Anybody out there want to tackle this one? Its an obscure game, and buggy which should make for a good TAS.

Well, there's this discontinued WIP that defeats the first boss: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/879830503/traysia-test1.gmv Yeah, it is a buggy game for an RPG. For example, some chests can be opened repeatedly, which can freeze the game:

Thinking about giving this one a go in the near future. Another Genesis RPG I fondly remember playing growing up. Exceptional story, memorable soundtrack, but about as buggy as they come! I'm aware of the 'Stick' accessory stacking bug, and a money exploit in the Town of Adventurers in the 3rd Chapter. Aqfaq, what's up being able to open some chests repeatedly? Does the game freeze when you try to do it more than once?

IIRC You need to open a chest 255 times to freeze the game. (You should be able to find some RAM value that increases/decreases by 1 every time you open a chest.) Other than that, I know nothing interesting about the game. Good luck!

WOW. This game lags like crazy. My frame counter turns into a strobe light show every time Roy walks! Still, though, the game moves at a pretty quick pace. I'm going to look into RAM values and figure out how the RNG works on random battles.

New, updated WIP that finishes 378 frames ahead of the old test run's stopping point. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/49820700/Traysia%20TAS.gmv Slightly better walking optimization. The jagged diagonal walking wasn't any faster, so I left it out entirely, save for a few interesting spots. Random encounters operate on some kind of constant inner timer. Both of our WIPs had random encounters occur during the same points in time, despite being on different frames and positions on the map. There doesn't appear to be an obvious way to avoid them, save for entering towns or other exits on the map. Not a huge deal, since battles can be easily fled and don't take much time to input. I've got the rest of the first chapter routed; shouldn't take much time to do. Absolutely no grinding is necessary, and I plan on abusing the 'Stick' stacking bug to its full effect. Despite the game's hiccups, this run looks promising.

Chapter 1 finished! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/270918489/Traysia%20TAS.gmv Floyd and the so-called 'Master' were blitzed through. With the Power and Mage Stick's equipped, Magellen took no damage from the stronger Floyd. Not taking damage saves around 15 frames, each time. Chapter 2 is fairly simple, route-wise. Monsters hit significantly harder (Magellen took 60+ dmg in the first boss fight in a test run). Looks like I'll need to stack at least 4 Mage Sticks in order to nullify damage.

Yeah, I like it, because the amount of possible input patterns is significantly reduced. This is where "autoskip lag frames" is very handy. I don't have time to watch your WIPs, but since you improved the old WIP by a good amount, everything should be going really well. I like how some TASers have a distinct TAS flavor. You have obviously found your niche with these Genesis RPGs. Looking forward to more!

Appreciate the feedback! Growing up, I spent a lot of my time, after school and on weekends, renting RPGs for the old consoles. Me and some of my friends would stay up all night trying to beat them. I think between me and Janus, we'll eventually have the whole Genesis RPG library filled :D

THE KINGDOMS OF MILLENIUM
Lots of combing the desert for Roy & the Gang;) Route order was: Iyuve>Lyude>Selve Village>Mountain Cave>Back to Iyuve>Master Swordsman's Hut>Back to Lyude>Back to Iyuve AGAIN>Master Swordsman's Hut>Iyuve ONE MORE TIME>Northern Temple>...Iyuve. Can't complain about the BGM. This game, easily, has one of the best soundtracks on the Genesis. Stocked up on Mage Sticks for Magellan and Benegie, bringing their DEF up to around 140. Wizard's Helper was still able to hit for over 30 dmg (although I manipulated it to do less). Ch. 3 should be interesting, and considerably faster paced.

Quick update on Traysia. I have Ch. 3 finished, and the rest of the game completely routed. However, I've noticed that it may be possible to finish boss fights even faster by abusing Bellenue in battle. Unlike everyone else, Bellenue has a far shorter attack animation. I'm thinking that, if I can position enemies right next to her, she would be able to rapid-fire shots with very little animation and lag in between. Depending on how well this actually works, I may go back to the very beginning. edit: Talk about greased lightning! A sloppy, unoptimized test-run of Ch.3's boss battle beat my prior WIP by 673 frames! Looks like I'm going back and making some improvements:) In the meantime, here's my current, now obsoleted WIP completing Ch. 3: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/650762516/Traysia%20TAS.gmv edit2: Ch. 1 refinished. 1547 frames saved, so far.

Excellent, looking forward to seeing how this goes! I beat Traysia a few months ago, and while it's deeply flawed and buggy as hell (what were they thinking with those laggy movement routines?), I did get some enjoyment out of it.

Time for a long overdue update! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/136327733/Traysia%20NEW%20WIP.gmv Back to last stopping point - and now 24,820 frames ahead of my last WIP. Biggest improvement came from not having to run through the Thieves Cave in Ch. 3 to do the money exploit. Bellenue is the only one I have to shop for, which also means considerable time was saved buying things and equipping them. Battles now have a different feel to them than before. It's almost like watching a pseudo shooter instead of a turn-based RPG :D Bellenue rips through enemies, while Roy and the rest are strategically moved around the battlefield to draw foes in (Roy dying also causes a GAME OVER; gotta keep him alive). Like I mentioned earlier, the rest of the game is routed and seems rather easy to finish. Might have a submission ready here within a week!

Ch. 4 finished! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1404337418/Traysia%20TAS.gmv Had to go back and re-do the last half of Ch. 3. Specifically, I obtained the Gold Mirror in the Town of Thieves and the Gold Shield in the Devil's Temple in order to purchase a Black Arrow for Bellenue in Ch. 4. The added attack power was sorely needed, as I was only putting out a measly 25-30 damage against the Black Dragon - equating to over 80 rounds in playtesting. The Black Arrow cut that number down to a far more reasonable amount. 'Queen of the Witches' got put in her place in a timely manner, as well. ...very buggy chapter (even for this game's standards). Anyhow, this story is about to come to an end. Roy misses his sweetheart Traysia, while Benegie is getting a little hot & bothered. 'Atta boy, Roy.
If only you knew, Roy...She'd tear that armor off you in a heartbeat.

Finished! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/74307530/Traysia%20TAS.gmv https://www.dropbox.com/s/3rt23zwhxpm3y2c/Traysia%20Ch.%205.gs9 (Save state for Ch. 5). Floyd took a ton of hits, but still quickly fell to Edgar's Bellenue's auto-crossbow. Roy and Traysia are now finally reunited, and set to live happily ever after... BIG QUESTION, though. Both the ending and credits allow for input. Holding down the 'A' button through both will speed past the dialogue. This may be a 'duh' question, but am I required to speedrun through the ending to save on time?

As long as there is no input needed to continue the ending(example of being stuck on one line of dialogue.) There is no need to speed through the ending.

Thanks, Cooljay! edit: TAS now submitted. Please go vote if you found the movie entertaining, meh, or the new-age cure for insomnia. Thank you everyone for the feedback!
