Hi all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, this is my first post and I'm willing to learn. Okay so I have a question about playing computer games speed. So I never owned a Genesis to know their speed. However, if I play a game on one site and it runs like Zelda speed (Fav series) and I play on another site and it runs way faster but the admins says the games are running correctly, is the faster speed correct or the Zelda game speed? I can give you both to test for yourself to see what I mean. Someone suggested the problem is my machine. If so why. We (The members) had to talk to the admin of the Zelda speed site because the games were all running like the games on the faster site. And we all think now they are at the right speed which is slower than that other site. I mean the same game on both sites and the speed is different on both. Thanks!

I didn’t understand any of that. Also, please do not bold your text like that.

I'll try not to but it helps me re-read when I post replies and stuff. Vision problems. Anyway.. I hope this isn't against any rules. I play Old School games online in at least two different sites. One site's game speed is, to me at least, normal. However the other site's games are much faster. The games are for the same system. I guess my question is... well, maybe the sites are using different mechanisms to present the games to its members but, the games have different speeds. One site is much faster than the other. Is that possible or is something maybe wrong with my comp? I hope that's better. Sorry...

Sorry to hear that. I suggest you use browser zoom rather than inconvenience everybody else with bolded text, though. If you’re not sure how to use the browser’s zoom function, try holding down the Ctrl key and pressing + or - for zoom-in and zoom-out. That might work. If it doesn’t, Google how to use zoom with the browser you’re using. The way you phrased the question now is a lot better, I understand it but I don’t know the answer, sorry. Someone else might be able to help.

Is it possible you're playing different versions of the games? Old school games ran slower on European (PAL) systems than on American (NTSC) systems. For example, here is a comparison of Sonic the Hedgehog on PAL (50 Hz) vs NTSC (60 Hz). It's possible that some sites present the games at PAL speed for nostalgic European gamers, and some at the faster NTSC speed for American gamers.

Ahhh! So then would the site show what they're running somewhere? I don't know if I'm allowed to mention sites in here, some sites frown on the kind of thing esp if they are sites with online games for systems like NES, SEGA, SNES, GBA etc. I do think if i named the sites you might be familiar with them. I know one onwer is out of Germany. At least his Twitter indicates such. And his site is the slower speed but we members had to talk him down to that speed. It was crazy before. I mean if you emulate a game you should also emulate its proper speed. I don't want to play in a site where the characters seem to be speed walking. Thank you... I'll check into that. Btw, does this site offer Avatars, or would you please link me to a place where I could import one. Thank you... :)

It's safest not to mention the sites on here, thank you for being considerate of that. The sites may show what kinds of games they're running in the About section, Home page, or above the game you're playing if it says (EU) or (PAL). If the games are slower on that site and the owner is from Germany, it's likely that they are at the slower speed you're used to, PAL 50 Hz. The American versions must be the ones that seem sped up to you for that reason (those "faster" ones are the norm for me, haha). This site doesn't offer avatars, but you can use any image on the Internet by pasting a link to it in your Profile. You can find one by searching Google Images for an image based on your interests. Note that it will need to be below a certain size, as detailed in the blue text near the URL box. :)

Good morning! You're welcome, and yes, you can send me a PM if you have any further questions. Unfortunately, I am not that Kirby; I don't do much work on other sites. But if you want to see some of the work I and others on this site do, you should check out the videos on here where we beat classic games fast, including some Zelda games! Regardless, I hope you have a good one as well. :)

Hello Kirby, thanks you and I was talking with a friend about the speed thing and he tested it out on his laptop and thought the speeds were the same as the games or downloads. As for me, I still have a problem with that because of my net connection. Which is considerably slower than his. At any rate, I'm kind'a sure it has to do with the PAL NYSC thing. If you'd like to give it a shot at testing I'll give you the names of the sites.

Sure, I'd like to help. I'm traveling and on my phone right now, but if you could PM me the sites, I'll check them out on my PC when I get a chance.

I tried but got an "Invalid Session" message. Resending didn't help.

I have the same problem sometimes when trying to comment in this thread. I think the site, or your browser, may be logging you out before you can send the message. Try copying your message content and starting over by pasting it into a new message.

Since this sounds like a browser-based web app, I would either compare your results to the actual hardware (console) or a well-reputed emulator.
