Alrighty, as luck would have it, Misteroo still had all the old files. Here are all of them. These were recorded either on zsneswv1.36 or earlier. Here's the old SNESLypics thread if anyone cares: http://p067.ezboard.com/fstarfoxdotorgfrm28.showMessage?topicID=146.topic Misteroo never posted the results for the time he hosted. Boo. http://eni-dmd.com/tomp/oml-smetroid.zip EDIT: Took the rom out. Dunno how you'll find out which one it is, though, now. image.bmp - A screenshot Misteroo took. Not much proof in itself. The videos show what's needed. oml-smetroid.srm - I think this is the saved data file. I dunno. oml-smetroid.zmv - Someone who wasn't Kavir oml-smetroid.zm2 - Someone who wasn't Kavir oml-smetroid.zm4 - Someone who wasn't Kavir oml-smetroid.zm9 - Someone who wasn't Kavir oml-smetroid.zm3 - Kavir's movie oml-smetroid.zst - The savestate Note that after every one of the .zm* movies, you can regain control and beat the game in 3 minutes. Finally, here's Kavir bemused at his replay, taken just a few minutes ago: http://tetratech.ath.cx/~kavir/METROID.JPG NOW, all that's left is to figure out what actually triggers this glitch.

Not to be much of a stickler. But don't link to roms. However indirectly.

I played around with some of these, and I've concluded that either he used a hacked rom, a hacked save-state, or the glitch has absolutely nothing to do with dying in that station. Because I tried using all sorts of key combinations when the time limit's up, (including up+down/left+right) I tried dying in several different positions (including actually walking/standing on the warp to the ship and in the middle of wall-jumping) and I even managed to die by Ridley's hands. Every single continue brought me back to the space station, and while I only continued on to clear the station once, it didn't end the game when I entered Samus' ship on Zebes. *shrug* Maybe I'm not approaching the problem from the right angle, though. I don't really know anything about finding glitches.

Me neither. I'm not trying to start some SUPER RETARDED HOAX or anything. I just wanted to share this and I'd like to see if anyone could find this out, because it was hilarious to see. EDIT: Haze solved it. Requires an emulator with savestates and movies. Oh well. Still hilarious to see it work. http://www.happybivouac.com/supermetroid.txt

problem is you had to mess around with system save (that cannot be done on console).. i foresee no publishing.

It also would appear to require a broken emulator which does NOT store the cartridge SRAM in savestate files.

In my opinion, movies where you push Up+Down aren't possible on a console either (neither are savestates but that's not the point here). Okay, maybe you can dismantle the controller to push both at once. Then let's assume it's possible to dismantle the cartridge while I'm playing and wipe the SRAM or something. Actually, I think what disqualifies this method is that it's ONLY possible if you use a movie file. Isn't that bizarre? It's possible if you record a movie of it... but it's impossible if you don't record! It sounds like something out of Quantum Physics, though it's actually some obscure movie-recording programming bug in both emulators which no one will bother investigating since it's harmless. Even if you somehow wiped clean the SRAM while playing on a console, you'd never be able to do this because you can't record movies! (actually, you'd get the bug where you respawn on rainy Zebes, but that isn't as impressive) If you really wanted to, you could connect some machine to the controller port so it can perform all the other speedruns on this site with perfect reflexes, but you could never do this movie trick on a console. So that's the real reason it shouldn't be published. Still, I think it's quite funny to watch anyway.

I'm still way too busy with work and my new fiancee to make progress on this run. I'll need at least a week before I post an update. Sorry guys. I do, however, have a hilarious situation that I must tell everyone. At work today my boss was having some problems with the software we use. Before I continue I must make it known that my boss is a single, well-to-do man in his 40's who consistently goes on cruises with his "friends". In the break room he's always watching some show about drapes and even though he's still in the closet it's rather obvious what type of lifestyle he has chosen for himself. Anyway, today his application crashed due to a buffer overflow and as always the buffer was dumped to a txt file. I swear on my life that the following actually happened. He walked right over to me (I'm the computer expert...) and exclaimed "I'm trying to help a customer but something just buffed my dumper".

I see there's a lot of fellow Arfenhouse fans in the...house. Aye, highly fitting! I've actually experimented some with the beam glitch when I first saw it on David Wonn's site (I've put up a ton of minor glitches on David Wonn's site, including one that's used in the Mega Man X speed run. ^_~), and I did happen to come across one time that I was able to escape Zebes at my own leisure when I did it in Brinstar. I'd tried to replicate it for a while, but I couldn't get it to work again. I think that this glitch would be an interesting demonstration. However, for use in speed run purposes, I don't think that it'd be all that good. Kudos for the glitch, though. That's something I never would've thought of doing. I've always been like, freaked out with that timer thing. o_o;

Not really. Haze Rever: Don't forget to mention you have to have load SRAM from ZST unchecked.

I'm not sure if your boss would like too see this post... Even if it's funny it's not a good idea to reveal such things of another person (or at least of your own boss) to the world.

Is Dunkinbean some godly flash animator? Is Dunkinbean responsible for one of my most favoritest things to ever come from the internet? Is Dunkinbean showing some sort of interest in SNES games? Who the hell is Dunkinbean, anyways?
