster, especially if the pillar glitch is not faster, as your speed will be set to 0 more times: going through the JRB door and after clipping with the rabbit.

If you use superspeed after going through the small door at the top of the spiral stairs I think it could save time, by giving you instant acceleration after clipping with the rabbit. Getting it any earlier would cause it to just run out on the spiral stairs.

It sounds like such a complete waste to do the trick just to do “Exit course”. I guess I wasn’t thinking of the fact that you normally have to re-enter just to do Exit course, though…

I knew it was possible to get inside the fish tank somehow, but I never could find a video showing how to do it. Cool. My 50 stars door comment meant that “we wouldn’t need rabbits anymore, then”.

That’s Bowser 1. Yeah, another place where it would need testing.

I don’t think that’d be enough to save time, but it’s still something that needs testing.

It is a little odd to think about, but it will definitely save time. My attempt at it (which can be greatly improved) basically ties the current TAS. I thought it was about 2 seconds slower, but I forgot to account for the time saved from skipping the 3 star text. Depending on exactly how effiiciently the trick can be done, I think it will save between 1 and 5 seconds.

Moat Skip is Bowser 1 Skip, surely? Bowser 1 = BitDW, Bowser 2 = BitFS.

Ah, right… I’m trying to improve the characters room Y run further by having some leftover (ideally I think 3f, but 2 could be good enough) for Mario. I’ve already tested it saves roughly 25f as Mario to have Y run, but so far my best attempt at preserving it is 3f of it while losing 12 frames (jump before minigames room). Kinda annoys me I have to lose all those frames, I’m trying to figure out the best strategy right now. Optimized a jump towards Toad to lose 16 frames, maybe I can make it better than 12… // 14f // 12f I’m so barely away from saving 2 more frames… like pixels… Edit: Oh well, went with that. Only used 3f of Y run with Mario, had 6 leftover. To door: +20 frames To Toad: −28 frames To door: −26 frames To Mario: −30 frames To door: −36 frames Total: −100 frames saved Edit2: Lol goddamnit, why did I ever believe a test I made 10 hours ago. Jumping in the first room only loses 10 frames, so it’s 2 frames faster… that means no delayed LJ trick in the run. <_< 102 frames improvement, somehow took me 409 rerecords? OK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buqrMVppiAg Edit: Tested out unlocking Mario first but it’s slower. There isn’t enough space to JK anywhere, doing jumps loses like over 20 frames and even if you could run all the time it’d only save 18–20 frames, so it’s impossible to make faster.

After a lot of searching and testing slide physics, Really_Tall and me were able to get a time of 12"97 for the Princess Secret Slide ! In the video i added as a bonus the time of 13"00 for the box strat which is a little longer. Link to video

Sharkey saved 2f off of any% some days ago by improving the LJ into Mario’s painting. I tried improving the OoB clip but that glitch is so much fucking bullshit. Spent over 1,000 rerecords and my best result was a tie using the DPad. Fucking retarded. any% is 08:50.91 now. That’s a 00:01.74 cut from the published run. …Weird calculation, it should be 1.74. Edit: Slightly updated Lua, added Y run timer and KtQ speeds, maybe something else: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31373458496044164

TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

It is possible to do it with all walls that arent 180° It could most likely save time in TTM. Also with walls at that angle in BBH as in my video, it is TAS only because you need to redirect yourself at the right frame. And it has only been discovered like 1 month ago in the waterfall of HMC

I have made some changes to the 150 star route after noticing that WDW soaked silver stars are faster as Luigi. Also, the toad star in HMC room is faster to be done after completing a star in HMC instead of when entering the room first. Reordered THI to do the 80 star text box skip too. Changed BBH 100 + Reds to the 2nd trip as it's finally faster as Luigi. Edited SL 1st trip to be a tiny bit faster by choosing the stars that would more likely be faster as Luigi which also allows me to fill with the 80 star text box skip in THI. Here it is : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZQYTkPwaL9AXUFAvYo9ulFZ1e8MpDmJwATpNOhXMZas/pubhtml
