Okay, I will :)
I'm still far from South Pole, but I managed to make this work;
how-> break the first cube, clip a little into the left ledge, crouch and shoot.
I want to show it in the next wip, but the power walk is a really time consuming technique, so it will take a little while.
I am old enough to know better, but not enough to do it.
Wow, that's insane. I never could have imagined these tricks.
I'm not surprised its possible. BTW, are you are aware of the trick to beat the last boss faster? I found the video, but the video appears to be unavailable. The guy who found it was bombman. I'm well aware of the U+D trick on the ladders, but it appeared to be useless.
EDIT: Watched it back, and just realised it desyncs at around frame 6200 for me.

Thank you, Mitjitsu. I read someone complaining about the use of (REV00), so I'm using the (REV01) of the rom, that may be the cause of your desync.
Do you think the trick can be useful in other boss fights as well? I'm about to fight Drácula so I'll PM the guy who found that trick to see if he wants to share it.
I noticed that the bosses have "hit points" instead of "health points", so I can't think of any faster ways to beat them.

Such a technique would mean to cancel out the invincibility time right? Maybe hit pause, then fire again, or something like that?
Did not try it my self but if that works it would mean that the enemy would never be able to move, and the sword would always be stuck in the wall, right?

Searching for "last boss glitch", I found this video (around 4:25).
I can't understand what the guy is talking about (German?), but it seems he's using the plunger to do the glitch. I'll test it.

Thank you, thommy3.
The Plunger, even creating a lot of lag on Dracula’s fight, is 16 frames faster than any other weapon.
The new WIP is still far from the South Pole skip, but I want to show a new trick to collect the Viking Key;

* walk is faster than belly slide -> slide, get up and power walk
Wow! I was a bit surprised I hadn't stumbled upon this ever when playing this game, but I see that it requires up+down.
The movie is looking fantastic, puzzle room skip and viking key trick and all.

Thank you, guys.
The power walk (um... I need to find another name for this trick) still have something I can't figure out, and it's exactly this; when I need to press up+down.
The way I'm doing, I have to repeat the up+down every 19th frame, but sometimes it lasts up to 40 frames.
Don't know whats the requirement for it to last for so many frames...
anyway, I'm on my way to South Pole again, and the up+down can be used to show off while I ride the "thing that flies".

Yeah, those bats are really annoying, the last one still is at least.
I'm still on South Pole, but testing the up+down on Hideout I noticed the music is completely different on REV01.
edit;
the South Pole skip as promised, and the new Hideout music;

Um... I can use the plunger on Pete with no time loss, well, since I don't need to switch weapons, I think it will be even faster.
So, that seems to be it, see you in the workbench in a few days :)

Apologies for the necro-post, but I managed to reproduce the final boss glitch. I've uploaded a video here:
Link to videoIt seems that if you land a hit on the boss as the sword he throws is about to hit the wall, it delays the impact significantly. Using this, you can defeat the boss in one round! II haven't been able to reliably reproduce this, so there may be other factors (possibly opening the menu?)
EDIT:
Under normal circumstances, the sword the boss throws rotates as it flies. At the time it reaches the wall, the game checks to see if the sword is pointing directly towards or diagonally towards the wall. If the sword is pointing in any other direction, it rotates in place then impacts the wall.
However, if you hit the boss before the sword hits the wall, the sword stops rotating. If it is pointing towards the wall (straight or diagonally) it will impact as normal. If it's pointing in a different direction, it will jam in place for a long time before it starts rotating again to impact the wall.
Doing this, you can defeat the boss in one round! Jamming the sword gives you just about enough time to do this before he finishes retrieving the sword. If you're playing this in real-time and miss a bubble-gum shot, you'll need to land the last two shots in the next round to finish him.

Um, that trick alone can save ~1000 frames, but my run have other mistakes I'm willing to fix;
1) I was using a wrong memory address for Donald's speed
Mitjitsu's belly slide is in fact faster than my "power walk"...
2) The world record uses "death to save time"
I need to test that trick too.
3) Bizhawk is the new standard for most of the systems
I'll try to update my runs to reflect that.
So, a new run is already in progress.
I am old enough to know better, but not enough to do it.
Link to video
2) is probably this "wrong warp" horizontal "zip" I found in Transylvania I assume? The kinda shitty part is that the death makes it only barely faster than just doing the climb normally from what I tested. (apparently saves bout .5 secs or so) You spawn in the next room and the death happens afterwards. Due to that, I wouldn't exactly say the death is used to save time but it's just a side effect of the zip.
Regardless, I was wondering if anyone was gonna improve the TAS after the Garuzia strat was figured out, so it's nice to see you're picking it back up again Dooty :) I was planning on posting about this wall skip here but forgot about it...

Thanks for explaining how the trick works, PPLToast.
I didn't test it yet, but visually your trick looks a lot faster than going all the way up.
Now, about the new run; I already got the Red Plunger and I'm about to get ou of the Temple.
The Belly Slide is indeed faster than the Power Walk, but not always;
when going from right to left it's still faster to Power Walk.
Also, another mistake; there's a counter that when reaches zero lets you perform many of Donald's actions.
(like slide, shoot or recover from damage animation)
I didn't find it on the old run, so I could only guess the right time to slide, for example.
edit;
Your trick is indeed faster than the old strategy, 60 frames faster to be precise, so it will be in the new run.
I'm now trying to "hex edit" the old Dracula's fight into the new run and I'm 477 frames ahead.
edit2;
It was not possible to hex the Dracula's fight, but I was able to splice some "auto scroller" sections.
The new run is almost done, I'm about to face Pete ~1000 frames ahead.
(I'm redoing some parts and I'm not sure how many frames it will save)

I'm restarting the run from scratch...
The new memory adress I found seems accurate, but I was doing the Power Walk wrong.
That's why I thought Belly Sliding was faster, but it's not. There's a rule here;
Donald moves at a maximun of 31 speed units from left to right.
From right to left he can move at a maximun of 37 speed units.
Now, at 28 speed units he can repeat a Power Walk to get maximun speed again!
While Belly Sliding the rule also applies, but he loses its maximun speed a lot faster. :(

Can't you just use sub pixel references? I remember when I was doing a Super Mario Bros 3 TAS. Where I'd often get misleading speed values. However when I looked at pixel coordinates I'd find I was clearly ahead/behind.

Thank you for the heads up, Mitjitsu.
Subpixels are something I never knew how to use, or felt the need to use, but it may explain some inconsistencies I'm facing.
I found some memory addresses for Donald's speed, but they just "seem" accurate.
What is more weird about Donald's speed is; why he can move faster to the left?
Maybe a disassembly of the game will explain it, but it's beyond my expertise.
In any case, I'm using a new "Power Walk" method and I'm pretty sure I'm going as fast as I can go now.
edit;
I can't find the subpixel address, but there might be one because Donald moves like this;
-> 4-4-5 pixels
<- 5-5-6 pixels
while going at a constant speed.
final edit;
Looks like going faster to the left is not an intended feature of the game after all. :(
Playing it normaly, Donald will walk, run or slide, wether it's right/left or left/right,
at the same maximum speed! The Power Walk kind of glitches that maximum speed.

Well, I was...
Now I'm about to face the Viking Ghost, ~1300 frames ahead!
Something I noticed on the failed attempt is that you can kill him faster with Popcorn.
This time around I'm collecting more popcorns, and I already have plenty to defeat him.
edit;
Um... Popcorn is indeed faster against the Viking Pirate, but just the first shot.
I was wasting more time collecting the popcorn than it would save on that fight. :(
Good thing I could fix this mistake quite easily with TAStudio.
I'm still about to fight him, but ~1350 frames ahead now.
