Ok.... I should ask everyone.. if this would be a sweet/cool game to finish without getting hit/killing EVERY plane that appears. I would like to do it... but before i start, would you guys like to see it done? or do you have any pointers/tips?

Maybe I can't see so good, but I didn't see any videos on that page.
Anyway, a problem with trying to time attack a 194X game is that it is autoscrolling. That means you'll have to try to manufacture entertainment as the plane slowly putters through the sky. That won't be easy. As I recall, 1943 has no speed power-ups, just weapons.
Just a question- does anyone find this movie particularly entertaining?

All I know is that this movie was VERY fun to make. This run does NOT aim for fastest time. I think there are only a few factors that contribute to the framecount:
-Reducing lag
-Not picking up stat boosters
-Killing bosses as fast as possible
-Ending a level with low energy to reduce the countdown.
Aside from killing bosses as fast as possible, I don't care about fastest time.
Instead, this movie aims to:
-Destroy all enemies
-Miss no shots
-Always use the default weapon
-Take no damage
-Pick up all powerups dropped by the red planes
-Pick up all of the shootable secrets I know about/can find
-Move around in a smooth manner so as to be more entertaining.
I don't think I could actually submit this since it isn't really material for a published move, but I'll keep going until I get bored of it.

I liked it. Although it may not be such a great time attack, it could make a really interesting play around, similiar to MoriMoto's Gradius movie. Are you thinking about doing a full run of this game? If you keep up this quality I'm sure it will get published. Great job.

I think you should submit this when it's done (should you complete this movie) and let the other users be the judge of that. The purpose of all the movies on this site are for entertainment purpose, and if this movie is entertaining enough (and therefor gets enough YES votes) it should be submitted.
You don't have to aim for the fastest time to get a movie published. If it's entertaining enough and well made it's likely to get a lot of YES-votes. If you don't aim for the fastest time, that's just fine, just try to keep the entertainment level as high as your current WIP is :)
So, I'm agreeing with Kapow, give this a go, and submit it when it's done. If you were to publish this movie when it's done I would without doubt give it a YES vote if you keep up this quality. Oh, and please keep us updated in this thread by posting a new WIP now and then. :)

Looks pretty nice (lthough it most definitely wouldn't hit the Top 10 of speedruns ;) ).
To make the movie more interesting/entertaining you should try to evade those enemy bullets (or what ever they are) more closely.
I made a movie of this a while back.... but i got bad comments of people saying they didn't want a movie done of it. i went for 100% kill on the levels, and fastest time to kill the bosses.

I don't really see why it would get bad comments. Sure, with autoscrolling games it's not very impressive to see a movie that completes the game as fast as possible, but the playaround option is always available. Although 1943 might not get as impressive as Gradius in terms of playaround options, but I think it could be made really nice.
Anyway, as I've said, keep up the good work with this, CtrlAltDestroy. Even if it doesn't get published at least you can keep posting the movie in this thread.
I must note that this game requires a lot of effort to look entertaining. When I first started playing with this game, I tried playing 12% speed and re-recording whenever I missed a shot. I beat the first level, but when I watched the replay I found that it just looked awful. I started over, using smooth movements and much more foresight- and that's the current WIP.
Alright, I can do that.
I'd like to see that too. If it's a completed run, I bet it's about an hour and a half long!

Could you post your current WIP when you have time, CtrlAltDestroy? That would be great.
It was a long time ago since I last played this game, so my memory isn't as fresh about it as it used to be... So I checked up this game on Gamefaqs and found out that there are 24 (!) levels in total in this game. so your one and a half hour prediction isn't that far away, if each level takes up about the same time as level 1. That would make the total length to 72 minutes.
A question: You pick up a lot of upgrades on level 1. Could you tell me what all the upgrades you pick up do? For example, you pick up an upgrade that looks like a red shuriken or something, I have no idea what that is :)
I have a few tips too, you probably thought of all of them, but here they are anyway:
1. Try to move around as much as possible. Although your currently posted WIP is cool when the enemies show up, you could try to show off a little whenever there's a waiting period. I can understand that there isn't really much to do during that time, but I think that it would be more entertaining if you just flew around a little than standing still for a few seconds.
2. You could try flying around more in the upper part of the screen if possible. I know that you keep a lot in the lower section of the screen to be able to hit all the enemies that show up, but maybe you can be a little more in the upper part of the screen. It looks cooler if you just barely kill all the enemies with just one the absolutely last frame possible. Another upside with this is that you can fly closer to the enemies too, making you look more like a daredevil. Just as long as you can get 100% kills that is :) I believe frame advance could be helpful when doing this.
Besides this, just as Maza said, try to fly really close to bullets and stuff to show off.
Oh, don't go thinking that I didn't like your currently posted WIP because if this criticism, because I do think it looked really awesome :) Well, I hope this information helped out a little.
So far I finished level 3, same link.
The POW powerup, the cow, the pinwheel, and the oxygen tank all give different levels of energy. Since I never get hit, picking these up only serve to keep the "low energy" music from playing.
The keg of beer replenishes special weapon time. I never use special weapons, but I pick them up anyway.
The weird mountain-looking thing lets you upgrade your plane.
Good idea, I'll keep that in mind.
Another good idea. I've been trying to avoid killing all the enemies at the FIRST frame they appear, but just barely killing them before they disappear does look cool. I have 20+ more levels of this, so I'm slowly getting better as I learn what combos and techniques look the best.

Okay, just finished watching your new WIP, CtrlAltDestroy. It still looks great, so keep this up! :)
I really liked how you handled all the enemies that showed up around frame 29500. Very nice, you flew really close to the enemies' bullets, which looked really cool. You handled the boss on level 3 very quicly too :)
Just a question, how do you mostly record the movie? Do you use mostly frame advance or slowdown? I'm just curious about this. Seeing how fast you shot down the boss on level 3, I'm guessing you're using frame advance or very slow speed ;)
Besides that, I look forward to your next WIP.
I watched your WIP as well. Very nicely done. I'm looking forward to the next WIP post.

Hmm, I watched the movie in slow motion a few times around that frame now, and I think you're right, daniayaw. It looks like CtrlAltDestroy fires one shot too much on the boss plane. It was pretty hard to notice, so it's not a huge deal.
But since it is in the end of the movie, perhaps you should redo the last part of the boss battle and make sure that you don't miss that last shot, CtrlAltDestroy?
i have noticed that other too XD but i thought even more was my impression.. i havent rewatched to confirm so i wasnt sure XD
(sorry for any grammar errors -_- )

At frame 13580 of level 2, a shot sails off the top of the screen. I think I'll just redo the whole movie so far. I'll post a new WIP when I beat level 5.
