Okay, I'm no stranger to this classic game. In fact, I still own the CD of the game. But it seems to be scratched to hell and back, it'll be a pain to try to pull an ISO off the disc for emulation. There are ten professional BMX riders, plus at least 2 hidden ones. There are also equipment, tougher bikes, video clips, in-game cheats, and 2 hidden BMX guys to unlock. There are also plenty of tricks and combos to pull, so I believe entertainment is everything. Don't just pull 360's repeatedly and expect to have your submission(s) accepted just for that. How long would it take to:
  • Have every BMX rider in the game collect all 12 medals (3 from Greenville, 3 from Woodward Camp, 3 from Pro Tour, and 3 from Acclaim Max Games) - including Slim Jim Guy and Amish Boy?
  • Execute all tricks as provided in the game, plus each rider's special tricks?
  • Actually play the game to unlock movie clips, in-game cheats, the 2 hidden guys, and such?
  • Constantly combining speed and entertainment as you make your input?
For some odd reason, this isn't about Tony Hawk posing as the Monopoly man where the player has to buy skateboards, equipment, and skate parks (properties) just to progress. This game makes it easy to actually earn stuff - all it takes is your skill and your performance. Another thing I already know. There are certain glitches in the game I noticed. Greenville - Vail Trails: lining up the rider right up against the corn field, and then rotating the rider for an awkward landing; is likely to place the rider on the "top" of the corn field. Greenville - Backyard Pools:There is a section that has 2 to three signs on the roof. Lining up the rider might likely warp him up there. Another one is at a jacuzzi where the green riding mower is at. There is a certain spot on the lip of the jacuzzi where the rider can warp to a roof where there is only one window. Pro Tour - Eastwood: There is a brick wall where the Slim Jim banner is placed. It should be easy to slip right next to it - an awkward landing right beside the banner should warp the rider to a mysterious rooftop. I might try to re-arrange a glitch video about this again soon. I look forward to seeing a TAS chip being placed on Dave Mirra's shoulder, which to me can be a beautiful thing. :)

Link to video Because of the sad news of Dave Mirra, it seemed right to do one of my favorite games as a kid. Although that game is Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2, the same awesome music is in this game as well. Lemme know what you guys think of this test of the first level, its pretty quick, this is just doing the Any% round which is just the amateur challenges (then the competitions at the end). By The Way! Only UDLR controllers, no analog sticks yippeee........ -__- EDIT: Link to video Where do I go from here!? Should I follow the route for the 100% TAS, do hardcore challenges or do the Any% which is just amateur and pro challenges?

I'd like to see hardcore challenges too. Bigger playtime/load time ratio is also good for viewing pleasure.

Link to video Here's a part of level 2. The routes aren't too different it seems. And no one has done it for PSX for 100%. Loading Times are much longer in PSX than PC as shown in the video i've been watching for the 100% PC run. When he goes through the first level, he actually ends the run before finishing the final challenge (because its a super long grind) idk if thats because he can't balance or because the player/bike speed is too slow. So! I am going to do a 100% run where in the end, I will finish off the first level's hardcore challenge at the end, If someone in the future finds that its better to do it the previous way, so be it! (Or in the event I come back and find faster routes, which is entirely possible too).

Before you continue, is there a reason you are playing the normal version instead of the Maximum Remix one? It contains more levels and new tricks (at least the wallride). Depends if people want to see more levels, of course.

Just the first hardcore challenge? That would seem a bit arbitrary to me.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Maybe my sentences were confusing. Level 2 through End would be with hardcore challenges. When you finish off the last level (tour), you unlock the secret bike which makes the first level's hardcore challenges a lot easier. I will also check out Maximum Remix since the last few levels are pretty bogus. You go from doing lots of fun challenges to having to do competitions; and I don't know if its like Tony Hawk where you can end the run in like 5 secs to get a good score against computers.

In Maximum Remix at least the game follows a very Tony Hawk-esque progression. You start by doing missions in Dave Mirra's hometown (four missions total, just like in regular DMFB). There are three levels total you got to beat, then you move on to Greenville, which is where regular DMFB starts. After three levels you do the first challenge where you must reach at least second place (first place awards a better bike). Then three more levels and a challenge and so on till the end of the game. In Maximum Remix there are, just like in DMFB 3 sets of 4 challenges each: Amateur, Pro and Hardcore. You just have to beat the Amateur challenges in hometown to unlock the next level, starting from Greenville it changes to having to beat both Amateur and Pro. No matter the bike, all Amateur and Pro challenges should be completeable, but the hardcore challenges may be either impossible or impossibly difficult. I do not know if it is possible to keep enough speed for the 200ft sprocket slide at the end of Greenville - Vail Trails or if you can keep the balance up, even with TASing. The secret bike you unlock after completing the last challenge in first place also gives the player perfect balance control, so you can easily grind several hundred feet or keep a stall going forever. Not really useful for a TAS, I'd say. At the end of Maximum Remix, once all hardcore challenges are completed you unlock a challenge level in hometown. I do not know if this rewards anything (considering I've never beaten it myself ;p). My suggestion is to go with Maximum Remix, there's more levels until the challenge at the end of Greenville comes up and the wallride may be useful for some quick point collecting during stages. I also suggest beating the challenges in first place and get the better bikes until you get the bike before the secret one. Then go back and beat all the hardcore challenges.

I don't see why a TAS would ever need to upgrade bikes. I've done low% challenges in real time and have completed the whole game with the first bike. I'd be interested to see if this goes anywhere, I actually run this game RTA and have the fastest known time on Dreamcast. I didn't time it out, but it appeared to be faster than Playstation when I played it with FDS. Looking forward to the completion of this.
