The reason for the different routes is Triforce Charts and Rupees. One chart takes 4 extra charts to get. There are less rupees in certain place on J. The only place on the top of my head is skipping the barrier cutscene on J, which you can't on U.
So...the (U) version is faster? Then why does it seem that the TAS will be in the (J) version?
It was going to be slightly modified to suit the (J) version, but the discovery of dry storage is going to require large route modifications anyway.

Kirkq wasn't aware of all the differences, so the route turned out being a mix of U and J. The TAS is going to be in J because of the text difference. I believe that it will be more entertaining with faster text instead of having to wait through it. Also, a large amount of the audience is Japanese (just compare the views on YouTube to the views on niconico). Also, the J version makes the route more interesting to me. Overall, it just seems more entertaining than U.

:P I've read through the differences, and it seems (J) is (somewhat) harder. In my opinion, that's a better reason to write in the submission text than because of text differences (which will cause another needless flame war).

So is using J actually slower than a run on U would be?

J is faster because the text is sooo much faster.

If you don't count text, yes. I'm not sure why you wouldn't though. J has less standing around, and more actions: win-win.

4. The Japanese version has some rupee locations missing. Notably the "101 rupee trick" does not work because...they're not there. There are also not any pots around some of the triforce chart locations (e.g. islet of steel).
This loses maybe 2 minutes due to different rupee collection routes.
5. Triforce chart 5 is not what is pulled up after sinking the golden ship, instead treasure chart 16 is obtained and it goes through a chain of charts to get the triforce chart itself (it goes 16 (shark island) to 28 (needle rock) to 3 (eastern fairy island) to 40 (headstone) where TC5 is gotten).
This loses probably about 4 minutes due to extra superswimming. It also changes the order in which we do things towards the end of the game pretty substantially.
6. The cutscene for cutting down the barrier happens automatically on Japanese, on English it needs to be manually started by swinging the sword. (I played English for the first time in a while and ran straight into the barrier lol)
Once you can have all the triforce shards and have beaten both temples on (J), the barrier cutscene can be skipped. This saves about 15-20 seconds. The (J) version is a little over 5 minutes slower in non-cutscene time. The (J) version is probably 12-15 minutes faster in cutscene time. (It is unclear how many cutscenes we can skip with storage right now.) Overall the run would be about 7-10 minutes faster. The major route difference is the aforementioned triforce chart.

Dont know if anyone knows about it, i tried to look out for something at the barrier jumped backwards and while jumping backwards i pulled out the wind waker and tetra pushed me a little behind the barrier, i couldnt walk out though, dont know if this is helpful at all. i got no damage but i couldnt walk past the barrier either. edit; finally got a superswimming route :p

Link to video Figure I should post this. IL TAS. Not the route for the TAS. No audio and not HD cuz the audio desyncs and I don't feel like getting HD on a video that I'm gonna reupload soon.

That looks really cool. What is the dry storage for? Is that still coming up? Don't see how that would have helped with the hover...

It's to store the main area cutscene (to skip it).

wow im in love with abahbob after seeing DRC
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

Ahahbob, did you also store the mail bag cutscene or did you use glitches thign to get around it?

I'm just using a save I had outside of DRC, this isn't part of the actual TAS. I'll skip the delivery bag. No need to use storage on it.

Ah k. It's relatively early in the run, so I thought it was part of the TAS. Now you have to do that hover another time. XD

Yeah, I'm restarting the run anyways. I'm thinking of doing a Master Sword TAS, but I just can't get the motivation to start right now, because it would all be my own route.

This might sound incredibly ignorant as I've never done or attempted TAS before, but why can't you just do the current non-TAS route that people do, but just TAS that? It might not have any of the tricks that a TAS would do, but at least it's something.
