So...I restarted the run again, due to having nothing much to do, and I used the newest version of DeSmuME. Unfortunately, not only am I having worse luck, but also several room transitions are delayed by ~14 frames. Anyway, I'm near the end of Chapter 3, atm.

Yay, new emulator revision! Also, for some weird reason, I have better luck on that revision for absolutely no reason whatsoever so far! WIP

Since entertainment is not a priority, I'll skip all optional items along with the flashlight and buzz saw, saving ~4 minutes, but making the run dark as crap. I can't skip the rifle, since I'll run out of bullets for the room without it.

If you're not that far into the game, I think it would be better to get the flashlight for the sake of the viewer ya know?

I'm at the end of the 3rd chapter (again). Strangely enough, after restarting the run the 8th chapter, I've been doing chapter 3/4 repeatedly. I don't think I'll restart now because I'll go insane if I have to redo chapter 2/3 (lots of luck needed). Sorry.

Chapter 3 reluctantly done. Due to worse luck at the banshees, I had to waste frames moving the camera to kill them in 1 swing.

Remember the chapter 6 clipping glitch? Well, I found ~4 more places you can clip, but only the one used in the run matter. All of them are in chapter 6. 1 of them in a washroom, and the rest all relate to wheelchairs. I still can't go OoB though, but I'll try and find one that can. And no, I'm only up to chapter 4 still, just playing around atm finding stuff.

Thanks to a better computer than the one I had from the above posts, I was able to actually turbo through the dsm (rather than being the same speed but with choppy video). I can now confirm that the enemies can be manipulated by changing the NDS system time. Which means the run would have to restart again, but due to how most of the enemies spawn locations don't really have a noticeable effect on the run (other than causing/reducing ~14 frames of lag between room transitions) I think a possible approach for this is to make an optimal input file of each room before splicing them together and finding the right RTC value that would allow it to sync.

I don't think one needs to manipulate starting conditions further than initial inventory / initial level layout (including level count if that is randomized at start).

Sorry for bumping, but I got the idea of using infinite health cheats for exploring, and I found out that it's possible to get OoB in chapter 3: The Infant Ward by using the worms to push you out: Also, I think it's worth skipping the gun and shotgun; I broke chapter 4 using this trick lol. Edit: Oh, and you have to clip OoB for this to work, since otherwise you can't enter the lift. Finally tested the magnum. It seems to do the same damage as the rifle. Also I'm definitely thinking that skipping the shotgun and gun is worth it because you get the machine gun later rather quickly, and it takes far too long to grab the (shot)gun. Edit 3: Chapter 7 is skippable too now. Which means no machine gun. The problem is that I cannot simply use the sniper to reach all of the mouths at the next chapter's boss, so unless I somehow find a way to skip chapter 8, I'm going to either get the shotgun, or machine gun. Edit 4:Based on the encode, it takes 2 minutes 20 seconds starting from the end of the elevator cutscene to the lift if I do chapter 4 as intended. It takes 55 seconds to get from the cutscene to the shotgun (and I assume around the same to get back). Which means unless I can do the skip in under 30 seconds, it's faster to do chapter 4 as intended if I were to grab the shotgun. It takes 35 seconds to grab the handgun. It takes 42 seconds to grab the rifle (with 4 ammo left). I suppose I can check how long it takes to grab the machine gun, but the major problem is that the mouth boss at chapter 8 needs tons of bullets (and 16 shotgun shells isn't enough). It took ~12 seconds for 16 shotgun shells, 4 rifle bullets, and a machine gun. I'll have to test using only shotgun and rifle vs. only machine gun.

Edit: It takes ~2 minutes and 18 seconds to get through Chapter 7 as intended along with grabbing the machine gun. Also, it's not worth backtracking to utilize the skip in Chapter 7 if you get the machine gun. Edit 2: Chapter 8 has 20 mouths. Each have 12 HP for a total of 240. Machine gun does 3 damage per bullet, so I need at least 80 bullets if I use that only. Somehow, despite it being a machine gun, it also benefits from the rapid fire trick. Edit 3: I think it's worth skipping the gun, shotgun and rifle. Chapter 8 boss died in 20 seconds using only the machine gun, compared to 12 seconds with the other guns as well. I only took damage 3 times as well. It's definitely worth skipping 3 guns (which take over 2 minutes combined just to save 8 seconds). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpth6DdW6zE Sorry for the terrible angles; the rapid fire glitch made the aim stuck at the top righthand corner for most of the time. Edit 4: Cleaver v2 has 144 HP, and the revolver inflicts 27 for headshot. Machinegun and nightstick inflicts 9 for the head. Wheelchair v2 has 216 HP, and the damage from said bullets also apply. Edit 5: Wow...I tried simply skipping the Cleaver v2, and it worked. Seems they forgot to lock the exit and elevator buttons for this particular fight. You can't escape for the first 3 bosses, however. I found out he respawns like other enemies when you reenter the room. There's also no boss music from the first fight. I think they treated him like a normal foe for this particular encounter. Edit 6: The clown heads with green tipped tongues have 32 HP, inflict 4 damage, and with a well timed slash of the night stick I inflicted 15 damage.

I added more information to the game resource page. I additional found that you could skip the last cutscene by going to options, then press resume shortly before said cutscene begins.

I agree, it's definitely faster, even if it makes that one fight slower.

For the majority of the cases. Oddly, that comment I made by then about turning 45 degrees at stairwells still seems to apply; my attempts to use the above turned out far slower at that particular spot. Edit: rtcStartNew 2010-OCT-12 00:03:00:000 seems to work good enough. I tried up to 20 minutes+, and the majority failed at the 2nd chapter last zombie. This date and time seemed to work well including the 3rd room of chapter 3. Edit2: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/25015443974855927 Chapter 5 now. I do not have the knowledge to find how exactly does time influence RNG, so I just used trail and error instead. I tried my best to implement every trick known so far, including the turning, so despite the randomness it should still be optimized regarding movement.

Edit: This also resets my health and ammo to that of the beginning of the chapter. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a better health location than post chapter 7, so I wasn't able to use this to "heal". Oh, and this also removed the "Gramophone Record" from my inventory. :P Edit2: This crashes the game at the start of chapter 9, but since the crash occurs AFTER the game saves, I can still progress by resetting. The cutscene takes 20 seconds, so a reset should still be faster.

I actually went ahead and used cheats to find out all floors that had maps. Interestingly, the rooftop has a map: However, I never managed to locate this map when I played. Anyone have a clue on where it might be? Oh, and the courtyard/basement (chapter 5,11,14) doesn't have a map, even when cheats were used to unlock others.

I can't seem to upload my WIP since it went over 2MB. Anyways... The 4th room of chapter 10 seems to be the only room outside chapter 3 to use the keycard, and it's only if you wanted to backtrack to the previous room. I waste 10 frames at that room to avoid getting hit since the leeches at the end of the chapter would kill me otherwise with the current RNG. I cannot splice the input from chapter 5 to chapter 11 because apparently the fences are of a slightly different length. Also: Link to video I honestly never seen anyone post nor mention this so I assume it's obscure. Edit: For some reason, changing 022661F9 at certain rooms allowed me to walk through walls.

You could go old-school and upload it to Microstorage. It appears to support movie files of up to 8 MB. Does that Chapter 12 strategy really skip the boss entirely? That almost seemed too easy.

Edit: The green-tipped banshees have 32 HP, and other than being lucky and having them at certain spots there's seem to be no way to kill them without losing time. After messing around a bit, I discovered that not only do they don't seem to have any weak spots (so no x3 damage), but also the nightstick hits them rapidly without cooldown (once again, if aim is right and they're at the right place). I'll try to reduce the slow down so it won't be as noticeable, but... Edit2: It seems the green zombies, if they spawned at rather bad locations, can still be avoided. They stop moving when they use their ranged attack, so by manipulating them to use that they could potentially be avoided.

I also didn't list key items, ammo, health, etc. Edit: 02266000 is text for the buttons Edit2: The weapon/item/map flags are all binary. 204FEA8 - Changing this to FF makes you unkillable for some reason. 204FEE8 - Seems to be some kind of offset; changing it to a high value pushes me far from the map while a value like 0 makes me walk through walls. 22234A23 - No idea, but changing it to certain values cause it to always display the chapter titlecard every time I move through certain doors. 22234A60 - Control Type, Y Axis Invert, Heart Beat (Quiet) flag 22234A61 - Brightness, Heart Beat (Normal/Off), Music flag 22234A70 - Weapon flags 22234A71 - 1,2,3,4,5 floor west building map flags; Also flag for if notepad exists 22234A72 - 6,7,Roof west, 1,2 east building map flags 22234A73 - 4,5,6 east building map flags 22234A74 - Top item list flags (except for the notepad) 22234A75 - Bottom item list flags Edit3: There's an ammo on the floor at the last room of Chapter 10 that's unreachable. Also: This door for some reason is glitched, and reentering the previous hall takes me back to other side for no reason. Edit5: I can confirm it's completely possible to kill a 32 HP banshee using the nightstick WITHOUT slowing down whatsoever, but it really requires the Banshee to be at the right spots at the right times. Worse case scenario will be it approaches at a wierd angle, and I'm forced to use the machine gun (which slows down every shot due to recoil).
