That's basically what I'm doing. I'm just worrying about the first game right now, and will move on to the others when this is done. I've been conflicted about submitting it, though, not because of entertainment, but because of site rules.

One thing I'll mention is that, most of the time, the earliest you can hit A to get through a text box is 1 frame before the play sign on the touch screen shows up. Sometimes it's 2 frames before. I haven't found the pattern.

A is best to going through dialogue. Stylus is best for choosing/grabbing.

Well, I learned the pattern. If there's a lagged frame 3 frames before the play sign appears, then the earliest you can press A is 1 frame. If there's no lagged frame, then it's 2 frames.

I've tried this game out myself now. I guess it becomes little more open-ended after the first chapter, resembling a normal adventure game at that point. But it is still fairly streamlined as far as the game mechanics and the story progression goes... Tried to find some menu exploits while at it, but so far nothing.

If you play from a game clear SRAM you can skip text. Which will make the game go much faster and look more like a TAS.

I've decided, after reading the sight rules carefully, that I will use SRAM to be able to fast forward through text. I'm currently recording a fresh game for validity, and if there's any problems with this, let me know.

As long as you have the verified movie, there shouldn't be much of a problem with the SRAM usage.

While the SRAM may not unlock any special mode, it is required for a time saver. It's possible that this breaks the vault rules, but I'm still playing the regular game, just, well, faster. Now, should the movie be entertaining, there's no problem on that end. I feel it shouldn't be rejected simply because the SRAM doesn't provide additional gameplay, but what could be done is have 2 categories: SRAM, and no SRAM. I've never seen this done, and the no SRAM probably runs into the 10+ hour range, so I'll leave all of that up to the judges.

Visual novels are at a risk since long dialogue parts can't be said to substantially differ from non-assisted gameplay. It's kind of a pity how (at least the first) Phoenix Wright is so streamlined too. If it had inventory management or branching paths, that would help. The game gets more and more complex as it progresses, but even in the last level it's still not very complex. A finished run of this game would be 1% of actual TAS-meaningful content (for instance fingerprinting and 3d-object manipulation in last level). 19% intrigue from what is the fastest possible route. And 80% watching dialogue. Using SRAM is a fun idea if all dialogue becomes instantly skippable that way, and might balance the scales more to this game's favor. How about doing a multi-Phoenix Wright run? Completing more than one of these games simultaneously with the same input? D:

It has been done [2666] PSX Castlevania: Symphony of the Night "Replay Mode" by ForgoneMoose in 12:44.25 Though if the SRAM branch doesn't make it to Moons, Vault rules would probably reject it due to technically not being any% or 100%. I can't tell if no branch name with dirty SRAM changes that or not. Personally I'd much rather see a dirty SRAM Phoenix Wright run than clean SRAM, even if it doesn't end up being publishable here

The Ace Attorney games, while immensely popular due to the characters and story, are a strange case. Especially in this sense. Without SRAM, they'd be very slow to those expecting nothing short of speed play, but gives interesting story. With SRAM, they'd be fast, but you'd miss a portion of the story. As for the idea about multiple AA games being run simultaneously, there's the trials as well as the investigations to consider. It'd be interesting to find out how it would work though. If yep2yel would like to pursue that idea, I'll be glad to assist. Possibly even as a colab effort.

We skip entire stories all the time, though. Hell, we'll even turn the story on its head so that it makes next to no sense. So, that's not an issue. It would be an issue if the SRAM violated some vault rule, and the movie wasn't entertaining.

I've just beaten ALL 3 Phoenix Wright games in my R4 flashcard (that's what I've been doing all these days), so I can give the dirty SRAM files if anybody is still interested.
