ok so im pretty noob. never TASed before. i know that everyone recommends an easy game to tas with to start off but i only want to do this for one game to help me reclaim my World record....legitimately. what i need -To make a TASvideo of a wii sports resort island flyover run achieving 70 i points -Need to be able to use a nintendo brand wiimotion plus controller -if at all possible i would like a timer with miliseconds and not just the minute and second counter. id rely on counting frames but there are frames between crashing and spawning that do not count toward total time. its hard to tell EXACTLY when the timer starts and stops. if this is just not in the cards thats fine but didnt hurt to ask. i dont know if i should use dolphin or any other TAS program for this project. i dont have the greatest computer but im crossing my fingers it can get the job done. what is EVERYTHING i may need and what info do i need to provide to get those answers. keep in mind im not really planning on spending more than a few bucks to upgrade or buy stuff i need. my specs processor: Genuine Intel(R)CPU T2060 @ 1.60 GHz 1.60GHz installed memory(RAM): 2.00 GB Windows 7 Professional

short answer: it's not possible. long answer: merge http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/list?name=MotionPlus , http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/list?name=more-save-fixes and http://code.google.com/r/otu0001-desync-fix/source/list together, get an entirely new pc (dolphin won't run faster than a few fps on your laptop), with no less than a 2500k cpu (you could get a reasonable build for around $500, which you'd need to buy piece by piece, and assemble yourself), and get ready for massive headaches when shit doesn't work the way you want it to. Sorry.

It's accually possible. But Dolphin might crash a lot. And it don't have to run at full-speed for TASing.

In theory, yes. But realistically, using only what he has available to him right now, he could spend 10 years on it nonnstop, and still not finish it.

Crashes aren't really a problem. More significant problems include no m+ emulation and/or constant desyncs with unstable save states.

No, but it's generally a waste of time if you can't even get half speed. Especially if you have to constantly play back from the start to check for desyncs.

Would a game Like Wii sports lend its self to an interesting TAS?

I don't think the first one would, because it would just be the same perfect hit, strike, or punch over and over, and would get repetitive. Wii Sports Resort could make an interesting TAS, since some of the games are more about getting the highest score or, for example, kayaking the farthest distance you can.

well this sux :( looks like ill have to reclaim my WR the old fashioned way. Painful hours of determination, screaming, yelling, throwing conrollers/consoles/fecal matter, precise execution, repition....more fecal matter. If anybody else would be interested in TASing this video thatd be awesome. i can share with you the current WR holders route with my own additions (only me and the TASer will know this knowledge). i just need to cut 6 seconds of time from an already near perfect 5 minute run. all i ask is that the TASer allow me to reclaim my record legit before he attempts it without the TAS. Anybody interested?

youngj- I "HELD" the world record for most i points collected in one 5 minute run on island flyover with 68 i points collected. My opponent buch1910 achieved 69 about 3 months ago. i have calculated that i need exactly 6 seconds to achieve 70.

It would be known as an official "TAS World Record". :P That's why this site exist, right? To document tool-assisted world records?

Yes i realize that a tas run is not official. I just want to create one just to see if 70 is possible and if so how much room for error is there. Plus i can study the execution for precise timing when it plays in normal speed once i decide to attempt it legit (without the TAS)

It's doable, it would just require a lot of tiring effort, like rog said.

How are wiimotion plus inputs entered in frame by frame anyways? Its not exactly as simple as a button push. Can anyone post a screenshot of what it looks like? Also would it be more plausible to put dolphin on homebrew (if even possible)

With buttons and/or mouse input. There's no way of precisely entering exact values for each input, other than manually editing the .dtm.

What does this even mean...?

I think (he/she) means writing a program for the wii that would be able to freeze the wii and allow for frame advance. That way you wouldn't need any finicky emulation - it would Just Work. I don't know if such a program can be written though.

It is .dtm. That's the format Dolphin uses to record the button presses (and wiimote motions). Such files can be edited (using hex editor) to alter the input sent to the game.
