It's really sad that we are so close to the glitch but can't use it yet. in any case, I'm switching to BizHawk and maybe the glitch decide to cooperate now... here's the test up to Snake Pit, made on Snes9x 1.51: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/1726431628576403

Oh gosh, I recognize that style! >_> Overall it looks really awesome, except that I missed flying on the higherst speed all around the screen in level 2 and in the jet race. Try adding more speedy fooling around.

Thank you feos, I'll try to implement that on v2, when I noticed you can "run" on stage 2 it was already too late. I'm not going to lie to you; I borrowed the NES' run style a little bit, but I'm also trying to make "The Silliest Run of 2012" :)

Haha silliest run of 2012 is a great category. You better hope that feos doesn't do the Battletoads & Double Dragon playaround in 2012 then, because that is going to be incredible. :P I'm sad the glitch doesn't work for you, either. :( It'd be so nice to skip that level because it is SO HORRIBLE. Haha. Oh well. I'll have to watch your WIP at some point in the near future.

I hope so 'cause I'm strongly thinking about finishing this run on Snes9x and start a fresh run of Battletoads & Double Dragon on BizHawk, yeah, I'm that much unsteady...

What platform? What goal? For NES, BH doesn't emulate that game ideally because of not perfect implementation of mapper 7. If SNES, the runs won't be comparable with the NES one, because of no laggy samples. Also, the NES game was original.

SNES, 2 Players, as fast as my free time allows me to dedicate myself to the run. and by the by, I love to watch NES runs, really, but I only play SNES games, maybe because I never owned a real NES? I do not know, I never owned a Genesis also, so that may be it :)

Let me know if you start a fresh BtDD (SNES) run! There were a lot of new tricks found somewhat recently (maybe last year?). I haven't seen the current TAS in awhile but they might be of some use.

Then again, how would a judge compare the time at all? If you TAS it on SNES using 90% of tricks, even 100% of tricks woudn't be faster on NES! Because EVERY final blow has ~8 frames of lag on NES.

I'd say that this is a good enough reason to use the SNES version, but be faster is not always warranty that a run will obsolete another. I wish that the two runs could coexist, not eliminate one another, but that did not happened with the previous run made on the SNES...

The Snake Pit is taking forever to complete, but if you could PM me with the tricks, it would help me a lot with the planning.

They can't co-exist due to equal engine and gameplay (I didn't check if there are any differences). Though, after porting, the game lost so many effects and features, that I can't stand it at all. Even the 7-bit samples - it ROCKS thanks to those lag delays! The whole thing looks and sounds brutal and cool, while both ports look just like a soap. Fie!

That's a real shame that the NES is so superior to the SNES versiom :( But it's early to say something based only on assumptions, I'll start a testrun as soon as I finish the BTinBM, or even before, as it's taking longer than I thought, so we can compare both versions more in depth.

Then make sure to post all the progress, that'd allow to compare, as I'm familiar with almost all aspects you may meet, and I'll report if the game is missing some speedwise things or having new ones. I'd expect the physics to be basically the same, but who knows.

Don't worry, I will :) I love to post wips, but I was losing it due to people not asking for them or even not commenting whenever I released a new wip, so I thought it was kinda useless to keep posting them.

That would never happen with any toads wip or info I see hehe.

So, that's it; the BTinBM is officially on hold in favor of BTandDD testrun. There will be two holidays this week here where I live and I will have plenty of time to work on the run.

I'm a bit lost here. Are you comparing NES vs SNES Battletoads & Double Dragon? The two cannot possibly be compared. They are entirely different. Basically none of the tricks in the NES version work in the SNES version, and the SNES version has its own set of tricks. The SNES version just plays faster overall. I have spent a lot of time playing both versions. There is no reason that TASes of both versions cannot exist (and they already do). If I misinterpreted what you two are discussing, I apologize. ^_^ Edit: The biggest difference between the two is that the SNES version lacks the dash jump that is in the NES version. Well, you can dash jump in the SNES version, but it can only be done by getting hit/dying while dashing and then holding the direction you were running + the jump button as you recover/respawn.

They don't. My run obsoleted the SNES one. I didn't know about any differences in the engine btw. I probably must test it.

Your run obsoleted that one?! :O That should not happen. They are very different games.

Mine was even faster, haha.

Oh, oh, the testrun will be delayed a few days :( when I got home that day, I was making a last save state to put Battlemaniacs on hold when the solution to Snake Pit hit me like a brick in the head! Well, when I realized I was fighting the Dark Queen... so, I'm so close to finish the run that I can't stop right now, sorry. There's still one holiday coming, and I'm sure I can start working on the testrun then. anyway, the Snake Pit will not have the glitch to finish the stage on the right side, but a faster solution instead; a punch on Rash's face and he is on the platform with the stage's exit :)

Yes, it must be done with 2 players. I finished the run, and it will be submitted in an instant! edit; typos...

It's on the front page and, as you must have guessed, I've spent the other holiday working on Battlemaniacs... I'm seeing the test of BT&DD increasingly far from being ready and so I'm giving up the idea to run this game for now, sorry.
