Genesis Boogerman TAS

I like this game, because it is one of the games I had on my Sega console and was one of my favorites games ... And now, I did a TAS of this so they can enjoy it

Objetives

  • Emulator used: Gens 11b
  • Aims for fastest time
    • Use the "Tail-rocket" has many advantages for saving time and I use it for that
  • Takes no damage
    • In this run, I never take damage to save time, as it may lose an object that is important in-game and in this run
  • Ignores bonus
    • There is bonus that can be used after each stage and are ignored because they are not going to use in this run
  • Manipulates luck
    • In many parts of the game's monsters and where there should be monsters, are not there and that saves time

About of game

The hero "Boogerman" is a strip-snot man eructador noisy, gas launcher called Snotty Ragsdale. While living a normal life as an eccentric millionaire, his "stinky" nature to suit you wear the mask smelly hero Boogerman.

Skills:

  • Mucus: Boogerman can dig in your nose and throw snot with deadly accuracy. If you take a bottle of milk, you can spit faster than a bullet.
  • Belching: Culinary strength Boogerman allows you to keep and throw noisy gas from her mouth. If you eat a spicy paprika can also belch fire.
  • Farts: The back of Boogerman can release toxic gas clouds. If you eat a spicy paprika can also throw flaming gases or fly in the air with her butt rocket.
  • Strike Back: Boogerman has the ability to crush your enemies back. As we see, is being able to make up the filthiest thing to get rid of his enemies.

Comment about stages (About some)

  • Flatulent Swamps 2:
    • At this stage is where I pick up the object to fly (bottle of milk) and throw boogers and the ability to kill 2 enemies at once
  • The pits 1 - 4:
    • I like this stage because it was the shortest. And the use of "Tail-rocket" was very useful
  • Boogerville: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4
    • These stages are beautiful and difficult simultaneously. Since I had to save the "Gas" to use the "Tail-rocket" and without him. I couldn't finish the stage
    • In the stage 4, was the hardest, as I had to optimize and get enough of "Gas" to jump to a higher platform
    • I have saved a lot of time in this zone, because previously (In the previous run), was very extensive each stage without using the "Tail-rocket"
    • And now, I can improve this zone and save a lot time (minimum 3 minutes)
  • Mucous mountains: 1 - 2
    • Here is the same that The pits and Boogerville.. The use of "Tail-rocket" saved a lot time

Other comments

There are possibilities to improve this and then I'll try to work it and find some glitch in-game And if there is an improvement through a glitch, zips, tricks, etc .. Welcome it

feos: Replacing the submission file with the 4440-frame improvement.
feos: Votes are average, but in the thread only 1 comment mentioned "how not entertaining" the movie was. So I'm accepting it to Moons and publishing...

Finally! Looks good, nice use of flight. Only a question: how does that air-valve ladder work? Does it lose time when he builds it after levels? When it occurs?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Feos... At all levels, from "Flatulent swamps: Level 2" Taking into account this object (Bottle of milk) ... That has the effect of flight and ease of pulling mucus and kills 2 enemies at once I don't see a delay through this ... Because I made many attempts to try to optimize it and I think it is well optimized

Looks good, but I'm pretty sure you can skip more of the plungers to avoid building the bridge at the end of stages.

There's a floor clip you can do in the pits. I don't know where all it could be useful at, but it's really easy to do with the pepper and I do it all the time in stage 3. Here's an example of it happening with me falling through the floor. It's the only example I have a video of. http://www.twitch.tv/mecharichter/c/2154837

I'm pretty sure fireball gas does more damage than loogies, which could speed up several bosses. i.e. this run kills Booger Meister in 5 hits: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye3jxvimuYI#t=24m50s ... but in this run it takes 7. You could also take damage from boss attacks to get in attacks sooner. I'm also kind of curious if avoiding plungers/cowpies would speed up the bonus phase even if he doesn't build the bridge, because of the time it takes to count the score up. Voted yes for being a good run overall, but I think it has some clear ways it can be optimized.

I'm glad to see this game on the workbench, but I have some wellfounded concerns. I posted on the Boogerman thread a while back a short WIP of the first 3 levels with some information that I think you could have used here. First of all, jumping on trampolines slows you down, and you seem to jump on quite a lot of them for no real reason. Secondly, gathering too many plungers increases your time in the bonus screen. For example at the end of stage 1-2, I was 76 frames ahead. But because I only collected one plunger for that level, and you collected 8, I was able to start 1-3 119 frames ahead. Finally I stated that the fire powerup causes more damage to enemies/bosses that you don't seem to have used. I think you could cut down considerably on the time by using this powerup. Another thing to note; you might want to add different things to make the movie entertaining. For example, I found that you can slide on branches with a stuck animation, while not losing any speed. I'm only saying this so that maybe you will improve the run, a game in which I really want to see done. As for right now I won't vote, but I have no intention of doing the run myself because I have concerns about the ROM. Various glitches occurred when I tried to do this myself. But I do wish you good luck on improving this game!

I think the flame from flying also does damage, so that might be useful in some cases. I'm not sure how much though, I think it's as much as a booger. Re: The old thread wondering if the game is emulated correctly, the game on real consoles had a lot of weird bugs, especially when using cheat codes (i.e. getting stuck on bosses that failed to play their intro sequence).

It certainly has been improved, but it's still very sloppy and looks like it can be improved further. The way you move and react makes it seem like you're using the emulator's slowdown function instead of using Frame Advance. If that's the case, I would suggest using Frame Advance to be as accurate as possible.

But ... Always use the frame advance .__. May be sloppy, but I did the possible to improve it, I don't try to always do the same technique

How does it compare to existing WIPs now?

I compared previously with Exxonym's WIP, and I can improve only 2 frames faster (If my calculations don't fail) ... It has helped me a lot with the theme of flight, I discovered a shortcut to The pits 4... And the other levels improve with other tricks and shortcuts The bosses are improved for the belching and I can calculate when they would die, for not always launch belching or farting

Ok, I take back what I said then. There are still a lot of instances in the TAS where you could save plenty of time with flying, and just save time in general due to better movement. You use the trampolines often for example, and even at one point bounce a couple of times on the same trampoline. If I remember, if you take damage, you lose the pepper power up, so I'm not sure how viable it is to take damage in order to save time though.

Exactly... In some parts of the game, you will see it, if not used frame advance (See my Re-records and you'll realize what it cost me) I have tried to optimize and save time I lost in the first run In use of the flight on the trampoline is very fast, compared to the first run, and save time

Hey, I don't have a video to show you, but you can defeat Flyboy really fast with a glitch that I found. Basically at the very start of the fight, jump once and spit a lougie at him, then bounce on the trampoline over his head so youre behind him. After he does his 3 lougie spits, you can hit him from behind with a fireball while he moves to the other side of the screen, and he dies instantly. I'm not sure why this works, but I've tested it on SNES and Genesis and it definitely works. This will save you a bunch of time.
