This sucks. Even with Bandana you still actually need at least 1 bullet to infinite it which we can't get. No point in finding an OoB until someone can think up a solution. The only way to get past this would be to beat Wolf but then you would actually waste more time going back. I'd really appreciate it if someone could work this out. Just use gameshark with level 10 card or walk though walls and see if you can pickup the Stinger without doing any boss fights or even just see if you can find an area to get the bonus life from Wolf/trick the game into thinking you beat her.

I forgot to say there is another small glitch but not sure on how it could be used. You can stand on the tank. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBobrv-Hs9U I was able to replicate it but the problem is if you go near the main hitbox of the tank you just get crushed. The only way this could be useful would be running up to the tank, get on as fast as you can and then wait till the tank goes near a wall and drop into the wall and skip the fight.

The game is finally broken. Patience pays off. :) Congrats to my best friend Derrick (Magnum66 for the find) This is now known as the "Agent Tomashi Glitch" so please refer to it as so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Spoff2m_BAQ

Update. As said before, you can't pickup the Stinger. However, you can use it if you are able to glitch past the Hind and beat Wolf 2. I tested with walk through walls. An OoB at the Hind fight to skip it but in order to get the life trigger you must beat it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-5rs3V51mo Can anyone who knows anything about RAM address or relevant stuff find out a way to enable the Stinger pickup earlier? Or knows exactly what causes the pickup? The plan now is to OoB at the Comm Tower B area but nothing has a vent or any walkable on objects.

Is it possible to OoB where the stairs are broken, inside the tower? Just a random idea.

It's not fair... Finding an awesome glitch and not being able to find a way to use it's full potential. But there must be a way, arrg! Maybe a combination with another (minor or not) glitch.

So Magnum66 here and I finally decided to Join this forum. The last few weeks have been exciting with the development of MGS1 and finding all these new glitches. From the start I really hoped there was an OOB glitch we could find, and here we are now with multiple. The torture OOB was a big one though and so happy that I found it. You can imagine our frustration though when now we can't pick up the stinger and use it, so it's useless for an actual run. At the moment though me and Greg are trying to find another glitch in comm tower B and fall through the floor down to Wolf 2 fight. If we can do this, then the game is 100% completable thereafter. Only problem is nothing looks glitchable, but we are trying. In my opinion the elevator itself and the boxes near it are the best bet. There is a point where you can get Snake's legs just enough under the boxes where he can't stand up like in the torture OOB glitch and many other glitches we can do now using the vents. But looking up in FPV, letting go, and pressing X doesn't work. I think it's because Snake is JUST not under the object far enough. Maybe 1-2 more inches and it would work cause Snake's hitbox to stand up in the process THROUGH the box, colliding into it and causing the glitch or possible OOB. I've tried to go in as far as you possibly can and timing it JUST right, but nothing yet. Greg also thinks if we can blow ourselves in the elevator just enough we can fall down through. He tested with gameshark codes and walk through walls at that area on stream and you only need to go into the elevator literally 2 steps and you fall through and guard fight starts in the elevator. If anyone wants to test for us and help the cause to completely break this game, we would appreciate it. Any ideas are welcome really. For now though at least one of these glitches is now useful in a speedrun as you can see here in my following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tujnSvFdDio Description: Approximately 52 seconds faster than the old non glitch way. We now don't have to call Meryl at all and mash through the ridiculously long codec scene, nor do we have to wait for the 2nd codec or for her to open the door and dodge the sensors. Which brings me to my next question, do you think you'll be doing another TAS now then theenglishman? You could possibly go for sub 1:30 now. From what I know, in your run the following can be improved: 1. Use new timesaver at dock and knock on wall to lure guard from elevator and get on it 1-2 seconds faster. 2. Skip stuns at heliport, don't need them. 3. Take the right path in nuke building 1st floor instead of left after the first time through. Slade does it and turns out it is indeed faster. 4. The cargo elevator before Raven, that you do the guard fight at, you don't have to wait for it to come up like you do in your run. As soon as you leave blast furnace into cargo elevator, exit back to blast furnace, then go back in and the elevator will already be up by then. It's much faster than simply waiting. and now the improvements possible with the new glitches: 1. The cave OOB glitch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMregpWBDhI&feature=plcp Atm I'm not 100% sure you NEED the box to slip through the wall OOB, may just need to run in at the right angle like the blast furnace OOB I found awhile back. If you use this glitch in the TAS, you can save time running through entire cave and then crawling through the long crawlspace at the end. Also I haven't fully tested yet but it may also be possible to skip the Meryl cutscene where she asks "I thought you were good with dogs?" I haven't found the right position to skip this scene yet, but the MGS1 runner Slade thinks he has. So that would save even more time OOB'ing right to the Wolf door and not having to watch the scene. Only catch might have to be getting the box, but you can quickly go inside the office on the left and get it before Mantis. 2. The hind OOB glitch Greg posted earlier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-5rs3V51mo&feature=youtu.be If we defeat the Hind the second it's lifebar is simply gone and the elevator is fixed by Otacon, then we can also save time with this glitch. We would get the hind down to the last 2-3 hits, then glitch onto the pole like in that video. Get in a shot every few seconds so you finish the Hind off just when you are close to the building. Take away the last of the Hind's lifebar, then run back inside the building with the glitch and go down the ladder. Hopefully the game will take it as us beating the hind and we don't have to wait for the whole final scene with Liquid blowing up the tower roof, him crashing, the life upgrade, and then the Otacon codec. This could potentially save about... 30 seconds? 3. Finally using the new glitch found by me to OOB to the torture room, it can be used on any vent in the game, allowing time to be saved in the video I posted earlier. After you beat Ocelot, you just have to go back to 1st floor, glitch outside vent and OOB, then run to the load point of canyon. If done flawlessly, this could save about 52-54 seconds. Thanks for reading, and let me know your thoughts. :)

Well guys, for those on here who actually care, tomorrow is the last day of trying to get past this problem with the stinger. Me and Greg have been trying for over 2 weeks or so now to fix the issue with the torture OOB not allowing us to pick up the stinger, and so far nothing. We found a ton of small stuff here and there, but nothing to actually let us use the stinger, skip the hind entirely, or glitch past comm tower to wolf 2 fight. We've exhausted all ideas and it seems pretty hopeless now. Tomorrow is it for us and just posting this in case someone can think of any final ideas. The main issue is not getting the life upgrade from the wolf 1 fight because of the torture OOB. So the result of that is not being able to use the stinger. We go to pick it up but it's red and shows up in our weapons as red and 0/0 ammo. Gonna be streaming final attempts to glitch past comm tower or figure out anything possible tomorrow on my stream here: http://twitch.tv/exisidis2 Wish us luck or help in ANY way possible and give ANY ideas you can. Thanks.

Too bad you can't do a RAM watch to see what flag (I would assume) is being set to say, "Player did X" which in turn gives you the stinger. Does a Gameshark allow you to grab/use the stinger early? If so, why? What does it do that you are unable to do due to the OOB?

We know exactly what is the flag and preventing us from getting the stinger, it's the wolf 1 life upgrade you get when we beat her. But we don't get it since we skip that fight with the new OOB. And no, even gameshark doesn't help. Only thing that fixes it is if we can glitch past comm tower like I said and fight wolf 2. Cause after her you get life upgrade again and it adds on wolf 1 life and THEN lets you use stinger. (tested on gameshark and it 100% works)

Well it's over, no hope left really. Nothing at all looks glitchable in comm tower. Oh well.

I suppose you also tried to find a way to destroy the Hind without the Stinger. (seems impossible to me, but maybe if grenades can hit it when it's low, I really can't find another idea)

Tried that for hours yeah, nothing works sadly. Did hind oob glitch and got high on pole in level and fired nikita missiles RIGHT to the hind, but it just flies over them and won't hit him. :(

This is just a thought, perhaps I'm mistaken, but you've been trying out all these things in real-time. Maybe there's the potential to find out more by using TAS tools to do the glitch searching. Possibly there are ways to OOB yourself out of the Comm Tower with extreme, frame-precise accuracy. Maybe it's somehow possible to get the Stinger to -1/0 ammo (by firing another weapon and switching to it with frame precise accuracy), in order to "activate" it, in case the game checks whether the current ammo equals 0. edit:

We don't really know how to TAS but I have been using save states extensively. Getting as close to a door, steps, box as possible and trying stuff. If it was gonna work with what we know about crawl glitching, it would have worked already. I talked to a very talented coder of the game called RushSnake yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/user/RushSnakeRS Even he confirmed the earlier suspicions that it is life bar related to Wolf and the only real hope is to potentially damage boost yourself at the bottom rubble part using c4 or grenades but that has been tried for so many hours, I lost count. I like your last idea with firing another weapon. I don't have time to test it and I doubt anyone else will. We're kicking a dead horse here. As said previously I used walk through walls but I hate it. Going up the comm tower stairs without save states is near impossible. I prefer using Level 10 card to simulate it. Well, technically you've been TASing all along if you've been using save states. :) I was thinking that perhaps using frame advance to play through certain key sequences very slowly might help, but the probability of finding something is admittedly low. Had some problems getting psxjin to work earlier (complaining about not being able to find dbgeng.dll, for some reason) but as soon as I'm able to I'll give the ammo thing a try, although it's a loooong shot. :)

psxjin has given me no errors when running, weird. I am using psxjinv2.0.2.zip but never did more than just run the game. A bit too complex for me to understand.

I just tried the ammo trick and it didn't work, with the Socom at least. I didn't find a way to open the weapon menu at the right time (with frame advance): too late and Snake fires and the Socom loses a bullet before entering the menu, and too early and it doesn't fire at all (and switching to another weapon does nothing). Maybe with the Famas... Or trying harder / with weird circumstances.

It's not ever yet, Snake! We have a potential Nikita missile electrified floor and Gray Fox skip! Okay the back story. The stinger is looking impossible. So I decided to try walk through walls at different areas. I noticed that you could trigger the Meryll going to Mantis scene in the bathroom but you must satisfy what seems to be these conditions. 1. You must open the main hall door yourself for the cut scene trigger to load on the map. (guards going to toilet won't work but it shows the graphics) 2. You must pass through the girls bathroom door or at least be standing inside it. 3. Go to the usual place to activate the cut scene. I got this to work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtbXuwzgCoE The only thing stopping us is that you actually can't load the door in the corridor as you can't get back inside the map and only way to is walking to the commander room which is no door loading obviously and from there you can get inside the map but moment you use the card key, you get stuck in bounds. :( Get your thinking caps on!

I'm not sure to understand exactly where Snake is stuck, so I'll recap: -you can get in the bathroom and trigger the scene where Meryl complains for an hour and you get the Famas -once it's over, are you still out of bounds? If not (or if you can go back "in bounds"), you don't have the card to go to the commander's room? (and I don't remember if Meryl prevents you from going back where you did the OoB trick) Without knowing exactly what is blocking Snake, I'll still throw ideas anyway ^^ Did you try killing Meryl or yourself to see if using "continue" changes something? (killing Meryl is more fun) Maybe if you knock her down and drag her to the door... If the door doesn't have a "loading zone" for some reason, maybe it can be fixed by going to where Otacon is (but I don't know if it's possible and if it works, I don't think you are allowed to take the elevator after the cutscene). For other ideas, if nothing works, during the Gray Fox fight, I think you can go out of bounds to see what you can do from here. Is it possible in the battle vs Raven in the tank, too?

No, the problem is we can't trigger the cut scene. If you trigger it, then everything is fine. This may help for you to understand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV3W2p1jwvI I thought I had it there. I maybe do but I can't replicate it from the save I used in the video so it must be near frame precision unless I am overlooking something. The first time I load, as you can see I have no walk through walls. I reload and unequip all items and card, I throw the guard and then I am able to like walk through the turns of the walls as if walk through walls got activated halfway in. Here is my save for pSX in video if you want to try yourself: http://www.mediafire.com/?b3dv525x7uuhdvl

Hum, so it's possible... Either you had a lot of luck or it has something to do with the room displayed, as we can see it's all dark until the door is opened. Notice that on the 2nd try, the door stays opened (because of the guard), and you moved a little more down to get him. Maybe these things factor in the result, maybe not. Now I'm even wondering if the OoB glitch is necessary to open that door ^^ The advice I'd give you is to try using some more TAS tools to help you with it. For example, start recording and try and try again until you can do it again, then the success will be recorded and you'll have the possibility to analyse exactly what you did (watching snake's position all the way with ram watch and frame by frame in frame advance, along with which buttons you pressed and when). What emulator are you using? I only managed to make the game work properly with PSXjin (but the life bar was missing...).

The emulator is just normal pSX 1.13: http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/ Also I think I know why that worked. I had walk through walls on and walk through walls triggered when I went to the card door with guard as after the Meryll cut scene, I could walk OoB but not before. It might still be doable without walk through walls if you get it frame perfect where the guard can load the door and keep you out of bounds but still be enough to trigger the cut scene.
