Does Hourglass work for Touhou games? Just wondering.

Yes! If you want to see a TAS in Hourglass of any of the ZUN Touhou shmups, go to nicovideo. I think I have seen a TAS of every single one by now.

Yeah, I've seen many of them, and it's quite amazing. Umh, does it only work for some games? I tried with Touhou 8 and I didn't even get past the loading lol ("The game crashed...", and many times. With Multithreading Allow it just crashes a bit later. And yeah, I would like to make a full TAS. RNG Powerups and defeat bosses ASAP.) EDIT: Oh and yeah, putting "Wrap" makes Windows crash. :D EDIT2: I, ofc, have already trying to put Disable on Multithreading and already Disabled DirectSound Creation. It still crashes 1/6 of the times when I load state. And I load state very oftenly.

https://code.google.com/p/hourglass-win32/wiki/CompatibilityList lists recommended settings for TASing Perfect Cherry Blossom. I'd suggest you get that working first, and then see if the same settings work for other Touhou games.

Touhou only works correctly in Windows XP, so you'd better use a VM. The later games (I believe MoF onwards) also need you to remove the BGM files in order to sync, and you need some trick (that I don't know very well) to save replays. Here are the TAS High Score for each game, by the way.

I don’t think the power ups are RNG by the way… but it’s been a while since I’ve played, I don’t know.

Yeah, regarding items, there's almost zero RNG. But I myself don't really find Touhou time-attacks very interesting. It's basically using the strongest shotgun, getting full power and point-blanking every boss (since the stage's length is fixed aside from the midbosses). The game is way more interesting to score in tool-assisted runs, like Kopiapoa has been doing.

I'd also be interested in TAS score attacks in non-Touhou shmups.

If you have Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise you can use 'Windows XP Mode' which is a kind of official Windows XP virtual machine. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7 Disclaimer: I haven't tried it with hourglass. (I actually -should- try it with hourglass... Would be interesting to see if I can do anything!)

(Sorry for double post) So, I'm back home. I tried the Windows XP Mode, but it doesn't seem to allow 3D Acceleration so I'm in a dead spot =/ I'm trying some other VMs, but I'm not sure I can get a positive result.

IIRC 3D is a bit tricky in VirtualBox, you may need to boot the virtual Windows in safe mode and then install the Guest Additions.
