Just a quick reply to let you know I'm done with the pyramid now, and more importantly I just found a glitch in the castle. You don't need the shell in the item box to get to the secret exit. I'll email you later with details about it jxq, I'll experiment some more now. This means there's no need to go back to the Desert Secret more than maybe once, for Water World 1a.

Another note is that there's another castle with the P-switch which you activate to make a door appear for the star world key exit, but you don't REALLY need the P-switch to do it, just walk under where the white arrow pointing up is and hit up. Whenever you get there, I don't remember which castle it was.

I'm having some trouble playing the movie and basically just opening the patched rom on the SNES9x. When I load the patched rom, there are some words I cannot read in yellow that show up for a second or 2, then they disappear and the rom never even starts. Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Also the rom when it is unpatched will load fine. Thanks

Yellow text means your checksum is bad; in other words your ROM wasn't patched right. Try starting over and doing exactly this: 1. Lunar Expand on an original SMW (U) ROM. 2. IPS patch the newly expanded ROM Play again. See if you get white text this time.

Should I just make an AVI?

That would be preferable, but don't do it if it's too much trouble, I can probably figure this out somehow. Also I am getting white text but it still desynches at the 2nd level, it seems to me like there is a longer than expected pause on the world map to enter the level.

...probably not, meaning I don't know what that is or how to use it. Could you explain please?

The replay config is at the screen when you first start the movie - things like WIP1 Timing, Fake Mute etc. Usually they are just set for me by the movie file when I watch a run. Unless I'm misunderstanding here...

Those settings come from the improved version of snes9x. If you're running an official based version, or my linux version (I had to rip apart the movie code, and that was the first thing to go) then that data is not available. MKV (Download link for demuxer if you need it. I recommend the Lite package) available via BT: http://dehacked.2y.net/BT/torrents/superdemoworld-walkthrough-star120-viper7.mkv.torrent

Heh, hardly. This may end up being the longest run on the site.

Although I realize that the run wasn't that serious, I figure that I should post some comments just in case anyone does try a much longer run. Water World 4 You go the long way around with both P-switches and the key. You only need the key. Holding an item underwater, if you hit down, then start rising as you hit an incline, you can pass right through it. Using this, you can go straight to the keyhole without any switches. Water Secret You fly up, grab the blue shell, then fall back down. It is easier to fly on top of the mushroom house then continue flying up to the blue shell. That saves all of the falling. Big Boo's Secret You don't need the gray P-switch to open the pipe. It is just a graphic. You can just go in and go straight down the pipe, even though you can't see it yet. Sky Castle Similarly here, the secret door does not require P-switch to become active. You can just go under the arrow and press up to go in. Desert Secret You can go to the right from desert secret on the map, so you don't have to go all of the way around. Secret Star World You should use the P-switch earlier to get through the blocks instead of breaking so many of them.

We're working on a full exit speedrun of this scubed, and all things you've mentioned will be used or considered. We're at Crystal Cavern 5 right now, and all your "tricks" so far have been used.

Hey ScubEd, you don't need to hit Enter just because you reached 40 characters. The lines will wrap around on their own.

Perhaps it was copy-pasted from notepad... or something.

Sorry, it's a vestigial habit from when I used to have an e-mail client that wouldn't automatically wrap. (I still occassionally get e-mails are like that.) I didn't use notepad, but I e-mailed the comments to myself as I watched the movie in segments. Not all messages do wrap properly, either. That is why, for example, slashdot automatically inserts a space every 70 characters. I haven't tried on this board. Well, I guess that I will try and see what happens. If not handled properly, the lines become unreadably long. Testing: Done. Hmm...I don't believe that this board does handle it properly. [Edited by Moderator: Don't abuse.]

But that's for a single word. When would you ever type a word that long?

just wondering, why don't you post any WIPs anymore? In the other thread I read that you're in Crystal Cavern already...
