Hello, today I am submitting the greatest movie to ever grace this god-forsaken website. In this tool-assisted speedrun of Ocarina of Time, I complete it as fast as possible without using any doors; that is to say, I never press 'A' to open any sort of door anywhere in the run.
The previous route for this category (which you can view in 16:9 480p here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGeLcnaudnI) used a 'double wrong warp' with the Odd Mushroom Timer and Farore's Wind on B to wrong warp from Dodongo's Cavern to Deku Tree, and then from Deku Tree to the credits respectively. In this submission, I use the wrong warp commonly known as 'ganondoor' to warp straight to the tower collapse as used in any%, but not before gathering a few things to make that possible without using any doors.
After gathering enough rupees for 2 Deku Sticks and 1 set of Deku Nuts, I escape the forest using a common clip into the Zora River exit. After making my way to Kekariko and collecting the bottle, I navi dive into the Bottom of the Well and use a special glitch exclusive to the 1.0 version of the game to alter Link's collision and make my way to the bombchus, after which I use one of aformentioned chus to vine clip and swim out of bounds to collect the Master Shield, which I will need later in the run as adult Link. From here, it is a simple matter of making my way to the Taylor 'Temple of Time' For The Win and skipping the Door of Time with a nicely angled twisty sidehop to go adult.
Once I am fully grown, I go back to Kakariko and grab the hookshot from the Dampe race. This will be needed for a glitch later on in the run. After exiting Kakariko, I kill and then bottle a poe, then use quick-draw duplication to get a bottle on my B button and RBA the poe. This gives me 29 chus, which means I am now well equipped to start my last leg of the journey to performing ganondoor-less.
In Kokiri Forest, I hover on top of the trees to the unloaded Deku Tree area which allows me to enter the loading zone of the Deku Tree uninhibited. From here, I climb the spiral and perform a 'ground clip' to fall into out of bounds basement, where I jumpslash off an unloaded torch to get to the boss room loading zone. After killing Gohma, I use Ocarina Items on the edge of the warp to be able to move around very shortly after the initial warp cutscene.
This is the most critical part of the run. At this point, the most important thing is that I have the camera positioned in such a way that I am not looking too close to the warp or too far away from it, but at an angle which 'freezes' the timer that tells the game when to actually send you to the Deku tree cutscene. With the camera like this, I get ISG off of the closest thing I can (a bush- I have no bombs, damage ISG would be too slow, and getting ISG at all before Gohma dies doesn't matter because the death cutscene cancels it) and begin my hover by the door. It was recently discovered that using the 'quick-draw from explosive limit glitch' (seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3uWFYZBZKU), it is possible to store and ground jump anywhere, only using chus. I use this to my advantage here as I store the ground jump and use it to climb out of bounds on top of the stone slab that is blocking your exit towards the door I didn't come in through. Once I am on top of this stone slab, I let my camera look at the warp for a second or two to advance the warp timer to a certain value, then hover to the loading zone and again abuse the camera such that it begins taking me to the deku cutscene while it is also taking me to the previous room via loading zone.
After this, it's a simple matter of doing tower collapse skip and killing Ganon with the only weapon I have to do so until I can retrieve my sword: the hookshot.
IMPORTANT: If you get a desync after coming out of Zora's River as child, just replay the movie and it should work.

  • This movie does not qualify for Vault Tier as it is not aiming for fastest completion.
  • The category that this movie is going for is considered to be too arbitrary.
  • Optimization is also an issue for this movie.
For those reasons, I am rejecting this movie. Better luck next time~

Are you trying to beat Samsara at her own game, mister? Regarding the run itself... yyyeahhh. Not publication-worthy, but still kinda entertaining. I did find the method used to get out of Gohma's room pretty WTF-y, but... *sigh*, here's your vote.

Half the movie (if not more) is brand new content, and the part from any% is short enough to stay enjoyable. I found this run both entertaining and worthy of its own branch. Of course, this is just one viewer's opinion.

IDK if it's publication-worthy, but it surely was entertaining! Sub-optimal in some places, but didn't kill the fun for me. Refreshing TAS and also amazing intro!

Thank you all for your kind words. I did not make this movie with TASVideos in mind at all, if anything it was to continue a long running joke that I outline the history of in the description:
In 2012, Keeta uploaded a video titled "what happens when i play oot" in which it was discussed between The Onion Bros what exactly a category called "any% no doors", which Keeta had just completely made up, would look like in theory. This got me thinking if it was actually possible to beat Ocarina of Time without pressing 'A' to open any doors, and with the help of some other speedrunners, a theoretical route emerged. In 2013, armed with Mupen, Windows Movie Maker, and people who knew a fuckton more about OoT than I do, I uploaded the very first 'Ocarina of Time No Doors' TAS completed in 49:16 which you can watch here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGeLcnaudnI). It was 480p, widescreen, had multiple editing splices and did the wrong kind of bomb OI, but it was incredible. In 2015, 3 weeks before this video was uploaded, Tekyla completed an RTA run of No Doors in 47:55 thanks to various route improvements. I had promised myself and others that if anything like this every happened, I would re-TAS No Doors with a brand new route and do it right. This time, armed with bizhawk, barely any actual proper TAS skill, people who know a fuckton more about OoT than me, and an actual proper video encoder, I present to you the final and premier Doorless Ocarina of Time experience. Enjoy.
I figured I would submit it anyway because why not. I understand the category is extremely arbitrary, it would be cool if it was published but I understand there are plenty of legitimate reasons against it. My goal was to entertain and it looks like I more or less achieved that.

The category would probably rake in a lot of donations at a GDQ, to be honest - it looks entertaining, even if this particular execution is long-winded (why even get the Master Sword when the game assumes it to you in the Ganon Battle after pickup even as Kid Link?). I presume you can more-or-less do this in realtime with some practice?

Very entertaining. Few surprises and was fun to watch. Yes vote. Please use the screen shot just after collecting hookshot where it looks like Link is diving into the chest. So funny and well timed pause from the author to let that visual linger for a moment.

I was entertained. I watch enough OoT speedruns to understand and appreciate the tricks and movement choices, but I'm not expert enough to spot the suboptimal parts. I find the route pretty funny: such a long detour just for the hookshot to make that ground jump, then back to Gohma and wrong-warping but as adult Link. At the same time, it reduces this category to essentially the any% route with extra stuff in the middle, which makes it hard to recommend for publication. Too bad April 1 is a long way off; this would have been a perfect "it's a joke, or is it" submission. Thanks for sharing the TAS, and I hope you had a great time making it.

That seems like an overly wordy way of saying "Moons", "Vault", or "Reject." But yes, in the spirit of broken records, I cannot agree enough that the poll is all but useless as it is for all but a select few submissions.

In favor of this movie and others like it in categorical choice (In its completion of a game under various restrictions, making the completion itself a technical feat) for the following reasons: This TAS is of high technical and entertainment quality The fact that we make TASes is itself arbitrary, whether we choose to aim for speed, or anything else using precision tools The acronym for this site literally stands for tool-assisted superplays, not for tool-assisted speedruns

i already watched it before voting, i still believe this site shouldn't be plagued by infinite variations of the most loved games runs and i complimented the author for the great job he done in my original comment,but i think andypanther expresses the feeling i don't have the patience to explain so keep it fresh,tasvideos members,you can't get butthurt on this opinion,and you should ban urselves for ur behavior ALSO: how do i vote for this to not get published?
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

Aiming for the fastest possible time is never arbitrary.
I did not intend or even expect to sway, change, or otherwise alter the established and well reasoned movie publication guidelines this community has through trial and error instituted. The aforementioned reasoning, that TASing is fundamentally arbitrary before the goal choice is even selected, is perhaps valueless opinion. I do highly appreciate that TASvideos' standards have kept this site's content of utmost quality, but think that entertaining and technical TASes with somewhat random goal choices should be afforded a little more consideration.

A TAS with arbitrary goals and/or limitations can be of high technical and entertainment quality, but there ought to be a reasonable limit to how arbitrary those can be. Else we could have literally hundreds of TASes of the same game, each with a slightly different set of goals/limitations. Any% and 100% completions get pretty much a free pass (at least for games that are TASable for speed, and the latter only if the game is such that there is a sensible definition of "100% completion" that is clearly different from the any% completion). Other categories are not out of the question, but ought to be considered carefully. There should be remarkable merit and uniqueness of some sort, and even then we should avoid the number of different categories exploding uncontrollably.

it's also to be noticed the zelda community has a lot of space for storing and holding these notable achievements on their own with sites like zeldaspeedruns and others,in which they hold all the categories they find interesting to run,and aren't any of our business. this is also why i vote no for super metroid crazy runs we have here,they have other places to post their achievements

For what it's worth, I voted yes on this run as I acknowledge the effort and how it differentiate itself enough from the current published run. I think more people need to adjust and remind themselves that we have since a few years back a category called the vault. It's there for a reason so we wouldn't hinder yourselves with the now obsolete argument: "this game already has x numbers of category". If you find a movie entertaining and different enough from an already existing category, you should vote accordingly.

If anything I'd concede to agree with grassini in this being more suitable for some of these runs. I think the counterarguments for not posting this are legitimate as well, I suppose I'm only miffed that some well made and highly enjoyable TASes don't make it to this site and then fade into obscurity, while some very monotonous ones make their way to the vault. (And to an extant moons)

Ocarina of Time: No doors? It's alright. The execution isn't exactly optimal, but given the arbitrariness of this category, I think it should be seen more as a playaround anyway. I'm kind of displeased to see Ganondoor being used though. Sure, you didn't open it, but you've still "ganondoored" in no doors, which kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe we could just rename this particular instance of the glitch into "Ganonnodoor" because you really aren't using the door but the warp behind it? Still, the fact remains that you got uncomfortably close to a door. I really hope to see the route being improved in the future, so it can keep even farther away from those horrible things. Also, I was extremely disturbed to see you passing through many GATES. They're clearly a lesser evil, it was Zelda who opened them, and the goal doesn't explicitely state to avoid them, but why not simply choose the objectively better goal of avoiding those too? Anyway, that's just my personal take on it. Voting yes for the best ground jump ever seen in an OoT TAS, for not getting bombs, for pressing A to quickgrab ledges, and for hooking the crap out of Ganon.

There are real-time runs of this category. In fact, that's the entire reason why this TAS was made: because the old run was beaten in RTA.

Voted yes, because this shit is very entertaining. But the run should probably be vaulted for obvious reasons. Also the optimisation wasn't that great and I could see possible improvements in the route. (In fact I can think of multiple routes faster than this one, but nobody asks me anymore)

My Ninjaedit wasn't fast enough, it seems. In fact I can only think of one (the other ones, I have to confess, had slight problems): You get the hookshot as a child. That way you don't have to go back all the way through Kakariko as an adult. Getting into dampes grave as a kid can be done in ~3 chus.
