So this is the part where I re-explain everything.

The Stuff

  • FCEUX 2.2.2
  • 2 Players
  • Hardest Difficulty
  • Luck Manipulation

Values

The only value I can give out is 002E.
This value is global between both versions and it tells you how much longer till an enemy spawns.
The enemy "Slipice" is not considered as an enemy so it doesn't display when that spawns.
Coins also don't appear on this.

18 Phases?

Yes...
That is the maximum before the game decides to loop on this version.

Explain the differences!

NO! Oh, wait.... I actually have to.
  • Ice Physic Phases (except for the "Test Your Skill" phases)
  • Over a period of time NTSC has more "Test Your Skill" phases compared to PAL
  • Momentum Jumps, as in you cannot switch your movement mid air like the other version
  • No icicles (yay)
  • START GLITCH OF AWESOMENESS~!

Frame Wait

See this.

You flipped an enemy!

Yup. Did it for a waiting thing, doesn't waste time.

No B Button

That's right. No B Button. This button wasn't on the Arcade and isn't part of this game.
B Button is a dead button.

Test Your Skill

I leave the best for last.
Phasing through floors everyone:

This is very effective and useful ONLY for these phases, they're useless everywhere else because you will lose time and you're also pausing the enemy from spawning in the level. It is only useful here as you can jump through the ground grab the coins and run.

Special Thanks

Nach - For allowing that both versions can be submitted due to their differences.
ScienenceFX - For literally making me pick this up due to his derpish TAS.

Nach: Compared to its counter part, there's some engine differences, a tiny enemy difference, and more importantly, a different set of enemy waves. Contrasting to other games where the differences between regional ports consist of a miniscule percentage of their play, seeing as how little this game offers, I find the differences here significant enough to differentiate between the regional ports and give each their own TAS.
Audience response was decent, with many finding the run entertaining. I too for its length judged it to be exciting enough for moons. Accepting as a new branch.

Why both NTSC and PAL?

PAL version has more phases, an extra "enemy" and different movement. Which is explained in "Explain the differences!"

I meant why is that significant enough for I presume two desired publications rather than one obsoleting the other. It brings back the memory of the half-dozen Joust submissions. You chose PAL before, so I assume that's the preferred one.

Good run! I especially enjoyed the synchronization, (especially the bits of humor you interjected, throughout).

Nice run, but I'm not really seeing the point of two separate branches here (and the other run appears to have a better difficulty level).

Personally, I found this run a little less entertaining than the PAL run, but they're both good. This has some nice little antics as well. I think the differences are big enough to warrant having both runs published.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I think it should obsolete the old run. For some reasons; 1) It's faster. I know they're different, but still. 2) It's more entertaining. Yeah, entertainment is subjective... 3) It feels more precise than the old run. The old run revisited? Good. Of course I don't have the insights to tell all the differences, but this is how I feel about both runs.
I am old enough to know better, but not enough to do it.

meh. They're both quite similiar imo. Maybe because I haven't really played this much (only a few levels on the advanced remakes) or because of the gameplay, but I don't really see the point of having 2 different TASes for this particular game. Oh, and meh vote as well because it doesn't seem to add much difference other than pause glitch. The existing one also seemed a bit better.

I think this is different enough for a separate publication. Can't really say which one I like more, they're both entertaining.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

How different is "different enough" for regional differences? I know something has happened before in both ways for this: Obsoletion [1351] SNES Kirby's Avalanche by smns72 & pirohiko in 05:44.03 Publication [2648] PSX Tenchu: Stealth Assassins (Japan) by NhatNM in 16:34.17 [1904] SNES Panel de Pon "maximum score" by zvsp in 00:39.20 Oh and then there's the SMB TAS PAL that didn't seem quite as popular despite seemingly a similar situation. Wonder what would be the verdict if it wasn't cancelled? #2753: MUGG's NES Super Mario Bros. "PAL" in 04:56.48

I see no problem with the vault containing both of these movies. They are significantly different games beyond bugfixes or translation differences, and they are short enough that the differences make up a big enough percentage of the movie that it doesn't just feel like watching the same thing twice.

I'll just note that SMB(E) was not rejected, it was canceled.

Question: Are we removing the branch name again on this one too?

Well if the region is mentioned in the publication of each, then I don't think it needs a branch name

That was well done, Spikestuff! Just as entertaining as the PAL one. Voting Yes.

This movie has been published. The posts before this message apply to the submission, and posts after this message apply to the published movie. ---- [2732] NES Mario Bros. "2 players" by Spikestuff in 07:06.98

It looks like [2671] NES Mario Bros. (Classic Serie) "2 players" by Spikestuff in 09:09.64 was generally preferred, in posts, votes, and ratings. I think that other movie is more complete, and I don't see the difference that would make the 2 versions look like obviously 2 different games. My personal impression is that the Classic Serie version should be the only version published, but we can instead just shift this one to Vault as fastest completion. Both are marked with the flag flag, but I think it's wrong, as it's not 2 different games or modes, just branch level variations.
