Submission Text Full Submission Page
Hello, it will be the first time post. This game is a little different from the overseas edition, some capture method is different. There you feel the charm, and I wanted to post.

ars4326: Judging!
ars4326: Hello, julius_x, and welcome to TASVideos. This run certainly beats the current published TAS due to the far quicker textbox speeds contained in the JPN version. However, per the site's movie rules, time gained through shorter text boxes cannot be the sole reason for obsoleting a run. There must be significant gameplay improvements, also. And unfortunately, most of the battles throughout the run are significantly slower than the current published TAS. I posted a table outlining specific times in the thread. Two of your boss battles were faster, however, which I hope encourages you to study the current run's tactics and make further improvements upon them. The current TAS is definitely beatable!
Rejecting due to sub-optimal gameplay. Hope to see an improved run from you in the future!

This is an amazing year for Lufia 2, it seems. I'll have to watch this as soon as I have time. Published movie: [792] SNES Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals by Gunty in 3:03:12.78

If you compare the end point timing to be the same as the previous movie, it's actually more like 2:52:59.46. I didn't really watch it in detail though, so I can't comment on it at this point, maybe later.

Also worth remembering that time gains from faster text are discounted.

I wouldn't be surprised if the entirety of the improvement is just from the much faster text. From a very quick comparison of the Youtube encodes (I apologize for the large images): Published run: This submission: About 30 seconds of difference within the first 5 minutes of both runs. This run also loses about 4 seconds in that timespan due to fighting two Red Slimes in one battle, where the published run only fights one, so the text difference could be as much as 35 seconds up to this very early point. This is gonna be rough for whoever decides to judge this... I wish them the best. To help alleviate that a bit, I'll try to find a day where I can go through both runs and see just how much time is saved/lost in areas that aren't text/version differences. I'll just leave this here for my own future reference: Post #110299

Well, the text boxes are definitely much faster. However, I've been noticing places where the published run is still faster. edit: Since I've claimed the run for judging, I'll create a new post in the thread detailing the full time differences.

There ARE a couple actual changes in dungeon/puzzle design that would impact time above and beyond text speed. https://tcrf.net/Lufia_II:_Rise_of_the_Sinistrals#Regional_Differences They're really not all that significant, but they do exist.

Aside from the quicker text speeds, the major differences that I noticed on this submission occurred during the boss fights. Here's a list of certain battles, in order, in which significant time differences occurred between the two runs: TRIAL CAVE Battle #3: Slime(s) julius_x: 440 frames Gunty: 153 frames BOSS: Regal Goblin julius_x: 2957 frames Gunty: 2576 frames MINI-BOSS: Follower x2 julius_x: 1226 frames Gunty: 767 frames BOSS: Camu julius_x: 6210 frames Gunty: 4601 frames BOSS: Tarantula julius_x: 8526 frames Gunty: 8244 frames BOSS: Danielle 1 (red clown) julius_x: 3123 frames Gunty: 2702 frames BOSS: Pierre 1 (blue clown) julius_x: 3454 frames Gunty: 2988 frames BOSS: Pierre 2 julius_x: 1534 frames - faster time! Gunty: 1876 frames BOSS: Danielle 2 julius_x: 2612 frames Gunty: 1920 frames MINI-BOSS: Mummy x4 julius_x: 1817 frames Gunty: 1247 frames MINI-BOSS: Troll x3 julius_x: 1018 frames Gunty: 991 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Gades julius_x: 3400 frames Gunty: 2366 frames BOSS: Idura 1 julius_x: 1501 frames Gunty: 1324 frames BOSS: Lion x2 julius_x: 2171 frames Gunty: 1696 frames BOSS: Idura 2 julius_x: 3956 frames Gunty: 3286 frames BOSS: Idura 3 julius_x: 3155 frames Gunty: 2375 frames BOSS: Rogue Flower julius_x: 3168 frames Gunty: 2145 frames BOSS: Gargoyle x4 julius_x: 1759 frames Gunty: 1288 frames frames BOSS: Venge Ghost julius_x: 1549 frames Gunty: 853 frames BOSS: White Dragon x3 julius_x: 1650 frames Gunty: 1375 frames BOSS: Fire Dragon julius_x: 3347 frames Gunty: 2835 frames BOSS: Ghost Ship julius_x: 1011 frames - faster time! Gunty: 1083 frames BOSS: Tank julius_x: 5795 frames Gunty: 4846 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Gades 2 julius_x: 3649 frames Gunty: 3097 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Amon 1 julius_x: 5119 frames Gunty: 3636 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Gades 3 julius_x: 2930 frames Gunty: 2645 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Amon 2 julius_x: 4596 frames Gunty: 3299 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Erim julius_x: 5400 frames Gunty: 5341 frames SINISTRAL FIGHT: Daos julius_x: 7587 frames Gunty: 6269 frames TOTAL julius_x: 94660 frames Gunty: 75894 frames DIFFERENCE: 18766 frames ---- Unfortunately, more improvement needs to be put into the battles in order to obsolete the current published run. Two of the boss fights, however, were quicker! So this is an encouraging sign that the current run can be obsoleted if faster strategies are implemented.
