Baxter did a great TAS but it can be improved. I don't know if you should call this a "bug" or cheat but you can see my WIP here and tell me what you think. Only thing this 'trick' do is take away waiting time (at the intro) of the game. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1078/Diman-JCAKF.fcm What do you say? Is this good?

Hehe, I didn't know about that. Either way, it doesn't save time when going horizontally. There is only one room in the entire game that starts vertically, and it's at the very end of the game. I can only see this trick saving a few frames at most at this particular room. As far as I know the rest of the run is frame perfect, so I might as well just keep the run, and redo the last minute of the run (including this trick which will probably save a few frames). There is no point in redoing the entire run.

You were working on a Jackie Chan movie? I do hope you know some other improvements than this one, since it will (if I'm correct about this) only save a few frames in the one room that starts out vertically. If this is the case, you might as well have told me about it, since it it's worth playing the entire game again for...

Please suprise me, but the extra jump doesn't give you can extra speed horizontally... and it can only be done right after a level starts (at least, that's what I got from it).

No you don't. I'm currently working on something else, but I'll try to improve this movie of yours when it's finished... so you'd better not hurry and take your time.

well there was another one glitch that i found but to be honest, it happened only by pure luck, and i cant make ir happend again :'( anyway the glitch work like this, in the last fight (before the spider) u can hit the boss twice with a single energy beam (hado ken??) but, i couldnt make that guy do the same movement that allowed me to do that, and i dont remember what exactly did before it to make it happen (if that's the reason that caused it) but the glitch, makes me take damage (one thing that you speedrun doesnt have. thats why im not sure about to exploid it) and also is the well known trick to select the starting level, but that's not usefull in this TAS because, i'll be like a password or something.(even being in the game manual) anyway, i was working on this, but before start recording it i try to know the game, study your movie (wich is very good) and then, try to find glitches or something that can help me to finish a movie without entering in a "frame battle" for a few ammount of time that doesnt even reach one second. also i find some funny glitches, but they doesnt saves time (as a matter of fact they cost me frames ¬¬) anyway i'll keep the movie in a passive mode. also i will start working on http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3718 but, i'll post again here only when i can make an improvement of 2+ sec or so, and if i cant make it, i wont submint any movie

Hi! Man it feels like eternity since I've been here last time.. Anyway.. Here I've done a TAS of Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, and I must say, it look really nice! Eh, MOST of the time, cause in other places it looks like a 3 year old kid or whatever, could TAS it better.. =/ And why's that? Cause first I felt that Baxter's TAS of this game should need a makeover, to my disappointment, it was harder than I could ever expect.. Well, well.. Know you all know the reason i didn't put this "test"-TAS or whatever, at the submission-thread.. Here you go.. Have a watch: http://www.sendspace.com/file/mrokl3I By the way.. Is the feature I use at the beginning allowed? At the menu, that is? I wanna know in case I should make a "perfect" TAS of this game..

Hi, I've made a WIP of the first level. I'm 7 frames ahead of the published run after the first boss. I've also kept track of how many kills and collected orbs I have compared to the published run, and so far I've killed 9 more enemies and collected 12 more balls. Here's the .fcm (made with 0.98.28). I saved 1 frame on level 1-1 by getting maximal boosts from platforms, 4 frames by getting a better boost from the first platform on level 1-3, and 2 frames on 1-4 by jumping up the vertical section faster. Also, I've analyzed how the trick Diman found works. It's possible to make a very high jump in mid-air when the value of RAM address 00E5 is less than 7. This only happens at the beginning of a level. The link to Diman's latest WIP is dead, so I don't know if that WIP is any faster than me or Baxter. Onwards to level 2!

I always wanted to make tas, but its either that entertaining games have tases already or the ones that i see are so good so i doubt that a newbie would beat them. However, while watching existing tas where taser takes no damage, i thought of something other way around - complete the game without any enemy being damaged, including frogs and excluding bosses for obvious reasons. The question: would the community be interested in such tas?

Make a low optimisation level test run TAS, post it and then see how promising it looks. (Even if it's not, it will be good practice.)

OK I started. The immediate question to the community: should pacifist run be totally for minimal damage, or is inflicting damage is OK for as long as enemy does not dies? I don't see a way to get past tigers in first level without be damaged, and I know that I will need more HP that I have if I will keep receiving damage like that.

I know of the following precedent: In Symphony of the Night pacifist you're allowed to hit enemies as long as you aren't credited for killing them.

OK. I however decided to avoid damaging enemies completely, because I managed to get past first two stages with enough health to kill the boss. As for now, tasing is being interesting and looks somewhat entertaining. Especially jumping between falling icicles on level without receiving damage. Level 5 is a nightmare, Too much unavoidable enemies and only 5 HP to spend. But I made it here at least and its only 4k frames longer than speedrun one. Good to know, especially that there is no optimization being done atm. I will post a unoptimised version as soon as I finish it.

After long time of idling I returned to this possible TAS, but it does not looks entertaining enough for me. Also, it is was too much of a strategy for me to properly choose at which unavoidable enemies to be damaged and at which to wait. Dumping this idea. I also think that I am just not a right kind of a person for TASing. Though watching TASes is fun. I wish best of luck to both all existing TASers and any newcomers.

is there a normal run for this game already?pacifist TASes usually have a precedent run that plays the game only with speed in mind.
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

I found a small trick in the river level that lets you jump out of river without losing your horizontal velocity for so long. Basically just let go of right for a frame when you start jumping. It saves about 2 frames every time you do it. There are lots of jumps in that level, so it should add up pretty quickly. I suppose I will continue off Randil's WIP and see what I can do. Also have to remember to add Diman's trick at the end too.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/22561027219611492 Here is my first attempt. I saved more frames then what I thought since the trick also works in the conveyer belts and saves about 3 frames each jump in that area. I'm glad I found this trick, as this run was one I was concerned about actually being able to improve. I also included Diman's jump. EDIT: second attempt much more optimized then the first one
