Which emulator you used? FCE ULTRA
Which emulator settings? Regular
Do you use warps or passwords? NOPE
What kind of programming errors do you abuse in the game? NONE
Do you take hits? NOPE Do you use death? NOPE Do you quit+restart in the middle of the movie? NOPE
What are your aims? Fastest possible time. Maximum medals. 100% kills.
Please describe the game briefly. This game is one of the funnest games I will ever play for the NES. I bought this game at a SAMS CLUB over 8 years ago and come to find out its a rare game. Still own it on cartridge too. Anyways.
Please describe the making of the movie. I started recording last night and was going to do some cool stuff with the game but come to find out, if you get touched by ANYTHING, the recording will mess up and you have to start over. Thankfully I figured that out when I sobered up a little. What was hard? EHHHHHH MAYBE. Why would anyone like the result? Cause the computer gets stomped in every event.
It'd be great if you can also suggest the description for your movie (to be shown in the movie listing), if it will be published. This is optional:
1st event, Hurdles: I had to manipulate luck to its maximum here so i could defeat the cpu without having to cross the finishing line. It depends on how you hit him and when you hit him. I like hitting the cpu with a board and a spinning kick right when he hits the hurdle for an extra 5% or so damage (Not a big deal of damage though).
2nd event, Hammer Throw: This is a golfing type game where I had to buy a Rocket (which turns the hammer into a rocket and flies further in the air upon the throw) from the Sports Store to get the hammer in the hole by 4 throws. 4 throws is the minimum amount of throws you can do and I collected a lot of medals in doing that. Nothing special required here except for turbo.
3rd event, Swimming: This event was my hardest because the computer kept switching up on me in the water. I had to go to the Sports Store again and buy the Gum because it would help me stay underwater longer to murder the computer. 1/3 of the time the computer would not let me grab and punch him because he would punch me first so I had to use a kicking method on him to make him reset his order.
4th event, Roof Top Jumping: This event has to be the funnest because it requires good timing and you need to know whats the fastest way you can get across the building. I use a bike technique which is way faster than the pole vault and it helps me continue running at full speed.
Final event, Fighting Scene: Here there is not much to tell except that I use the Atomic Fireball because it takes off the most damage. 1/4 of the time the computer would start running away or try to attack me but figuring out a way to get around it was easy.
If you are wondering why I picked SOUTHSIDE as my team, it is because: 1: Its the first team. 2. Crash is badass.
ENJOY

Truncated: This run was not well received, and the it's very repetitititive. Even at 800% speed the movie seemed too long. Therefore, rejecting.

You cant do that on a normal controller unless you config right and left NOT to the D-pad, because its fisically unable to press those directions at same time. Anyway, i recommend using keyboards for timeattack, you usually want all the hotkeys in reach.

Ah, you are using a controller? Then I can imagine that it's impossible to press left and right at the same time. Use the keyboard. The thing is that some emulators ignore left+right input because they are usually played with keyboards, and they try to simulate the effect of a gamepad. If you are using a gamepad you will not have much advantage of having this limitation removed.

Thanks for the update Ted Copple
What was that you were saying about being a jackass? To really talk about general techniques for making movies, you should probably discuss it in the forums and not in the thread devoted to the submission. To the untrained eye, this thread looks a lot like the author is a newcomer asking for help, while being arrogant and short-tempered with those who answer. It's a good thing we all know that you're really not a bad guy and have a sincere desire to learn and receive advice. We're all on your side, buddy.

Im no good with keyboards. But i can use both a controller and keyboard at the same time. Anyways. You guys have been much helpful. Thank you. UPDATE: Finally i figured out what I was doing wrong with this feature. It seems on the NES emulator, you can set the D-Pad on the controller the exact way you put it on the keyboard so then if i hold right on the controller and start tapping or even pressing left, something different happens. I think working with a controller is much easier than a keyboard.
Change my sig. again, and I will murder your pet fish.

Depends on what you mean by a sports game. It's set up like Track and Field except with half the events involving punching/kicking your opponents. N minigames based loosely on sports, half combat, half set courses. Between them you can use medals you earned (either by picking them up in previous games or awarded for winning) to buy power ups for the next one. All the combat events have the same 'ringer' team as the last battle in it so that team always wins first or second in them. In fact, you can win the whole thing without actually placing first in a single event just by collecting enough medals. If you choose Crash's team, there's an actual ending.

So this TAS provides a clear ending and is not quite a sports genre. Sounds like Vault material then!

This sync's on fceux2.2 after "Convert FCM..." Needs A added at 42091, 42133, 42217, 42272, 42389, 42469 to scroll through ending. Should I change the time to reflect the added input? 11m 47.833

Didn't have a chance to watch this before since I'm lazy and reliant on an encode, but I'm fairly sure that quite a lot of time could be saved in this run. Mainly through better RNG manipulation. It looks like the opponents aren't manipulated at all, so he ends up in the head to head always against characters with high health instead of the lower health ones or even depleted HP ones that participate in multiple events. Likewise, I know from experience that the AI can screw up all of the first four jumps in the rooftop run, ending it sooner (and since the one they show is automatically second place, it creates some technically impossible results). Wouldn't surprise me if the AI could've been manipulated a little better on the hammer throw too. And as a side but related note, it won't generate the actual ending, but I'm fairly sure that picking Lincoln instead of Southside would be faster. Artie and Skip are both stronger than Crash, and Wheels is the fastest character in the game. It'd also let you RNG Noise on Southside as an opponent who has the least HP AND worst Def in the game. That's also the Double Dragon team if you're using the Japanese version. ^^

I'm really glad the "Vault" has been implemented so movies like this get an automatic encode and listing. This run may not be perfect, but frankly I find a speedrun of a game like this much more interesting than Sidescrolling Platformer VII: Return of the Son of the Platforming Sidescroller.

Agreed. One thing to consider is the "<!(&/&X!" item, which will drain all health from another character - with proper RNG manipulation, this could make for a huge time saver, especially with Rooftop, Swimming, and Judo. It may even save time in Hammer Throw - I'll admit I've never tried to play Hammer Throw with low health, but if being at 0HP means a character can't get up after a botched throw, then this could be important.

True, but of course you generally want the "best ending" in a TAS :) Even ignoring that, I'm not sure if speed (or HP, but that goes without saying) matters in a TAS. The only two events where speed would come into play are Hurdles and Rooftop - in Hurdles, it only affects acceleration (I might be wrong here, I haven't actually done the RAM search, but I'm pretty sure it's for all intents and purposes an auto-scroller, with speed only determining the positioning of the characters relative to one another - i.e., Zack vs. Dragon (71/70) taking the same amount of time as Spreck vs. Dove (112 each)). Rooftop may be another story, I'm not sure if speed just counts for acceleration or not - if it is only acceleration, it'd only affect the start, since you can get max acceleration with proper polevault dismounts. You may well end up breaking even after considering the additional menu frames. Jefferson might be a better "bad ending" choice, since Clint's increased power might make for quicker Swimming/Judo runs (and Hurdles, relative to Lincoln, if power affects enemy damage from being bashed with hurdle pieces), and selecting Spreck for speed events would be quicker than down-downing to Wheels.

If anybody wants to improve this, here's the Japanese version (US version is a big reskin) about 5 minutes faster. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6SBpTtuzkk A ton of time is saved with both the HP reducing item mentioned above and by just zeroing out the HP on the particularly lengthy events instead of finishing them and making up the medals elsewhere.
