Is this the character John de Lancie was known for prior to MLP? So the things Discord does is actually a play on this.

Yeah, Lauren Faust was trying to explain the character while pitching the first two episodes of season 2. According to her, the executives didn't get the character so Faust had to use Q as an example. Then the executives suddenly understood the character and wanted to try getting John de Lancie to play the character.

The character of Q is best known for his role in Star Trek: The Next Generation, especially for pestering captain Picard, but he did make some appearances in the other spinoffs as well. This scene is just marvelous: Link to video

I have to be honest here. I had no idea Q was a Star Trek character until after discovering MLP:FiM. I blame the fact that I never really paid attention to anything Star Trek until within the past ten years, and even then I only ever watched the original series. I still haven't watched anything TNG yet. To be perfectly frank, I was always more into Tolkeinesque Fantasy anyway, so Star Trek doesn't appeal to me like it should. The only scifi I really follow is the Dune series and Douglas Adams' stuff. The extent of what I know about Star Wars is that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader and he did a bunch of bad things ultimately because he couldn't be with the woman he loved. Oh, and something about making a run within so many parsecs (I don't know or care how it works, it sounds cool). Either way, I now curse/bless/whatever you to hear John DeLancie's voice the next time you read anything that the Sorting Hat says in the Harry Potter series.

All this talk about, "I didn't know Q till Discord," reminds me of a funny thing that happened at the convention. A couple of the younger guys right behind us in the Delancie autograph line kept talking about this guy as though he were from the Spanis Inquisition. A guy who looked to be a little older than me dressed in a costume patterned after this cringeworthy scene spoke up with clear irritation in his voice, "Dude, that's supposed to be Q from Star Trek. You young people don't know anything, do you?"

Another interesting fact that John de Lancie played a role in Days of Our Lives as Eugene Bradford.

I... actually kind of enjoyed that episode. Thematically it felt like kind of a sequel episode to Suited for Success, without being a rehash of the plot. Even the song felt like a followup to Art of the Dress. Got very positively surprised by it.

In October, a Hearths Warming episode airs before a Nightmare Night episode? Weird.

Rarity investigates... If you take some of the scenes out of context, it almost looks like Rarity and RD are on a date.

This upcoming Thursday is the night of Nightmare Moon. Also, October 10 marks the 5 year anniversary of the show.

The season 5 finale will involve Starlight Glimmer travelling through time. Starlight would try to change the past. She could head to the Crystal Empire and steal Cadence's cutie mark, which causes Twilight Sparkle to fail her test and lose her wings. Or Starlight can steal Shining Armor's cutie mark the day before the wedding, which in turn, Queen Chrysalis will rule Equestria and Princess Celestia would die and be reborn a Changeling. The worst case scenario would be that Starlight would to the Everfree Forest the night that Nightmare Moon was born, then witness the battle. After Nightmare strikes Celestia down, Starlight runs into the castle and steal the Princess' cutie mark. So that even if she banishes her sister, she won't raise the sun anymore. Twilight should consult Dr. Hooves to stop the catastrophe.

@PikachuMan, I used to surround myself with spoilers but I have learned that it diminishes the fun and excitement too much. I would rather not want to know about any of the things that will happen in the finale, and I think so does anyone else here. Luckily I'm managing to resist reading your post so far. Here is some speculation from me: I hope that the main storyline is going to advance (you know, the chest castle map thing). Still can't get it out of my head that some ancient being has left those things behind for the future generation... At one point, holograms of the ancient defenders of Equestria might as well pop up before the main 6 to tell them what all the chest castle map thing was all about. I think that's not going to happen anytime soon though, since that's exactly what's driving the series forward in the first place. If anyone knew what the One Piece was, nobody would want to watch One Piece, right? Btw, the last 3 minutes of the latest Ep were really sweet - I want to see more of that.

I just thought she would travel to the past and inadvertently cause the things she was trying to prevent.

The next episode is a Cutie Mark Crusaders episode. I bet they will finally get their cutie marks.

You mean there are three of them already? Will they ever stop? Do people really care about those?

If Equestria Daily's poll is anything to go by, it appears the fandom at large has warmed up to it.

Many of these general plotlines are really common in all kinds of long-running TV shows (both live action and cartoons), and most often than not they tend to be really boring, or even cringeworthy. Yet, somehow, this show manages to make them interesting. A "babysitter" episode is really common, and almost always cringeworthy. Yet MLP:FiM's version of it was quite enjoyable and fun to watch. The basic premise in this "Brotherhooves Social" episode also sounds extremely cringeworthy, yet somehow it wasn't. They have this rare talent of making even stupid ideas work, somehow.

I know episodes with scrolling closed caption that appears in most of season 2, all of season, and a few from season 4. A glitch occurs during the opening. It happens between the lines "faithful and strong" and "sharing kindness". It shifts the line "a beautiful heart" down one line and reduces the lines displayed from 3 to 2 and causes the former two lines to overlap with each other. It was spread from episode to episode by copying and pasting the captions and scripted commands. The glitch was apparently fixed, but unfortunately it was only applied to "Too Many Pinkie Pies". We don't know what VITAC was thinking. The apparently forgot to press copy right after they fixed it. Oops.

Episode 109 So I watched that episode just now. I feel extremely strange. I did not expect this to happen. I'm both happy, but also extremely disappointed because a major part of the show is just... over now, for me... And with MLP being a rather huge inspiration/thing in my life, and this having happened, I don't know what I'm going to do now. I will never look at the cutie mark crusaders or at Scootaloo the same way as I did before. Also, there is one pony-related thing I have always wanted to do, since 2011, but I have never gotten around to doing it. And now it is probably not going to happen (I don't want to say publicly what it was). When I started watching the show, the characters just grew to my heart and especially the CMC because they reminded me so much of what I still am (not knowing what to do in life). Scootaloo became my favorite character because of her being kind of a "third wheel" - we don't exactly know her family or origins - but still being so cool and acrobatic, and a pegasus to boot. But especially because of her admiration for Rainbow Dash (who didn't acknowledge her, calling her a squirt etc.). I looked forward to the show's development especially because I was thrilled to see what would happen to the CMC, and if Rainbow Dash ever realized Scootaloo's true feelings for her. That was the first huge thing that... you could say... kept me going, made me really excited to see more. I started reading fanfiction about Scootaloo (as strange as it may sound, I'm really grateful having done so, having gotten to know Scootaloo better, having seen the adventures she has been through even if it was only in fanon). That first thing was "crushed" by Sleepless in Ponyville. I have stopped reading fanfiction entirely since. I kept going to see more, however. I wanted to see what else will happen. Would Scoots learn to fly? What will RD and Scoots do? And of course, what will happen to the CMCs. Will they get their marks? Well, you know how that turned out now. That "second big thing" is crushed now too. This is not supposed to be a lousy "I'm leaving the fandom" speech or anything retarded like that, but I'm just saying. The big thing that has kept me going is now over. There is nothing for me to look forward too. The show is milked out. Finito. And that pony-related thing I have mentioned above is not going to happen now. I have thought hard about when or if or how I should do it, but now there is no reason to anymore because it got destroyed by canon now. I'm rather sad now. To say the least, it had to do with drawing and now it looks like I will never want to draw anything again anymore. That's going to be as far as I go with my writing. I'm done.

Well, that was unexpected. Edit: At first I was rather "meh" about the whole episode, especially the crux of it, but the more I think about it, the more I'm warming up to the notion that the writers actually handled the plot point quite well. I'm not saying this was the best possible outcome they could have come up with, but on the other hand, there's a million ways they could have done it a lot worse. Likewise, about the cutie marks themselves I was also at first quite "meh", and didn't even like them, but in retrospect, I think they are kind of cool after all. Perhaps a bit odd and maybe a bit out-of-place in terms of style, but I don't think they are that bad. There are lots of parallels between this episode and Magical Mystery Cure, but I think this one was handled a lot better than that one. It's an end of an era (and perhaps the beginning of a new one), but I suppose it had to come at some point.
