zaphod77, if there is anything you would like me to translate, just ask me.
I don't know much about this, but I would like to know more. Could you link me to some sources?
BTW, #4 is "Choro Q Wonderful!". The Choro Q series is popular in Japan.
as i'm not a nicovideo member, i haven't really spotted anything i'd like offhand.
However, i noticed that ripping stuff from NV and uploading to youtube without asking so others can watch it is very common.
And this does ruffle quite a few feathers on the other side of the pond. It's more common in the case of certain other video types, especially when someone tries to give english subs to a japanese song.
While a number of them do come to youtube to give themselves a wider audience, others prefer nicovideo, and will not upload anywhere else.
NOw that they have branched out into english, it has become easier for us to join them, I think. and I am considering making an account there.
BUried in the horrible english of this page http://savemiku.wikia.com/wiki/New_Objective%2BMessage
is a statement that they want people to get permission, and as long as the lyrics aren't mangled they are usually willing to give it.
Generally if you contact one and say something like 'Hi. Awesome video. may i upload it onto my youtube account if I link back to your original?" they will usually say yes.
Also it's a good idea to send them your translation (if you have one) and have them check it and fix it up.
It was uploaded just a while ago.
August 2012 TAS Ranking:
Link to video
The entry barrier for 30th place for August 2012 is over 30K. A sign of growing activity again.
I usually add the latest TAS ranking to the first post before anyone mentions it.
All of those videos had been submitted to TASvideos so they have been redistributed according to TASvideos' redistribution policy.
Republication of movies from this site is only allowed under the following conditions:
Video and audio content must not be changed (including the pointers to this site).
The movies must be prominently labeled as tool-assisted speedruns.
The actual player(s) (always shown at this site) must be properly credited.
Some of my unsubmitted videos have been uploaded to nicovideo without my permission, although I usually welcome it. On the other hand, I have also uploaded stuff from nicovideo to Youtube without permission although I didn't have ill intent and would delete it if you contacted me.
Such stuff includes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN_nZ2Klgrg Kirby Amazing Mirror RTA in 28 minutes by 黒パン | kuropan
http://www.youtube.com/user/MarioSunshineTAS/videos Super Mario Sunshine TAS by バトラ | batora
So you were the manager of that channel: MarioSunshineTAS. I very appreciate that because I'm interested in TAS of Super Mario Sunshine. Thanks for your dedication to TAS(and recovery of Renebalow's lost TAS movies)!
I used to use this page to see and translate nicovideo comments.
http://nico.xii.jp/comment/?url=[sm ID]
But apparently it doesn't work anymore since nicovideo changed their site. Is there an alternative?
On the topic of Japanese nicovideo users uploading others' TASes to nicovideo -- One person has contacted me, calling this problem's topic "Reproduction". Also, about copyright.
- Usually they freely upload anything that was submitted to TASvideos (submitting makes it Creative Commons 2.0 material -- anyone can spread it if they give credit).
- Sometimes, a few people upload videos from Youtube to nicovideo that weren't previously submitted here. I have read that videos uploaded to Youtube also become Creative Commons 2.0 material, but ... apparently not really? I have seen someone upload one of my videos to nicovideo without my permission, and he was told off in the scrolling comments (i.e. "You didn't get permission, why did you upload this, remove this, do you not have any respect").
And I believe you cannot simply reupload random Youtube videos to your own channel (can you? I haven't done the research, but I believe Youtube will simply remove duplicate uploads? -- it also has some counter-measures preventing you from uploading the exact same file twice; it can detect certain audio tracks...).
Anyway.. somehow, uploading to Youtube makes it different from uploading to Tasvideos.
If it isn't the CC license, is it the TASvideos policies which everyone abides by?

- Lastly, and just as a side note, I was disappointed that my latest Kirby & The Amazing Mirror TAS has only reached 2,000 views on Youtube. The point of waiting a month for submission wasn't that the nicovideo upload reaches 130,000 in the end. I had hoped waiting will mean the Youtube video gets more attention.
I guess the reason behind it is the whole nicovideo community hasn't been following my Youtube activity and simply didn't know the video has been out for over a month. It just disappoints me -- I wish my Youtube videos get that many views, not the nicovideo uploads by independent people.
I do not know if I should keep on putting these "Do not upload to nicovideo" notes in my videos or not.

Will just add my 2 cents here, but:
-You're not the only one. My Kirby 64 TAS had 4k views on YT and over 220k on niconico. The audience is just not the same. As long as proper credits is due, I don't think you should worry about this. The goal is to entertain people with your run, not making money out of them. I still get that you want more people drawn to your channel, so that's why SP (and sometimes myself) add this little thing in our description:
Please do not reprint on Nicovideo.
ニコニコ動画への転載を禁じます。
So far, Japanese people have respected this. I don't know if it really has an impact, but hey, it's worth a try.

Thank you to have put that. But I think that they made a mistake for January 2013 they put back TAS of January 2012 if to look at you in the video.

Yeah.
In fact, judging from the comments, it is the work of a troll/spammer who is well-known to the Nico TAS community. Don't bother asking.
By the way, you guys didn't forget the 2012 yearly ranking, right?

January 2013 ranking:

Nicovideo rankings in general tend to attract weird TASes and videos. Yet #7 is in a league of its own. It's ... I can't even explain. I'm guessing the actual TAS portion is only a few seconds, since most of it is (joke) explanation. Just watch the original video below if you don't mind losing some IQ points.

February 2013 ranking:

Nothing out of the ordinary here, other than that 30th place has 21102 points, down from 62633 points of last month's 30th place, and two of the best TASes to exist come in at numbers 1 and 2.
