very interesting bug. I never saw it coming really lol. is there any way this could be done on console using that one guy's (I totally forget his name, I'm sorry) robot that reads the inputs? or is there too much risk of corrupting the cart to do so?

The cart won't suffer at all. But note that Battletoads are almost impossible to sync perfectly because of inaccurate emulation. Jumping into a hole definitely works though. But the result is that complex you can't be sure. I'd predict desync on the way TO the hole. If not, then the resulting effects would be totally different anyway.

It would sync maybe for the first ~30 secs with already different memory values.

How's it going here? Is there a file you guys want to offer to replace the submission with?

Zlomus was silent for 2 weeks in my ICQ, so I guess he's currently satisfied with this one, unless he succeeds in the Reset glitches (which isn't going to happen soon, if at all possible). The movie I linked doesn't have additional frame, so here's the fixed movie: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/1802319023889578 EDIT: As MESHUGGAH significantly improved the movie and his input was added to the final one, I think he also must be considered a co-author, despite he doesn't claim it.

Just wanted to say that this is quite an impressive run. Funny to see the main characters get a sick leave and consequently win the game.

Last message to me from Zlomus was from 1.10.2012. Also, he isn't working on bug submitted here, once he gave that link, he started investigating the Reset bug (which was very unlikely to reproduce really, due to code specifics). I'll write him on YT, but I guess he was meaning the movie I linked, as it was fixed by me to contain 1 more frame. And I keep suggesting adding MESHUGGAH. I'll ask him about that too.

I just tried playing back both edited versions (Fceux 2.1.4a):
  • My version has game over and then the end screen (valid)
  • Feos' version seemingly freezes up.[1]
[1] I waited 8 minutes to see if it unfreezes. No luck.

Try 2.1.6 (where it was done). Works perfectly for me.

Ugh, it's probably better to publish the longer version for now, and submit the new version (with MESHUGGAH as co-author) laterrrrr... that is, when the new FCEUX is released.

Fine, I proposes to restore the previous topic, or to replace it on this one: https://feos-tas.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/DJ-stuff/Movies/bt_improve_game_over_ends-compact.fm3 If the official version will comes out. I will create a new topic.

I'm a bit confused at to what we're doing here. Several versions suggested don't work on an official release. AnS said 2.1.6 will take a while. Some of the versions suggested also have a broken rerecord count. As I said previously, I will not be accepting a version which doesn't run on an official emulator.

TheZlomuS, please confirm if I'm right that this situation should be handled like this: 1. Replace the submission file with this file (http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/2034290379878874) which is made from the aforementioned movie by TheZlomuS. It syncs with old versions and makes the final screen appear faster than currently submitted file (although still showing the GAME OVER). 2. Restore original list of the movie authors to "DJtZ & DyLaX" (TheZlomuS & DyLaX). 3. Then you can accept and publish it. 4. Next month, when the FCEUX 2.1.6 (in fact 2.2.0, because seriously) is released, TheZlomuS will make a submission with this file (http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/1802319023889578), including MESHUGGAH as a co-author.

The rerecord counter doesn't apply in this case anyway, because most of work is done by lua bots.

AnS: Thanks for helping out. I eagerly await to hear from the authors for their comments.

I've reduced the "pre-glitch" part by 1 frame by better maneuvering with the jet, demo is here. Of course I will try to reduce the glitch part again. edit: in the terms of reaching the ending credits faster edit: another 4 frame improvement for better manipulating the game over/end game, demo is here.

This needs investigation! I could call this exact kind of game over pretty fast, but it never resulted in game end.

Using tas-editor I sync them perfectly. #2076832347595676 btoads_shortestinput.fm2 (last link above your post) gets a game over and shows the glitchy plane and ending credits. edit: or maybe I misunderstood your post?

AFAIK, checking in tas-editor is not a valid way to test. However, that movie syncs in FCEUX 2.1.4a for me, ending in the same ending screen as previous runs of this type, so it is valid. (Edit: No, I didn't add a frame to compensate for that FCEUX bug or anything).

He means that he used TAS Editor for quick resyncing.

I improved again, overally now with 22 frames. And I have no idea how, but it's syncs for me without opening TASeditor. Could anyone verify this? http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/2221654626944688 edit: the movie is still improvable but close to be perfect edit2: thanks Ilari. This means that it's possible to sync this TAS on official release, and I'm keep finding new improvements, so I think it would be better to reject it instead of replacing the movie file. Of course I'm just a co-author so this is just my opinion.

I can verify sync, FCEUX 2.1.4a.
