Although it doesn't seem like you hit the last boss as much as you can? i see a a few moments where he doesn't flicker for like 1/1.5 seconds. The rest, was incredibly fast and entertaining.

The big Robotnik's hit detection is a little weird. You can only hit him when he's in certain positions, I believe.

The flame in the back is dangerous. Because of the recoil you cannot always jump as soon as you land because you would die. I think. Edit: Or maybe it's just the arms and legs. I can't be bothered to check.

Hehe.. I tried the same strategies on console. Didn't work very well for me. I would die when I stood behind Robotnik

Q, do you have any intention of making a new video with the new Oil Ocean trick? Hopefully the levels afterwards wouldn't desynch horribly and would just require minor modifications ...

Er, new Oil Ocean trick? Which one is that, then? To answer your question, I am already working on a new video, starting from the very beginning to go even faster than before. I've already managed to get EHZ1 down to 17 seconds by sheer luck (went through the loop at the end, got a speed boost from jumping at the right spots, and managed to run straight through the diagonal back-spring). I still need to do a bit more testing on EHZ 2 to see if there's a better route I can take (even if there isn't, I can still use loop jumping to save a tiny bit more time).

Are there any plans on doing a run collecting all the emeralds and unlocking Super Sonic? I realise that this will probably not be faster overall than doing a normal run, however I would definetly be intrested in seeing what super can really do. As pretty much all of the entertainment would come from the differences of using Super Sonic in the stages, rather than the collecting of the emeralds, it would probably be preferable to unlock him at the earliest point in the game. Although it would make the first two acts really quite dull it is possible to get Super at the end of emerald hill enableing him to be used for the rest of the game. Of course one of the sound test codes could also be used to produce the desired ability, but this probably isnt considered an option as it is cheating. Special stages arn't really exciting either, but if playing with Sonic and Tails both characters could be used at once, to make them slightly more watchable. I do hope this will one day be done, but dont worry, the current run entertains me enough already. Well, apart from sky chase of course. Why couldn't they fly a jet? Good luck on the new run.

I see no problem with this if you do a playaround movie instead of a time attack; in fact, I would prefer it this way.

I'd prefer the cheat than to waste time collecting all the emerald manually too. If you're starting again Q, could you do Sky Chase (if/when you get to it) moving to the music instead of not collecting rings? I think it would be more interesting - or at least a change from the old movie.

What about killing all the enemies and grabbing zero rings?

All the enemies cannot be killed and all the rings cannot be taken, I think. The music idea is good too. But I think that whatever Q decides to do, there is no stopping this level from being boring. Only more or less so.

Woo! Just watched all the Sonic game speedruns. Excellent :D Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next. I'm a fan of games that are played ungodly fast, and Sonic was designed for "whoa what was that"... any other speed run recommendations? Oh yeah, and... Hi, I'm new :P

Well if you like the Sonic runs, there is another fast run with Sparkster for SNES. There is a link on the main page for the best (starred) movies, that's a good place for someone new to start. I also highly recommend the NES Bionic Commando (called Hitler no Fukkastu here) video, the SNES Super Mario World shorter video, and the NES Battletoads 2-Player Warpless (which is not starred). There are quite a few other good runs, but these have the biggest sense of speed that I can remember. And don't worry, we were all new once.

Gavin Ward/SprintGod's S3&K run, here. That's the best speedrun I've ever watched ^_^

I'd say the MMX runs are pretty fast too. MMX2 in particular because it makes good use of all the weapons to get around quickly.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Wow. Thanks for the suggestions :) And in the meantime, I should also thank Quietust for the excellent Sonic 2 speedrun. I've adapted to a few of the tricks you used, but it's really hard when playing at normal speed :) ...but I'm the type of person that could never make a speed run, cause I wouldn't have the patience of performing them at 6% or whatever. I only got the passion of watching them :D EDIT: watched MMX, MMX2, and Sparkster to my collection. Excellent!

Finished Hill Top Zone 1. So far, every level except Chemical Plant 1 and Aquatic Ruin 2 has been improved by at least 1 time unit. The total level-time gained is currently 7.3 seconds, though the run itself is only 5.5 seconds ahead because I ended up getting a continue at the end of Chemical Plant 2 (though my goal is not the fastest possible overall start->end time, but the fastest possible time in each level). I managed to find an additional ~15 frame improvement in Hill Top 1, though doing so managed to mess up the randomness in Tails's catch-up behavior and eliminate a ~30 frame speedup near the end of the level.

In mystic cave 1, at 9:27(8 seconds into the act)on the current video , you can jump from the spikes you land next to, to the ledge you have to 'climb' up to on the moving things with spikes at the end. I did it in my attempt at a speed run(i stopped when i saw yours lol). Good work btw, it's quite something. I started a no-rings video, and i've done EHZ1,2 and CPZ1 so far... but it keeps on desynching SO much, more than when i did the speed run. What can i do to help prevent this happening.. anything? It's really fustrating.
