Umm... Isn't this a thread about Sonic 1 rather than whether SonicCenter is good with checking? Some of the things you said are interesting, but shouldn't they be in another thread?

Just completed Green Hill Zone 1 in 0:24. It's pretty much identical to xebras (it would have to be I guess). Although I am 1 frame slower.

You didn't collect all the coins in the loop, either ;) . If you doubt you will be able to improve any of the Green Hill Zones (as I do), I don't care if you just use mine. SY1 and 2 and L1 probably aren't worth redoing, either, unless you really want to.

Some experimentation has revealed that the pistons in M1 aren't always synchronized across runs. I've managed to spawn them within a range of 4 frames so far. (With a minimal time of 14:51 from first motion to the second piston first rising a pixel after coming to a resting state on the ground.) I don't know what causes this variability, though it seems likely they are spawned when you pass a certain point early on, and if I simply waited at the beginning of the level I'd be able to spawn them as late as I liked.

Thanks for the help with Star Light zone 3 etc. I've always known about what I think is a quicker way to finish off Star Light 1. Probably you've already seen it and maybe it isn't possible because of the way you jump on to the final springer - it's where Sonic runs across the finish line backwards at high speed (without being in a ball)

It doesn't matter if you are balled or not in that situation, you lose velocity at the same rate either way.

I know. But Sonic does not get the ring box which slows him down slightly in the other video. My method definitely looks faster, but I might be wrong... I've made a movie of it (my first one :D) but where can I upload it? EDIT: I've just recorded the time from the final springer to the finish line in both vids, twice, using a stopwatch (because I don't know how to see frame numbers or anything!). I got times of 2.57 and 2.50 for the current vid, and times of 2.17 and 2.13 for my vid.

I understand that about what xebra said but didn't get the point. Was he suggesting that he knew Ouzo was slow but didn't say? I've been playing around with the finish to Star Light 1 and uploaded 2 files to filespace. The first one, here, was my original finish to Star Light 1. However I started to think that this had only been possible because of the way I jumped on to the final springer - Ouzo jumped down the final ramp and jumped onto the springer quickly. So I tried doing that and still finishing quickly, and eventually managed it, here. The time from the springer to the finish line is quicker than the other 2 vids and cuts half a second (real time) off the old method. I'm using Gens v test9a and there isn't a frame count option, I guess I need a newer version. I didn't do the first part of the level too quickly because I just wanted to get to the end, but hopefully you can bear with that as it's only about 3 seconds slower both times :)

Yeah, you should get the test9c, it has frame count and frame advance. Very very useful. In old versions there is no frame counter, but Esc (pause) shows the current frame number. It's a lot more bothersome than the the onscreen frame counter, so getting the new version is recommended. I'm in a hurry now so I haven't watched the videos. Will do later.

Are you having trouble with the lava bounce in M1, Ouzo? I had no freaking clue how lucky I was in the first two versions of my video, it worked on the first try in both cases. But for the life of me, I can't get a long enough lava bounce when I do the first half of the level quickly. I've tried 2000 (no kidding) different approaches to this one jump and they all either bounce me backwards, or not far enough forwards, and I get crushed. Oh, and speaking of the very first version of my Sonic video, what a steaming pile of feces it was. It looks like a speed run. Here's to newbs!

I don't see how you could draw that conclusion from what I said. The point was you said the ring box slowed him down. I gave my opinion, which disagreed with yours.

I'm actually messing around with a wall glitch in the same level. I don't know if it saves any time though. Here it is. I've managed to get into the room with the 5 tv boxes, but I haven't been able to reproduce it yet. My version of MZ1 in the movie is suboptimal, BTW. I just wanted to get to the spot.

That's a nice glitch. It's safe to assume I don't know any glitches for this game (since I don't), so keep me up to date in that respect as we progress through the game.

How's the progress so far? Was my star light vid helpful? Have you figured out the lava bounce or been able to exploit the glitch yet? I didn't like time-attacking marble 1 because of the randomness of the lava bounce.

I'm about 2/3 done with Marble Zone 1 and am 23 frames ahead of xebra's previous version so far. I haven't looked into the affecting the randomness of the squishers, so there's that. I'll see if I can finish it soon. BTW, I think that glitch is useless unless it does something I haven't tried yet.

I was hoping for more, mainly because I thought perhaps the part right after the falling blocks was on a universal timer. Is that not the case?

I'm at a dilemma. Right after the 'pushing the block into the hole part', I'm 15 frames faster, but I have to slow down right before the lava in order to catch the edge of the floor. That causes me to lose some frames. I was almost able to skip the 'getting hurt to be pushed upwards' part, but I was literally 1 frame short. I'll just probably redo the entire level.
