I actually make it a point to just call it FFIII. I have met way too many people that insist on calling it FFVI for the wrong reason (because they insist that anything from Japan is automatically better and more correct than anything else) than for the right reasons (to prevent general confusion). Also it's sort of force of habit. I actually have no idea what the real Final Fantasy III is like, having never played III, IV, or V. Didn't they only translate them relatively recently?

FF3 got a rerelease on the DS, which was translated. FF5 got a rerelease on the GBA, also translated. 4, of course, has been available in various incarnations for ages; it's Square's favorite Final Fantasy to rerelease in different forms. 3 is notable for introducing the jobs system; 5 refined it. 4 is mostly notable for having a nontrivial plot.
