Another game from my 8-year-oldness. Cheers to dwangoAC for the idea.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX (syncs on 2.2.2)
  • 2 players
  • Hardest difficulty
  • Platform

Comments

2 player mode kills the dependency on RNG's will, as I'm everywhere at once!
2 PLAYER GAME B is played.
You only want to kill the last enemy in the wave ASAP.

Glitches

  • Clipping into platforms (can save time)
  • Clipping into the floor; you only can move left, up and down there, and outside the lava area (doesn't save time)
  • Vertical wrapping (doesn't save time)

Ending

I beat all unique waves (see how the platforms disappear and then get back at the second egg wave), then let the AI kill my heroes. Some fun occurs during that extra time (like, NPCs suicide twice and feed me their eggs, there also might have been a pterodactyl suicide, but enemies were faster), also you can see how the game looks normally.

Nach: Normally, for situations like these, I would ignore the votes in the poll, as it's clear many are voting based on misinformation. I would then turn to the run comments, the earliest of which were based on misinformation, the latter of which had little what to say regarding the game, although it was not very positive either. I gave this run some time for more comments, but none materialized.
Regarding the run itself, while I find it to be executed well, for games like this, the rules state the criteria for completion is as follows: "Games that loop endlessly can still be defined. The completion point is one where there is no new content, and the game is no longer increasing in difficulty."
Since the game does increase in difficulty for later waves with more distractions from the pterodactyl, and spawning enemies which move considerably faster, I am deeming this run incomplete. Several more waves need to be played, and a later cycle must be reached. Rejecting.

Not a great fan of the way you ended input, seems like there would have been tons of time to lose all the extra lives during the game so the game over would have occurred very shortly after end of input, without losing time... voting meh because a) I may be wrong on that and b) the time after end of input did show a few interesting things as you pointed out... just not enough to keep me entertained during that time. Edit: Other than that, I really liked it!

I'm not very fond of games without an actual ending, and which are "ended" just by deliberately losing. (Some of the tetris runs are borderline...)

Agreed. I voted No due to this since the TAS seemed "incomplete" like this.

I'm giving it a meh. Actually let me re-write that. I'm giving ALL Joust TASes a meh. These are all acceptable and I will use one game and the only example I can give as my source. Mario Bros. Both Games are endless with the same amount of enemies spawning. I could also partake and say Mario Bros. input ended EARLY for TAS time and not a real time and also you could've left the input going to kill the Bros and get a Game Over. (Note: Most of you won't understand what I wrote just then so I'll modify it in a bit) Another Game with Endless stuff going on is Donkey Kong. So why not this? I'm happy to see this and the others get accepted.

The run was already complete once all 9 unique waves were completed. What comes after is no longer relavent to the run. There is no need to lose any lives, there is no game over, no time once wave 10 is reached is counted.

Well, the precedent set with previous runs of multi-wave games to my knowledge have ended the encode as soon as the last wave with unique content has been completed. So it should cut it as soon as wave 10 appears on the screen.

I dunno, I drop input as soon as the last wave makes sure to be beaten (not beating it ASAP though), all the rest is indeed irrelevant. I didn't want to spend lives on deaths, dunno, didn't feel like it. Then I set up what I thought would look the best out of all options available when input is no longer provided, and it looked funny to me. Judging by the opinions here, it really should be cut out in the encode, but it still has a right to exist IMO.

There's nothing wrong with showing what happens after, but that certainly shouldn’t be the primary encode, and it definitely won't be part of the judgment.

As a well-known classic of video game history: Yes vote. Did I want to watch this? Yes vote. Because I like Balloon Fight better: No vote. Because there is no definite ending: No vote. Did I enjoy what I saw? Meh vote. Eh. I'll go with "meh".

I still have a point to voice. All games that Spikestuff linked don't have anything to put in the encode after the wave/level is beaten even if you wanted to. On the other side, this run and Cheetamen 2 have content. So the question must be: is that content of any value? If not, for most people, I'll get it, just please don't treat it as an "already precedented", "a fortiori" case.

That's a load of baloney. I'm not familiar with every one of those games, but I know some of them have additional waves as well as game over screens.

Why do you keep comparing this to Cheetamen 2? To my knowledge Cheetamen 2 is a scrolling-diverse-level game and not a wave-based game.

With two players and the only major dependency being making sure you're in position for the last enemy of a wave, it seems honestly pretty trivial.

And it was :) Took me only 2 evenings. Dealing with 1 player needing to fly around, manipulate shit and delay killings, would be way harder (and it was, until I found 2P is possible), but probably it wouldn't look like a domination over the challenging game. But who can guarantee what the 1P version feedback will be?
